☆、(8 Fresh Coins) The Sigh of the Rose (3) (Alternate Universe, OOC Side Story - Warning!)
General Adam Cozmo anxiously awaited news from the front lines in his tent. They had been encamped there for three months, yet the city remained unconquered. The revolutionary army, nearly ten years old since its founding, had grown from a small armed force into a "red storm" sweeping across Fares. Their goal was to overthrow the Fares royal family, end the misery under tyranny, and bring a new life to the people of Fares. Now, they had finally arrived at the gates of Quran and begun the siege.
Gulan City was the economic center of the Fares Empire. Once they captured Gulan, it would be tantamount to cutting off Fares' lifeline, thus securing a decisive victory. However, in this crucial battle, Duke Soya, the "Guardian of the Empire" stationed in Gulan City, became the revolutionary army's nightmare. He repeatedly defeated the revolutionary army's attacks, keeping them firmly outside the city and holding onto the empire's last hope.
Of course, the revolutionary army's success wasn't solely due to its powerful military force, but also to its most astute strategist. Through extensive investigations by their spies, they finally found a breakthrough. Under the guidance of their strategist Calvin, they launched a secret military operation. While Duke Sawyer was exceptionally brave, his eldest son, Leonard, was a hopeless scoundrel—arrogant, foolish, and lecherous. The "honey trap," though old-fashioned, had proven effective time and again. The woman they sent had sent exciting news yesterday: Sawyer would be visiting his deceased wife's grave today with several trusted men, presenting the perfect opportunity for a surprise attack.
Their assault team had been gone for most of the day, and if no news came back by now, it would mean the operation had failed. To maximize the chances of success, every member of the team was an elite among elites; if they were all wiped out, it would undoubtedly be a significant blow to them. General Kozmo, who had been holding back all day, finally couldn't sit still any longer and began pacing back and forth in his tent, his handsome face filled with anxiety.
"Report—" A loud shout rang out, and a messenger rushed in. "Reporting to the general, Soya is seriously injured and on the verge of death. Of the 33 men in the assault team, 3 remain. Operation successful!"
General Kozmo whirled around, his eyes gleaming. "Sawya seriously injured?! Good! Good! Good! Excellent!" But as soon as he finished speaking, he realized another problem: only 3 of the 33-man assault team remained—a significant loss. His face darkened, and he slowly walked back to the table and sat down.
After a long pause, the general finally raised his head slowly: "Pass on my order, begin the attack on the city immediately!"
"Yes, General!" the messenger shouted, then quickly retreated.
Kozmo looked at the heavy curtains closing again, his gaze complex.
"Adam... are you sad?" Calvin stood beside the general, leaned over the table, and whispered in his ear.
A warm breath enveloped his entire cheek, and color slowly returned to Kozmo's face. Such sacrifices were common in war; although the cost was heavy, the severe damage to Soya meant that capturing Gulan was imminent—it was already a great victory. Moreover, once Gulan was truly conquered, the number of fallen soldiers would only increase. He knew he shouldn't dwell on it, but he couldn't help himself.
“Your biggest weakness is that you’re too soft-hearted,” Calvin sighed. “As a commander, it’s certainly a good thing to be considerate of your subordinates, but in the end, you’re only making things difficult for yourself.”
Kozmo turned his head away from his face, pursing his lips and remaining silent.
“Think about it, we will soon take over Gulan City. Isn’t that what those soldiers sacrificed their lives for?” Calvin gently turned his face with one hand, looked straight into his eyes, and spoke in such a soft voice that it seemed to exude the scent of calming herbs, miraculously soothing the general’s emotions.
“I understand,” Cozmo sighed softly. “Thank you.”
“If you really want to thank me…” Calvin said, then suddenly paused, a glint of light flashing in his eyes.
The other person's expression suddenly turned dangerous. Knowing him well, Kozmo's heart skipped a beat. Before he could react, the other person took his breath away.
At first, it was tender and lingering, but then it gradually became urgent and passionate. Cozmo, who clearly sensed the change, realized something was wrong, pushed the other person away forcefully, glanced guiltily at the tent curtain, and whispered, "That's enough, this is enough."
"Adam, how long have we been here?" Calvin squinted, his voice becoming even softer.
“…Three months.” Kozmo knew what he meant. Since the start of the attack on Gulan City, because the war had been so intense, they hadn’t had the “lovemaking” that lovers usually do. Now they could finally relax a little… Calvin definitely wanted to do something.
To be honest, he was getting a little aroused after not having sex for so long, but he chose to refuse due to other considerations. Since they confirmed their relationship, Calvin had shown a strong desire that was completely incongruous with what a magician would do. Every time they had sex, the result was that he, the commander, had to "fall ill" for a few days, refusing all outings and having Calvin relay military orders on his behalf.
Over time, several trusted confidants who had observed the relationship between them understood what had happened when they saw the commander "fall ill," which forced Kozmo to endure meaningful glances for quite some time.
