Chapter 16 Entrance Examination Begins
The first one is a purely written test.
The exam paper was divided into three parts: dictation, application, and additional questions. Edith wrote very quickly. In her previous life, she entered the Pharmacy Association through self-study. She was very good at practice, but not very good at memorizing academic terms. She basically relied on her experience to organize her answers in her own words, so she wrote freely without worrying about being suspected of her identity.
The first additional question was to interpret a spell. Edith glanced at it quickly and estimated that at least one-third of the people in the exam room could answer it, so she wrote it down with confidence. The second question was a little more difficult. Edith searched her mind and confirmed that she had not memorized a similar spell, so she reasoned on the spot and submitted a few low-level spells.
This is normal. Her research direction is potions, so her vocabulary of spells is naturally lacking. Although the one she submitted is not the standard answer, it will definitely achieve the effect required by the question.
"It's just so-so." Heda looked pale after the test, but he still straightened his chest when Edith asked him, "The difficulty is about the same as I thought. It shouldn't be a problem to get a top score."
Edith looked at Hedda suspiciously. It wasn't that she didn't believe in her ability. Although Hedda lacked practical skills, she was still very reassuring in learning written knowledge.
She was just wondering why such a test paper would make the knowledgeable Heda show such a ferocious expression.
"It's okay, just forget it after the test." She looked at the other candidates around her who were in a stable mood and did not show any pain on their faces. She determined that it was Heda's nervousness that caused the problem, so she patted her on the shoulder and comforted her: "Do well in tomorrow's practical test, which accounts for a large proportion of the score."
Although she looked calm on the surface, she felt a little uneasy in her heart. Since the written test only took up one day like in previous years, didn't it mean that the remaining five days were all practical tests?
Is it double the two days of previous years?
At the school gate.
Barney, who was walking out of the examination room behind Hedda, threw the book in his hand to the servant and turned around to meet his mother's concerned eyes.
"How did you do in the exam?" She rambled on. "Your practical application scores are pretty good. As long as you can keep your written exam scores in the middle, you'll definitely be admitted to the college. Don't be too nervous... Was the exam difficult? Was it harder than the summary exam that your tutor gave you a while ago?"
Barney's face was calm, and there was no trace of emotion in his eyes when he looked at his mother.
The mother understood: "You did a good job."
Barney said calmly: "I can't even understand the question."
......
The next day, at the practice field at Boyunis College.
This was Edith's first time officially entering this academy. Although she had communicated with the academy's instructors in her previous life, it was all within the association or at banquets, and she had never seen the original appearance of the academy.
Really big.
This was her first impression.
The Turner family's carriage was considered fast, but it still took them nearly an hour to walk from the door to the practice field. Edith looked at the building outside the window and deliberately asked, "How long does it take to get to class?"
"After you officially become a student, we will input your magic information into various teleportation points within the academy. Then you will be able to travel between various points by teleportation." The accompanying teacher smiled and explained briefly.
Hedda nodded gracefully, then avoided the teacher's eyes and cast a grateful look at Edith.
She represents the image of the Turner family outside and cannot ask too many questions, as she may appear to be ignorant. At this time, it is particularly important to have a reading partner who can ask questions on her behalf.
"Don't be too curious. You will be able to experience the specific application of the teleportation point in a moment." The accompanying teacher's words were ambiguous. Edith frowned slightly, and only understood what she meant when she arrived at the place.
In the center of the training ground, a teleportation array that could accommodate thousands of people was spread out on the ground, flashing a lavender light, and it was obvious that it consumed a lot of magic power.
The candidates who came to the scene with their families stood quietly around the magic circle, looking up at the sky facing the center of the magic circle.
The president of Beaujolais College was floating in that place.
"It seems that the person who set the questions this year is the principal. No wonder my great-grandfather couldn't get any information." Hedda opened her fan, covered her mouth, and discussed quietly with Edith.
Edith's feeling of uneasiness grew stronger and stronger.
"But the principal looks terrified." Edith narrowed her eyes. "He's shaking, as if this is completely beyond his expectations."
Hedda didn't understand what Edith said. She raised her head and looked at the headmaster's face hanging in the air.
"It is a pleasure to meet here with all of you future wizards." After everything was completely quiet, the principal spoke and used magic to spread his voice around.
"Today is the annual entrance examination for Beyounis College. Only one third of you will be able to stay, and those who stay will be assigned corresponding ratings based on the entrance examination. These ratings will come in handy in all aspects of your college life."
"Yesterday, we had a written exam. From today until the 6th, it's our practical exam time." He looked down at everyone's shocked expressions and continued to introduce, "This year, we are honored to have invited... a brand new question setter."
He took two steps back, and a shadowy figure appeared in front of him. The shadow slowly condensed and eventually formed a complete person.
"Good morning, everyone."
The man had his hands in his pockets, his black hair hanging behind his head, and he was dressed quite casually, which was out of place among the elegantly dressed nobles at the scene.
She raised her eyebrows, listened to the gasps coming from the ground, and raised her hand in a good mood.
"Although it's a bit long-winded, I'll still introduce myself. My name is Joyce Walker, the current president of the Magic Association, and the person who set the questions for your entrance exam."
Edith quickly exchanged a glance with Hedda, with uncontrollable shock in her eyes.
I knew things would change this year, but this has changed too much!
......
Before the nobles who remained at the scene could stop him, Joyce had already acted without authorization and teleported all the students to a dense forest far away from the capital.
“I know you. You say you’re afraid of accidents, but in fact you’re afraid that you won’t be able to provide timely help.” The shadow of Joyce who remained in the training ground chuckled and landed in front of the noble parents who were loudly protesting.
"Some have decorated the examination rooms in advance." She rubbed her foot lightly, and a magic circle shone from under the floor tiles.
"Some have made arrangements with teachers in advance." She walked around to an accompanying teacher and patted her on the shoulder.
"Some have asked questions in advance." Joyce suddenly stopped, raised his eyebrows and looked in a certain direction of the crowd. "I had no intention of managing it, but the quality of the association's members has been too poor in the past two years. It's time to rectify it."
"Don't worry, the exam location is safer than you think."
......
Noon, dense forest.
The place where the candidates gathered was an open space. There were no trees to block the view, and the scorching sun eroded every inch of people's skin without hindrance.
Edith was drowsy, and finally before she fell asleep, she waited for Joyce to arrive late.
"Sorry it took a little while to deal with your parents."
Joyce did not consider the ambiguity in his words at all, and lightly explained the reason for being late, and fell to the ground under the vigilant gaze of everyone.
"Don't look at me with such hatred. For the next five days, it's just you and me here." Joyce smiled and glanced ahead. The people she saw lowered their heads, not daring to look at her.
This is the current president of the Magic Association! Even though everyone has a good background, many of them rely on their ancestors' accumulation. It is difficult not to be afraid of such a high-ranking person with legitimate power.
Edith didn't feel anything, she had seen Joyce many times in her previous life, and now she just bowed her head to follow the crowd, so she didn't feel too nervous.
But a head that sways freely instead of trembling in fear still stands out.
Joyce: “….”
She controlled herself and retracted her gaze, saying calmly, "I will be the invigilator for the entire exam. Do not attempt to cheat, and please believe that I will grade you fairly and impartially."
"The exam contents will be announced now."
She waved her wand, and a strange force suddenly pulled Edith to the side. She looked up and found that she was tied up with Hedda and two other people she didn't know.
Then a small cage appeared in her hands. Edith looked through the cracks in the cage and saw a dying brown bird lying at the bottom.
"Put four people in a group. The companions will be assigned to the main family first." Joyce waved his staff again, and a cage appeared in his hand. "Each group will be assigned a sick demon-eating bird. Before sunset on the fifth day, at least two people in the group must bring healthy demon-eating birds to the waterfall in the center of the jungle, and the mission will be considered completed."
"During this period, you are not allowed to use any external props except wands. This includes drawn magic circles, scrolls with magic spells engraved on them, and all items used must be made by the team members themselves. Some props that can help you complete the task are scattered inside the examination room, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Clashes between different groups are allowed, but the use of mid-level and higher attack spells is not allowed to avoid causing serious casualties."
After Joyce finished speaking, he glanced at the people who were ready to move, and added: "I will give you a score based on your overall performance in the exam. After the exam officially begins, the teleportation array will teleport you to a random location in the dense forest. The possibility of encountering danger cannot be ruled out, so be careful to hide."
"Now, the exam begins."
Joyce is still as efficient as ever...
Before Edith had time to complain, or even get to know her new teammates, she was sucked away by a powerful suction force.
......
Deep in the jungle.
"My name is Nina, Nina Green." The girl with glasses was a little reserved. Beside her, the boy who had obviously been pampered all the time waved his hand enthusiastically: "I'm Barney, Barney Keith, I'm good at fighting, if you encounter a ferocious monster, you can let me fight."
"The second son of Viscount Keith." Heda introduced to Edith in a low voice. "The person next to him is her study partner. His father is a knight with a fiefdom, barely a nobleman."
Edith nodded understandingly.
The four people who were forced together had good luck at the beginning. They were teleported to a stream deep in the forest, where there was clean water and no difficult beasts. Not far away, there was even a package with the emblem of the Bo Yunis College. It should be the legendary first-come, first-served item.
Barney ran over and picked up the thing. When everyone opened it, they found that it was actually a simple set of medicine refining equipment.
"Does this mean that we should use potions to cure it?" Barney poked the cauldron with interest. "Oh my God, we should start by picking herbs ourselves!"
"Well, I'm good at healing. I can try to cure it with magic first. If that doesn't work, I can try potion." Nina raised her hand weakly, and with Barney's nod of permission, she pointed the wand in the direction of the cage.
A dazzling green light flashed, and the bird was still lying dying at the bottom of the cage, with no sign of improvement.
"It's useless." Edith sighed, "This is a magic-eating bird. It feeds on magic power. Except for water, fire, ice, etc. that can cause true damage, it will not react to spells that directly act on itself."
"Applying healing magic to it is like sticking a piece of cake on you. It has no effect."
"What should I do? I don't really need to make medicine!" Barney screamed, "I can't even make it even if you give me the herbs, let alone start from collecting them!"
