Chapter 9 No, no, no, I want this sword!

Chapter 9 No, no, no, I want this sword!

Edith carried her sister back to the table and let her sit and eat alone. She walked to the door to deal with "neighborhood relations".

Lynch raised his hand several times and tried to knock on the door, but put it back halfway. His arm moved up and down, looking extremely busy.

He adjusted his collar once again, cleared his throat, and felt the tense gaze from the servants behind him, and couldn't help feeling a little annoyed.

Damn it! I told you not to follow me, but why are there still people watching me?

He could only try his best to force himself to ignore the concerned gazes, forced a smile towards the door in front of him, and whispered in practice: "Go pick up the sword, I mean what I say."

After a few seconds, Lin Qi felt that this was too arrogant. He struggled for a while and spoke again: "Hello, I would like to ask you--"

"What do you want me to do?"

Edith opened the door without anyone noticing, leaned against the door frame and looked at the other person with interest.

Damn it, when did she even get to the door!

Lin Qi's smooth voice suddenly stuttered, and his eyes were erratic, but they just couldn't fall on Edith's face: "Please, please go to my father's private library to pick a sword."

After that, he raised his voice and said loudly as if to encourage himself: "I will never break my promise. This is the basic quality of being the eldest son of the Charles family!"

He just didn't want to be looked down upon by a commoner, and he wasn't deliberately trying to show off his character!

Edith tilted her head when she heard that, a little surprised - she believed that Lynch would not break his promise, but she thought that he would need at least three days to get over the shadow of failure, and then she could ask about the prize. She didn't expect that he would come to her door on his own initiative in just a few hours.

"Thank you, but could you please wait until we finish dinner?" Edith tried her best to show her kindness to the sponsor, but her smile was still mocking in the eyes of the servants behind Lin Qi. "I got up early and I'm very hungry now."

She didn't mean to leave them alone. The Charles family followed the same two-meal system as the people in the slums, but the latter was because of poverty, while the former was simply to show off the elegance of the nobility. Edith had eaten her first meal early because she was in a hurry to go to class, and now she was already starving.

When Lin Qi heard the other party say that he got up early, he couldn't help coughing twice, and a blush crept up his ears. Although the other party's tone was calm, he still felt embarrassed - he was indeed late for a long time.

"You guys are a little late for dinner." He could only make small talk, his eyes subconsciously looked behind the other person, and then frowned: "...You guys are eating this?!"

Doreen, who had her back to him, was tilting the bowl and putting the contents of the spoon into her mouth. He couldn't help gasping at the sight of the burnt yellow sticky substance: "What is this?"

"Porridge," Edith replied calmly. "It's just plain porridge with oil and cheese."

The breakfast at Charles's house was quite sumptuous, but the dinner was really disappointing.

Doreen ignored the dispute outside the door. She scooped up another spoonful of porridge with a spoon devoutly. Because she added too much water, many shriveled wheat grains failed to stick to the spoon and slid back into the bowl.

After a lot of trouble, she only managed to feed him a flat spoonful of porridge. Doreen scooped a few mouthfuls, and when it was no longer too hot, she immediately picked up the bowl and swallowed it from the edge.

"I didn't see any cheese." Lynch was silent for a long time.

"Of course what we were given were scraps." Edith remained calm.

The scraps here have been dried hard by the wind, and they cannot be dissolved when mixed into the porridge, and they make my throat hurt when I swallow them.

Neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere became cold for a moment. Edith was about to ask the guests to leave, but Lin Qi suddenly jumped up, turned around and yelled at the bushes, "I'm in charge of food distribution!" He was furious, "Who allowed you to prepare food according to this specification?"

Lynch's servant did not dare to neglect it, and rushed out from behind the bushes to find the kitchen manager. The man stood in front of Lynch with a bitter face, unable to say anything: the specifications of the accompanying meal were decided by Sir Charles and his wife, and they were only responsible for execution.

But this cannot be said in front of the young master, otherwise it would be a slap in the face of Sir Charles. Moreover, when executing the task of distributing meals, his men did deduct a little share...

He could only lower his head and apologize frantically while listening to Lynch's orders. "Sorry, it was our negligence. We will immediately change Miss Griffin's meal standards - everything will be according to your specifications."

Lin Qi held his chin high, looking arrogant, but after hearing the compensation plan, he secretly turned his eyes and glanced in Edith's direction. Seeing that the other party had no doubts, he coughed and replied seriously: "I'm glad to know."

"All relevant executives will have their salaries deducted for one month, and you will have your salary deducted for three months."

The kitchen manager's back teeth were almost broken, but he still had to pretend to be grateful and quickly left the scene.

After watching the short play, Edith clapped her hands twice without any emotion, reluctantly expressing her satisfaction.

"Thank you." She put on her social smile again, "Your justice has brought a little warmth to this winter."

Lin Qi didn't hear her perfunctory response. He raised his eyebrows and a hint of pride appeared in his eyes. He pursed his lips and tried to hide his smile. "It's just a small matter." He coughed twice. "These servants sometimes climb over their masters' heads."

This man still thinks it's all the servant's fault.

Edith found it a little funny. She didn't know how long Charles and his wife could keep up the mask of "kindness" in front of their son.

......

Edith finished her dinner at a leisurely pace and followed Lynch into the private vault of Marquis Charles. The things inside instantly dazzled her eyes and made her sigh:

My God, these nobles who rule a certain area really live a more comfortable life than the great nobles in the royal capital. Weapons such as swords alone can fill up an entire warehouse.

"Wow..." Doreen, who had strongly requested to come along, had never seen much of the world, and her eyes suddenly sparkled with gold, "Oh my God..."

"Pick one too, I'll give it to you." Lin Qi was delighted by her reaction and immediately decided to give her another one. "I started learning swordplay when I was six years old. You're seven, so now is just the right time for you to learn."

Edith paused.

She did think about Duolin's future. On the first day of her journey, she checked Duolin's magic power reserves while examining her body. Unfortunately, although she had a good magic reserve, she was still a long way from becoming a magician.

It's not impossible for her to follow the research path like in her previous life, but it's too hard, so she might as well try the swordsman path.

"Go, pick one you like." She turned around, touched her sister's head, and praised Lynch, "Charles' family has a deep foundation and is kind to the servants. Just take it if it's given to you."

After getting her sister's affirmation, Doreen immediately rushed to the weapon rack with shining eyes.

Lynch still held his head high, trying hard to play the role of the heir to the family with "deep roots" as Edith said. He tried hard to restrain the urge to follow Edith and pin himself in place.

He didn't want to appear reluctant!

Edith had a good eye and could tell at a glance that the sword outside was more of an ornamental piece than a practical piece, so she walked into the depths without much reluctance.

She strolled around slowly, taking a sword from the shelves around her from time to time, shaking it briefly in her hand and then putting it back.

"You can try." Lin Qi couldn't help but say, "Go outside and swing a few times, or practice against a wooden stake, it's all fine."

"Thanks, but no thanks," Edith said without turning around.

"The good stuff should be inside." The servant at the door muttered, "The stuff outside is just ordinary stuff. Are the ones inside of it of higher quality?"

"Who allowed you to discuss the master's things?" The warehouse manager slapped the man and said, "Shut up!"

What if Edith hears me?

Lynch also heard the discussion between the two, but he didn't take it to heart and even hoped that Edith would go further inside.

Only when the opponent has the best sword can you defeat him fairly!

But Edith stopped halfway.

She bent down and slowly and carefully pulled out a gray sword from the bottom shelf.

“Why don’t you go in?” Lin Qi still couldn’t control his mouth. As soon as he said the caring words, he was busy trying to make amends, “I don’t want to give you the best, but I can’t give you something of too low quality—”

"——I want this one."

The two spoke almost at the same time. Lynch was stunned and looked at Edith's final choice in disbelief.

Edith took a deep breath, blew away the dust on the gauntlet, and then drew the sword out of the scabbard.

There was no flash of cold light, nor was there any sharp sound of wind breaking through the air. The sword just hummed heavily, and then stayed dimly in Edith's palm.

After the sword body came out, Lynch was even more shocked - how could such a thing appear in his warehouse?

All rusty!

He lowered his head to hide his embarrassment and ignored the flash of surprise in Edith's eyes.

Edith lowered her eyes and gently stroked the red rust pattern with her fingertips, trying hard to control herself from showing more emotion.

"I guess one of the servants put his own things in by mistake—" Seeing Edith still looking at it, Lynch tried to explain with red ears, "Put it down and choose another one—how about this one?"

He rushed forward and rushed to the deepest part of the warehouse. After a series of clanging and banging, he pulled out a long brown-red wooden box. The box was engraved with delicate patterns and the edges were inlaid with gold lines. It was obvious that it was worth a lot of money.

Lin Qi opened the box in a panic, and a bright red sword immediately appeared in front of everyone. For some reason, the sword was surrounded by chains, and the guard was inlaid with a huge ruby. There was even a black shadow in the center of the ruby, which was curved and stretched, like the pupil of some creature.

Edith's eyes lit up slightly, but she looked down at the thing in her hand, and when she looked up again, the excitement in her eyes was gone.

She once again hugged the gray sword in her hand tightly, firmly refusing amid the terrified gasps of the servants behind her. "Thank you, but I want this one." Edith smiled gently and said considerately, "This weapon should be kept for you."

Lin Qi turned his head away awkwardly, "I have my own sword, you don't need to keep it!"

But Edith still refused.

"No, no..." The servant at the door patted the manager who was so scared that he covered his ears, "At least she knows the etiquette..."

The manager stood up in shock, and before he could catch his breath, he heard a childish voice from the front: "I want it, I want it!"

Doreen emerged from the pile of weapons and ran towards Lynch with joy: "Sister, don't do that. I want this!"

Manager: “…”
