By the time all this was finished, it was already past five in the morning. Lin Qingtong stood on the side of the street, exhausted.
A gentle breeze ruffled her hair as she wrapped her coat tighter around herself and looked down at the ride-hailing app on her phone.
The waiting icon keeps spinning, but I still haven't been able to hail a ride.
On the gray, dusty streets, sanitation workers were already sweeping, and everything around was desolate.
Because of staying up late, Lin Qingtong felt a little dizzy, so she simply squatted down by the roadside.
She pressed her slender fingers to her forehead, finding it difficult to breathe.
Just then, an incoming call popped up on Lin Qingtong's phone screen.
She glanced at the phone out of the corner of her eye and realized it was her mother, Su Wanjun, calling, which puzzled her.
Why are you calling me so early? Is something wrong?
She finally answered the phone, half-squatting there, holding the phone to her ear, and weakly asked a question.
"What's wrong?"
Lin Qingtong's voice was clearly off, but Su Wanjun didn't notice and just looked disappointed as she questioned her.
"Why are you bullying Jiao Rui again? She's moved out to live elsewhere. All she did was give her the computer. Why are you targeting her like this?"
“I’ve noticed that your personality has become distorted since you got married. You’ve become petty and don’t know how to be considerate of others at all.”
She immediately launched into a tirade of reproach, completely oblivious to Lin Qingtong's weakness.
Seeing that the other party did not answer her, Su Wanjun started crying again.
"Are you not even willing to talk to me anymore? What have I done to deserve this?"
“If it weren’t for giving birth to you, I wouldn’t have become like this. I didn’t get a divorce because I was thinking of you. I gave you everything good. Why can’t you be more sensible…”
On the other end of the phone, Su Wanjun cried hysterically, accusing her, and a wave of dark energy rushed towards her, suffocating her.
Lin Qingtong frowned and answered with a slightly harsher tone.
"Enough! You've become like this because of me?"
Upon hearing this, Su Wanjun cried even harder, sobbing uncontrollably and pounding the bed.
"Do I want this to happen? How can you talk to your mother like that..."
Lin Qingtong crouched there, her face almost completely covered by her hair, hiding herself in the shade of the trees.
If you're not paying attention, you won't even notice there's someone here.
At this moment, Lin Qingtong was in great pain. Why did her mother have to inflict all the suffering on her?
But her mother was her closest relative, and she was also timid. If she didn't take care of her, she would really be bullied to death by Shen Xue and the others.
For a moment, Lin Qingtong's eyes reddened, but she couldn't cry at all.
She won't cry because of this.
Suddenly, a black car sped past Lin Qingtong and then drove back.
The car door opened, and a distant and aloof figure stepped out and stood directly in front of Lin Qingtong.
"Are you so pathetic that you have to beg on the street?"
His voice was cold yet tinged with a hint of mockery.
Upon hearing this, Lin Qingtong slowly raised her eyes and looked up, meeting Shen Tinghe's gaze.
His light-colored pupils held a deathly stillness, like a pool of stagnant water that never flows.
Her eyes were tinged with a rosy hue, and her disheveled hair fell loosely on either side of her face.
Seeing this, Lin Qingtong calmly hung up the computer, concealing the deathly stillness in her eyes. She stood up, supporting herself on her knees, and spoke as if she were completely at ease.
"I'm just resting here for a bit. Besides, even if I were to beg, I would go somewhere with lots of people."
"That way you can earn more money."
The moment Lin Qingtong stood up, she felt dizzy and everything around her was spinning, and her limbs felt weak.
She lunged forward uncontrollably, and right in front of her was Shen Tinghe.
Lin Qingtong's red lips moved slightly. She originally wanted to remind Shen Tinghe, but she was too weak to say anything more.
She couldn't help but think to herself: Shen Tinghe definitely won't catch me...
After all, she had dumped him before, treating him like a gigolo.
The next second, Shen Tinghe stretched out his strong arms and steadily pulled Lin Qingtong into his embrace, his deep voice coming through his chest.
"Are you throwing yourself at me?"
The faint scent of cedar emanating from him made Lin Qingtong's breathing a little easier, and she managed to utter a weak sentence.
"I...I have low blood sugar..."
Shen Tinghe's gaze darkened. He had stayed up all night and hadn't eaten anything last night. Even the most capable person couldn't stay up all night.
So he picked Lin Qingtong up and carried her to the car.
He draped one long leg over the edge of the car door, and bent the other leg halfway so that Lin Qingtong could lean against him, half-embracing her in his arms.
Lin Qingtong had already fainted, her brows furrowed, and her small face was deathly pale.
Her beautiful body nestled in Shen Tinghe's arms, creating a stark contrast with his tall stature.
Upon seeing this, Shen Tinghe pursed his thin lips, took out a pink strawberry-flavored candy from his pocket, and fed it to Lin Qingtong.
Without even looking up, he asked the driver for a bottle of mineral water.
He twisted open the bottle of mineral water with one hand and carefully fed it to Lin Qingtong's lips.
A moment later, Lin Qingtong slowly woke up. At that moment, sunlight poured down from the edge of the sky not far away, enveloping Shen Tinghe.
She reached out to take the water, but accidentally it landed on the back of Shen Tinghe's hand.
Just then, a white car swerved past and suddenly stopped.
Jiang Hao got out of the car and straightened his suit. He had originally gone to buy breakfast for Qi Huimin early in the morning, but he saw his uncle's car parked on the side of the road.
