Chapter 4 The Most Important Person

Chapter 4 The Most Important Person

The food prepared on the table was all that Bo Jinzhou and Lu Yiwan liked to eat.

Edamame, soft-shelled turtle, and yam soup—these were foods that Jiang Yimian would never have even glanced at before.

Now, however, she acts as if she doesn't see anything and eats whatever she picks up.

Bo Jinzhou naturally noticed this as well.

Bo Jinzhou: "Uncle, I remember that your family's private chef used to make delicious tofu and shrimp cakes, which made me miss them a lot when I was abroad."

Jiang Yimian's lowered eyelashes trembled; tofu and shrimp cakes were her favorite food.

Lu Wenchang glanced at Jiang Yimian without revealing his expression, and said with a smile, "I was too busy and forgot. I'll have someone make it right away."

About five or six minutes later, a tofu and shrimp pancake appeared on the table.

Bo Jinzhou unceremoniously removed the edamame and diced pork dish in front of Jiang Yimian and placed the tofu and shrimp cakes in front of her.

His voice was very pleasant, deep and magnetic, and at this moment it carried a lazy and casual tone: "I remember Mianmian also loves to eat it."

This tofu and shrimp cake was something her mother would make for her when she was little because she didn't like to eat. It was nutritious and delicious.

Jiang Yimian felt a pang of sadness, blinked quickly, and tried to banish the loving figure from her mind.

She didn't eat it, but Bo Jinzhou took the initiative to pick up a piece and put it in her bowl.

Jiang Yimian looked up at him. Bo Jinzhou had a smile on his lips and said in a sly tone, "Want me to feed you?"

Before Jiang Yimian could answer, he picked up a pancake and prepared to stuff it into her mouth.

The three men looked surprised, and Jiang Yimian was so frightened that she snatched the pancake back with her chopsticks and stuffed it into her own mouth.

Bo Jinzhou: "Is it delicious?"

Her voice was muffled: "Delicious," but she was even angrier at him.

Bo Jinzhou didn't linger after finishing his meal. He had just returned to China and the company had a lot of things to do.

It took a lot of time to squeeze in some time to come to the Jiang residence for dinner.

Watching Bo Jinzhou leave, Lu Wenchang's harmonious expression immediately turned gloomy, and he scolded Jiang Yimian: "Get out of here to the study."

In the study, Lu Wenchang sat in a sandalwood chair, his gaze fixed authoritatively on the face before him that resembled that of his deceased wife.

His gaze darkened further, and with a loud thud, the teacup on the table was slammed down. "Did you ignore what I said yesterday?"

Jiang Yimian found it amusing: "Yesterday you told me to talk less."

"I did it, what more do you want?"

Her voice was cold and her words were sharp. Lu Wenchang seemed to see the shadow of Jiang Hua in her.

He grabbed a cup from the table and smashed it over her head; the small blue-and-white porcelain teacup hit her forehead.

The action came suddenly, but it was also within Jiang Yimian's expectations. Unlike before, she didn't try to dodge and took the hit head-on.

She staggered a few steps, then steadied herself by holding onto the wall.

"Are you so angry because you're afraid I'll ruin the marriage between Bo Jinzhou and Lu Yiwan?"

"You've probably forgotten that the engagement was arranged between me and Bo Jinzhou by my mother and Aunt Pei. What does Su Yuwan have to do with it?"

Lu Wenchang felt a moment of guilt, but quickly suppressed it, staring at her with uncontrollable rage, "You've gone too far."

"Wanwan is the eldest daughter, so naturally she will be the one to accept the marriage alliance with the Bo family."

Jiang Yimian has been imprisoned again.

He was locked in a small room in the Jiang residence.

It was a warehouse where miscellaneous items were stored, but it was the place Jiang Yimian knew best. She skillfully patted the dust off the folding iron bed.

She lay down in complete darkness, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she stared into the endless darkness.

The sharp pain in her forehead reminded her that Bo Jinzhou had really returned.

It's been seven years.

Seven years, that's a long time.

She endured it for seven years.

Her confinement usually lasts three days.

They were only given one meal a day for the next three days, and whether the meal was good or not depended on the servants' mood.

If I'm in a good mood, I'll give her something fresh; if I'm in a bad mood, I'll let it spoil.

With her phone not with her, she had no idea what time it was. The warehouse was enclosed, and she could only rely on the servants to bring her meals to determine if it was daylight, and how many times it had been daylight.

The wound on her forehead hadn't been treated, and the place was unbearably hot and humid at night. The next day, Jiang Yimian felt unwell.

My head hurts and I feel dizzy.

I have no strength at all.

She lay on the iron bunk bed, groggily opening her eyes, feeling herself sinking into boundless darkness.

She murmured weakly, "Bo Jinzhou, if you don't come, I'll have accepted your WeChat account for nothing."

All that injury was for nothing.

The WeChat approval was something Bo Jinzhou insisted on after dinner last night.

Bo Jinzhou only let her leave after she clicked "approved" right under his nose.

Seven years have passed, and many things have changed, but the boy in my memory seems unchanged.

Still cold and arrogant, even when trying to coax someone, his words are incredibly venomous.

But she changed.

She had long since given up on the bond of childhood friendship.

He was the one who abandoned her first.

Suddenly, a hole was torn in the darkness, and blinding light forced its way in.

When she was thirteen, Bo Jinzhou personally told her that he would always stay by her side.

When he was fifteen, Bo Jinzhou said, "I will never abandon you, because you are Princess Mianmian. How could I dare to leave without the princess's permission?"

Even today, Jiang Yimian can still recall the words spoken by that unrestrained seventeen-year-old boy, whose tone was so nonchalant, carrying the unique arrogance of youth.

But things changed when she turned seventeen.

At that time, Bo Jinzhou was already nineteen years old and studying in the Department of Finance at Yenching University. He was a true prodigy, having completed four years of university courses at the age of nineteen.

Following his original path, he completed his bachelor's and master's degrees and then smoothly entered the Bo family business.

But he went to the United States.

She left with Lu Yiwan, leaving her alone to face the demonic Lu Wenchang, Su Hui, and those petty people who took advantage of her misfortune.

He had clearly said he would never abandon her, and he clearly knew that Lu Yiwan was her enemy.

But he still went abroad to study with her.

Jiang's mother died of organ failure when she was sixteen. Soon after, Lu Wenchang officially recognized the nanny Su Hui and her daughter Su Yuwan as his wives.

Jiang Yimian caused a huge scene at the time. She was slapped twice by Lu Wenchang, and it was Bo Jinzhou who came and took her away.

That night, Jiang Yimian held him and cried for a long time.

She was terrified of losing him, so terrified that her whole body trembled. In this world, she could only rely on Bo Jinzhou.

She made Bo Jinzhou swear that he would never abandon her.

On that stormy night, Bo Jinzhou's voice rang out so loudly that it drowned out the thunder and rain, leaving an indelible mark on her heart.

"I swear, I will never leave Lu Yimian, and I will protect you for the rest of my life."

Jiang Yimian believed him and became increasingly dependent on him.

But just when she was most dependent on Bo Jinzhou, he told her that he was going to study abroad.

Jiang Yimian's first thought was that he wanted to betray her.

Jiang Yimian will never forgive those who betrayed her.

Bo Jinzhou was in a company meeting and sent several messages to Jiang Yimian, but she didn't reply.

The meeting was conducted in a casual manner.

Two hours later, the meeting ended, and assistant Song Zhou reported on the next steps. Bo Jinzhou said, "Cancel it. Go to the Jiang residence."

Song Zhou was taken aback for a moment, then went to arrange a car.

Having served Bo Jinzhou for five years, he knew better than anyone that Miss Lu, or rather, Miss Jiang now, was the most important person to him.
