Chapter 110 Does Not Exist
Edith wandered slowly towards Dean Keith's laboratory.
After the Palmer game, perhaps to confirm that Duke Eddie had no intention of revenge, she was finally allowed to leave the dormitory, and classes, meals, experiments, etc. were put on the schedule again - although she was still not allowed to leave the college before the end of the semester.
Edith was not happy about this. She could have skipped classes and concentrated on preparing for the potion test in her dormitory, but now she was forced to go to the first-year classroom every day.
Finally finding some time, she planned to go to Dean Keith to pay him a visit and comfort his wounded heart.
"Let's buy some sweet bread from the bakery..."
Edith felt guilty about asking for another assistant position, so she went to buy some gifts according to her memory of the teacher's preferences. The steaming old bread was sprinkled with sugar the moment it came out of the oven, and when it was put into the paper bag after cooling, a layer of translucent and crispy sugar crust formed on it, which was just right with the soft bread.
I didn't expect Dean Keith to like sweets so much.
Edith was afraid that the sugar had not cooled down completely and would stick to the bag, so she stayed in the bakery for a while longer. When she had packed up her things and walked towards the stairs to the teacher's area, she ran into Duke Eddie coming down from above.
Edith: “…”
how so.
She showed no hesitation at all, and was very calm, walking evenly and looking straight ahead. Duke Eddie was walking with his head down, looking very worried - very good, as long as she didn't feel guilty, the other party would definitely not pay attention to this passerby.
Edith moved forward with ease.
"My Lord Duke, be careful!"
The sudden sharp cry interrupted Edith's thoughts. Her scalp tightened and she raised her head slightly. The Duke opposite her also raised his head and met her gaze. He was obviously stunned for a moment: "...Edith?"
Behind him, the butler carrying a lot of bags was panting and following him. He stood in front of Duke Eddie with a fearless look as if he was facing a great enemy: "What are you going to do!"
Edith frowned.
Why does this housekeeper look so unprofessional?
She didn't explain anything extra, and said calmly, "Excuse me, I'll go find Dean Keith."
"You still dare to look for help?!" The butler shouted even more sharply, "I'm telling you, we just came out from Dean Keith's place—"
Unexpectedly, Edith didn't even listen to his words and walked straight to the stairs.
She knocked on Dean Keith's laboratory door. Dean Keith must have just discussed something with Duke Eddie, and all the students in the laboratory were dispersed, so she had to come in person. She opened the door calmly, but the moment she saw Edith, her face drooped, and she turned back to her desk without saying a word.
It didn't close directly, so there's hope.
Edith lowered her head, said nothing, and went to Dean Keith's desk, placing the bag of bread on the corner. The aroma of wheat roasted in the stove mixed with the sweetness of the sugar shells slowly flowed out of the porous paper bag.
Dean Keith's nose twitched.
Edith saw this and immediately took a stack of documents from the corner of the table, took the initiative to sit down with her back to the other person, and carefully read the summary. A few minutes later, there was a rustling sound behind her, as if someone was taking something out of a paper bag.
The man was obviously aware of the sound and stopped. Edith hurriedly increased the intensity of her writing and flipped the pages of the book. Finally, under the cover of her voice, Dean Keith enjoyed the afternoon tea perfectly.
The sound of boiling water gurgled, and Edith knew it was the signal for the afternoon tea to end. She stood up at the right time, walked to the dean's desk in three or two steps, held the pile of sorted materials in her left hand, wiped the burning magic on the kettle with her right hand, put the materials in, poured water and made tea in one go.
The teapot was six-tenths full, and she used her free left hand to precisely control a small freezing technique, creating a finger-sized whirlwind wrapped around tiny pieces of ice, which slowly melted into the water while stirring the tea. When the whirlpool subsided, the tea was exactly seven-tenths full, with the right temperature, just the right amount for drinking.
Dean Keith picked up the teacup and took a sip, his expression noticeably relaxed.
The paper bag on the table had completely disappeared. Edith roughly estimated that the dean had destroyed it directly and the ashes were thrown into the trash can. The table was so clean that it reflected light, and it was obvious that it had been cleaned not long ago - it must be because of the bread crumbs.
She felt relieved and poured another half cup of tea, but she didn't say anything to explain until Dean Keith couldn't help himself.
"Why do you want to work as a Potions Assistant?"
After a whole cup of tea flowed down her throat, and the sweet taste remained on her tongue, Dean Keith had completely calmed down. She glanced at Edith and spoke first out of compassion.
Edith began to play the victim half-heartedly.
She had never touched potions since she was poor, and she was scared of luck potions, so she hoped to be able to protect herself in this area in the future. After summarizing her own problems, she shifted the topic to the college level and began to accuse them of giving her a "choice" that was not a free choice at all - Dean Keith nodded in agreement on this point.
After explaining to herself, Edith turned around and began to apologize, expressing her apologies to the dean in all aspects, and then vowed that she would never relax her assistant work here just because there was an extra laboratory, and would definitely work harder than before. Finally, she quietly pushed forward the information she had just sorted out, proving her value with practical actions.
After a smooth apology process, the anger on Dean Keith's face had completely disappeared.
"You." She tapped Edith's forehead with her finger half helplessly, "Forget it, make some tea."
Successfully escaped.
Edith completely relaxed, lowered her head to pour tea for Dean Keith, and confirmed that the other party's emotions were stable. She spoke carefully: "Speaking of which, why are other students not in the lab today?"
It would be too deliberate to ask Duke Eddie directly.
"I told them not to come." Dean Keith picked up a piece of information Edith had sorted out, looked at the neat layout, and nodded approvingly. "You are still good. The information you submit every time is very close to the association's standards. You are much better than your seniors."
Edith accepted the compliment frankly, then pretended to be surprised: "Then should I not have come?"
"It's okay, we've finished talking about everything." Dean Keith put down the information and lowered his head to take a sip of tea. "Speaking of which, this matter is somewhat related to you. I wonder if you saw anyone when you came up just now?"
Edith said, half true and half false: "I saw a man with his head down, but he quickly ran past me. I didn't see anyone else."
Dean Keith hummed, "He is Duke Eddie, Celeste's father."
Edith opened her mouth with an "O".
"Impossible?" She asked tentatively, and pointed out the problems she had just observed one by one. "The person following behind was shouting in front of the man, and the distance between them was far, which was obviously not the normal distance between a butler and his master. And, most importantly, he stepped on the man's shadow when he walked forward--"
Any of the "charges" mentioned above would be enough to get a butler fired or even killed.
Dean Keith slumped back and rubbed his eyes tiredly, "Yeah... Earl Eddie doesn't seem quite right right now."
That's too abnormal. He can barely communicate with people, and his voice is normal when he speaks, but sometimes he freezes and has to be continued by the butler.
The two of them talked about the posture of ten people, until she finally figured out what the other party wanted: "You want Louisa's private copy of the spell?"
Duke Eddie nodded.
"There is no such thing." Dean Keith waved his hand casually. "If you want to read that internal biography, I can apply to borrow it, but you know what's inside. There's nothing much."
"As for the private copy you mentioned? Who knows if it really exists?"
It was just a legend that Louisa had a private copy circulating in the world. To be honest, if it was true, the Giles family would definitely be the first to know about it. But they even dug up the coffin, and in the end they only got an autobiography.
Dean Keith believed that the legendary private book containing countless ancient spells no longer existed in the world.
Duke Eddie stared straight at Dean Keith, making the other man feel uneasy - this was not what a famous gentleman should do.
Edith frowned slightly when she heard this.
But according to what Langman said at the time...only the first layer of Louisa's coffin was broken.
They took out the autobiography from the first layer, but could not open the inner coffin which was sealed tightly. Therefore, the Giles family had to offer sacrifices along with the fish, hair, leftovers and sticks buried in the inner coffin.
If there is an inner coffin still there...will the legendary "private copy" be there?
"And then he left?"
"Hmm." Dean Keith closed his eyes and hummed through his nose.
He probably thought that as the chief spell teacher of Beunis College and the dean of Langman College, he must know something, so he came to ask questions. In the end, he didn't get anything out of her, but he didn't forget to pack up and take away several rare spell books she collected, saying that he would be back in two months.
"But why on earth is he so anxious to get Louisa's spell..."
Dean Keith muttered to himself, but Edith had a rough guess - she and Shelly must have hurt Count Eddie badly when they teamed up to remove the surveillance, so he looked stupid, and walked in a daze, and couldn't even recognize himself. But his consciousness would be briefly clear, during which time he needed to try to find a way to treat himself - after all, he was a nobleman, and he had extremely rich medical resources at his disposal, but if even the top doctors were helpless against his illness, then he could only turn to the ethereal "ancient spell".
Edith took note of the matter and planned to talk to Shelly about it later.
She pretended to stay to sort out the materials, worked for half an hour, and left the dean's laboratory on her own initiative, saying that she had classes. But in fact, she secretly turned around and sneaked into Shelly's laboratory from the bushes at the edge.
I didn't expect that the other party was not there.
Edith walked around the door aimlessly twice, then turned to look at the course schedule on the wall and wrote down all of Shelly's classes.
This way it won’t be easy to run away.
She walked downstairs, intending to go back to the dormitory to continue studying Joe's combat habits. Unexpectedly, as soon as she turned the corner, Ursula, Zebulon and Ivan appeared in her sight.
