Chapter 148 Arriving at the Border

Nothing went wrong on the way to the border.

While Qu Jingyun breathed a sigh of relief, a sense of worry lingered deep within her heart.

I have a feeling that something bad is about to happen.

She looked down at the message Di Jingyuan had sent her and fell into deep thought.

It seems things are more complicated than she thought.

Realizing this, Qu Jingyun sighed silently.

All of this will have to wait until we reach the border to be dealt with separately.

What Qu Jingyun didn't expect was that Shen Yue and the others were also at the border.

They had recently delivered provisions and fodder to us, and instead of leaving, they temporarily settled in a nearby village.

Yin Xue and Shen Yue also wanted to do their part in the war effort.

Upon learning that Shen Yunting was leading his troops there, he rushed to the military camp to meet him.

"Father, I really didn't expect you to arrive so quickly." Shen Yue's eyes were red, and her face was full of joy.

Shen Yunting looked at her with admiration: "You did a great job. Your mother will be very proud of you."

Li Feihong, the garrison commander standing nearby, chimed in, "General Shen, your daughter is truly a remarkable woman. Not only did she escort the grain supplies all the way here to relieve our urgent crisis, but she also fought against a young general in the army."

"To my shame, quite a few people have fallen to her."

Upon hearing this, Shen Yunting's smile deepened.

He patted Shen Yue on the shoulder with satisfaction, then said, "Your mother raised you very well."

He then lowered his voice and said mysteriously, "I have a surprise for you later, I'm sure you'll be very happy."

A smile spread across Shen Yue's face, and she quickly thanked him.

"Let's not reminisce outside. Let's go back to the tent first. The general must be exhausted from the long journey. Come in and have some hot tea to relax." Li Feihong called to everyone as they walked towards the tent.

Along the way, they immediately attracted the attention of the people around them, who gathered in small groups and whispered among themselves.

"That must be General Shen. He's my idol. I joined the army because of him. He's incredibly capable, and I really admire him."

"When I first joined the army, my father said that if I could see General Shen, I would have no regrets even if I died. It's just a pity that General Shen had already passed away when I came. It's so good to be able to see him now."

"Yes, yes, I wonder if I'll have a chance to go up and say a word to him, even just one word."

In the corner, Chen Song lowered his eyes and remained silent.

His appearance immediately attracted the attention of those around him, and someone unceremoniously pulled him aside and began to ask him questions.

"Little Shen, aren't you also from the capital? Have you ever seen General Shen before?"

Shen Song came to the border to join the army, concealing his identity and starting from the bottom.

Apart from the highest-ranking officer in the military camp, no one knew his true identity, nor would they know that he was actually the eldest son of the universally praised General Shen.

Upon hearing the questions from the crowd, he chuckled and shook his head, saying, "Of course I've seen them before."

"He must be quite burly; could he scare a child to tears with just a glare?"

"I've heard that he's as handsome as Pan An, and doesn't look like a military general at all."

The two sides immediately started arguing, neither willing to back down.

Shen Song listened and shook his head with amusement.

Since joining the army, the thing he heard most often was people talking about his father.

At first he felt a little uncomfortable, but he got used to it after hearing it a lot.

Now they can talk about Shen Yunting as if they were strangers.

Seeing that everyone's eyes were on him, Shen Song smiled and said, "General Shen's appearance is indeed remarkable. If he were not wearing armor, he would look like a weak scholar. However, when he gets angry, he is quite frightening."

"Especially when he was wielding his spear, a single glance from him could instill fear in people."

A hint of nostalgia flickered in Shen Song's eyes before he continued, "Not only that, his wife was equally formidable, her martial arts skills were not to be underestimated."

"Madam Shen? Does Madam Shen know martial arts? We've never heard of her." Someone asked, puzzled.

"Hey, I heard that General Shen has already divorced. Little Shen, are you really from the capital?" someone questioned.

Chen Song was taken aback, feeling annoyed.

He hurriedly spoke up to defend himself, saying, "The two have indeed divorced. I was referring to the former Madam Shen. I heard that she disguised herself as a man and went to the battlefield when she was young. She was a very formidable person."

But as he spoke, his expression inevitably became dejected.

Qu Jingyun gave up her carefree life not for them, but for the entire General's Mansion.

Ultimately, it was them who wronged Qu Jingyun.

But before, he had always disliked Qu Jingyun, feeling that she was too domineering.

Looking back now, I realize it was really wrong.

Thinking of this, Shen Song couldn't help but sigh deeply, a wave of regret washing over him.

But when his words reached the ears of the crowd, disbelief was written all over their faces.

"You can't be making this up out of thin air, can you? I heard that General Shen dared to come to the border, so I secretly inquired about him. How come I've never heard of any of this?"

Someone looked at Chen Song with dissatisfaction, and then said, "Many of them are from the capital. It's hard to believe what you're saying."

"Believe it or not, it's up to you." Chen Song said indifferently.

It's enough for him to know in his heart that his mother is very capable.

Just then, the sound of exclamations from the crowd rang out again.

“Actually, I think what Xiao Shen said makes sense. The woman who went with General Shen just now seemed to be the young lady who delivered grain a while ago. I heard she is General Shen’s daughter. If the daughter can do this much, the mother must also be a heroine.”

Suddenly, someone in the crowd spoke up, immediately attracting everyone's attention.

Someone couldn't wait to ask, "Are those two celestial beauties General Shen's daughters?"

"It doesn't seem so. One of them, with her hair styled in a woman's bun, seems to be General Shen's daughter-in-law."

Upon hearing this, Chen Song's body stiffened instantly, but no one noticed as the others continued talking to themselves.

Until someone's gaze fell on Chen Song.

"Did Madam Shen see you a few days ago?"

Upon hearing this, Shen Song quickly looked up and lowered his gaze.

One of them looked at him with a puzzled expression.

He suddenly realized that it must be Yin Xue who came to deliver the things to him.

He was very happy at that time and couldn't wait to rush over.

But in the end, all I received was a distant greeting from the other party.

My heart felt as if it had been doused with cold water.

However, he didn't feel anything was wrong, since he was the one who was in the wrong first.

Yin Xue's current attitude towards him can only be described as him reaping what he sowed.

Thinking of this, Chen Song gave a bitter laugh.

He then raised his head and explained to everyone, "I am a distant relative of Mrs. Shen. My family asked someone to have Mrs. Shen bring some things over."
