Lin Qingtong immediately understood; it turned out this person was the village chief's wife, no wonder she was so arrogant.
She didn't speak, but waited for the village chief to say the next thing.
This person is clearly a wolf in sheep's clothing; there must be something else going on.
As expected, Gao Da turned around and scolded the curly-haired woman, then sighed and apologized to Lin Qingtong.
"I'm so sorry, young lady. My wife was being unreasonable and offended you. I heard you're here to collect a debt. What's the invoice and the amount? We'll do whatever it takes to pay you back, no matter what."
Lin Qingtong glanced at Luo Susu beside her, and instantly understood. She handed the photocopied IOU to Gao Da.
"This is a photocopy of the IOU; your wife snatched the original and tore it up."
Gao Da took the IOU, bowed and smiled.
"I'm so sorry, a photocopy is enough. I'll have someone go home and raise the money for you right now."
He turned to instruct the boy beside him, then looked at Lin Qingtong again, his eyes pleading.
"You see, we've already changed our attitude and are planning to withdraw the money to return it to you. That house was built with our hard-earned savings. If things get out of hand, it won't look good for any of us, will it?"
"If you don't mind, I'd like to treat you to a simple home-cooked meal tonight."
After he finished speaking, a glint of light flashed in his eyes. He had already said all that, so the other party would surely agree to the arrangement.
Unexpectedly, Lin Qingtong glanced at Gao Da indifferently.
"As far as I know, a highway is going to be built next to your village, so there will be demolition compensation, right?"
Gao Da was stunned for a moment, not understanding why Lin Qingtong suddenly brought up this matter.

In that instant, the surrounding villagers became enraged, brandishing their weapons and shouting in Lin Qingtong's direction.
"Get out of our village! You're not welcome here. You're bullying us! Get out now!"
Startled by the roars, Luo Susu trembled and grabbed Lin Qingtong's arm to warn her.
"Sister Qingtong, let's go first, and come back later."
Lin Qingtong calmly observed the angry crowd before her, showing no sign of panic.
"We can begin."
With a flick of her slender fingers, several bodyguards pushed a huge screen off a car behind her.
A scene was playing prominently on the screen.
It must have been the curly-haired woman's perspective; she was opening a box under the bed in the room, inside which were gleaming gold bars and cash.
The woman, cursing and swearing, took tens of thousands of yuan in cash. In her anger, she accidentally knocked several documents to the ground.
"What bad luck! Even a stupid document is messing with me."
As she picked up the document, the screen paused and zoomed in on the screenshot.
The villagers squinted to examine it closely, and when they saw it clearly, they couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
"Wait a minute, isn't this my family's compensation document? Why is the amount different? Wasn't it supposed to be 600 yuan per square meter? How come it's 6,000?!"
"And mine too, my God, so much money, is it all in the village chief's house?"
As they gasped in surprise, the curly-haired woman on the screen began to complain again.
"The people in the village had said long ago not to let that girl go. Now look what happened, she's caused such a big problem. They shouldn't have given her 600 in the first place; 300 per ping would have been enough."
"They're all a bunch of country bumpkins, incredibly stupid. After spending their money to treat us to a few meals, they act like complete idiots, believing everything they say."
The woman with curly hair walked into the crowd with cash and was quite puzzled. Why did the atmosphere feel so strange?
She impatiently threw the cash at Luo Susu's feet, saying, "Take it and spend it, you bunch of country bumpkins."
Gao Da stood there, shrouded in a low-pressure atmosphere, his face gloomy and terrifying, and slapped the curly-haired woman across the face.
"Enough! Shut up."
She then turned to look at Lin Qingtong and forced herself to argue.
"Those documents are just obsolete and don't count."
"Why do you keep pressing me? Why don't we sit down and have a proper meal to discuss this?"
His eyes flickered when he looked at Lin Qingtong.
There are no leaders here now, so if I can cooperate with Lin Qingtong, things might turn around.
