The cheerful music began, masking the emotions in Lin Qingtong's eyes.
She was feeling very conflicted, hesitating whether to believe William Dongfang's words while also feeling sad.
She felt as if she had hurt Shen Tinghe and wanted to apologize and explain, but she just couldn't bring herself to say it.
Lin Qingtong secretly glanced at Shen Tinghe standing there, tall and aloof, as if nothing had happened.
He probably isn't angry.
Lin Qingtong thought to herself, while selfishly wanting to just let the matter of the proposal go.
The cake was cut, and the guests, guided by the waiters, began their journey to the rooftop restaurant.
The rooftop dining area is an open-air glass restaurant, covering several thousand square meters, large enough to accommodate these people dining at the same time.
Luo Susu and Shen Tingting rushed to the top floor for dinner; they had come here specifically for a big meal.
Lin Qingtong should change into some simple clothes.
She went into the fitting room, just about to change into a white dress, when the door suddenly opened.
Before she could even see who it was, the other person turned off the lights.
In the pitch-black changing room, Lin Qingtong could only see the outline of the other person's figure, but even from just an outline, she recognized the person in front of her as Shen Tinghe.
"Shen Tinghe".
Lin Qingtong called out in a hoarse voice.
As Shen Tinghe nodded and slowly approached, he took off his suit jacket and draped it over the back of the chair next to him.
The night was pitch black, but it couldn't conceal the danger and predatory intent in his eyes.
"Shouldn't you explain this to me?"
Shen Tinghe's deep, hoarse voice came over, and Lin Qingtong turned her head to look at the scenery outside the window, her eyes flashing.
There's nothing to explain.
The next second, Shen Tinghe approached with an imposing presence.
It had a faint, pleasant fragrance, yet it filled Lin Qingtong with dread.
She hadn't seen Shen Tinghe like this in a long time.
Since moving into Wutong Manor, Shen Tinghe's attitude towards her has improved considerably.
"Is it because of the contract?"
Shen Tinghe lowered his head slightly, resting his chin on Lin Qingtong's shoulder, and asked in a low voice.
The warm breath sprayed onto her shoulders and neck, immediately sending waves of tingling sensation through her.
Lin Qingtong tried to shrink back and avoid him, but he had already wrapped his arms tightly around her, giving her no chance to escape at all.
"Don't overthink it, it's not because of the contract."
Shen Tinghe held her tightly, as if trying to embed himself into her body, and his deep, hoarse voice rang out again.
"Then give me a reason, why?"
Lin Qingtong lowered her eyes and looked ahead, finally letting out a long sigh before speaking.
“You know everything about my past with Jiang Hao. On the surface, I don’t care about those things, but I’m still afraid of getting hurt if I get involved again.”
Shen Tinghe promised, "I won't let you get hurt."
Lin Qingtong smiled gently and placed her fingers on the back of his hand.
"For adults, promises are the most elusive thing."
Shen Tinghe understood what Lin Qingtong meant, but simply turned her around so that he was facing her directly.
“I know what you’re afraid of, so I didn’t force you, but I hope you can give me a chance.”
"A chance for you to believe in marriage again."
Upon hearing his words, Lin Qingtong fell silent for a moment, unsure whether she should give Shen Tinghe this chance.
But when she looked into his deep, affectionate eyes, her heart softened, and she finally agreed.
"I can give you this chance, but not to get married now, okay?"
Lin Qingtong couldn't help but feel a little nervous, wondering what they would do if Shen Tinghe disagreed.
But in reality, Shen Tinghe's eyes flickered before he finally gave his answer.
"Okay, as long as you're with me, it's fine if we never get married."
He had barely finished speaking when he eagerly covered her up.
Warm lips, a burning body—it all seemed to burn everything around them to ashes.
