Chapter 83 Decision

Qu Jingyun's words grew increasingly cold, and the old man felt his authority being challenged.

"Do you even remember that I am your father? Is this how you talk to me?"

"So what? Do you think you can still use family discipline on me now? Besides relying on me, what other options do you have?" Qu Jingyun said directly, "Isn't it better for us father and daughter to live in peace like this?"

Her eyes held a hidden threat, which the old man noticed, and his heart skipped a beat.

He wanted to say something more, but was interrupted by Qu Jingyun.

"I have been married into the general's family for nearly twenty years. I have been walking on thin ice and working hard to make a living. I don't want to live that kind of life anymore. What have I done wrong? In short, you have no right to interfere with my decision."

Qu Jingyun glanced coldly at the old man, her eyes revealing deep disappointment.

Finally, he spoke, "If you are unwilling to stay in the Qu residence, I will have someone send you away."

Her words left no room for negotiation.

The old man stood still, and for some reason, his eyes held a hint of heartache as he looked at Qu Jingyun.

She must have had a very hard time these past few years!

In the blink of an eye, his gaze fell on Qi Yun'er beside him, and his expression immediately turned cold.

"This divorce is indeed your own business, and I have no right to interfere. But what about your cousin? What did she do wrong to deserve this treatment?"

"Then tell me, how did I treat her?" Qu Jingyun retorted with a cold smile.

"How dare you say that? You kicked her and her widow out for no reason, leaving them to live like beggars. Isn't that going too far? They are your family, not your enemies," the old man rebuked.

"You really went too far this time!"

Qu Jingyun scoffed at these words and retorted, "The three of them are all capable of making a living, yet they choose to live like beggars. Is that my fault?"

"Besides, Father, it wasn't me who kicked them out of the General's Mansion; they left on their own."

"Nonsense, they've long considered the General's Mansion their home, so why would they want to leave?" The old man's face was full of disbelief.

"Naturally, it's because they colluded with the rebels to try and reach the General's Mansion here. They thought the General's Mansion would be implicated, so they ran off with the money," Qu Jingyun said without any attempt to hide her intentions.

Qi Yun'er's face was deathly pale, and she shook her head frantically.

"I...I didn't."

"That's impossible." The old man naturally didn't believe it either.

"Qi Mingyue stole the defense map of the General's Mansion and gave it to the rebels. If I hadn't been prepared, the entire capital would have fallen. This is all the work of that mother and her two children. Isn't this the fate they deserve?"

Before Qu Jingyun could finish speaking, Qi Yun'er knelt down on the ground.

She kept kowtowing and cried out in a pitiful voice, "Cousin, I know you hate me, but you can't frame me like this. I can't bear such a terrible crime."

"I've endured all the grievances you've inflicted on me by kicking me out of the General's Mansion. If you really hate me that much, I'll leave your sight right now and never appear again."

"But I truly consider you my sister, and I truly regard the General's Mansion as my home. How could I possibly do such a thing?"

"It's one thing for you to slander me, but how could you slander Mingyue? She's so young, how can she bear such a crime?"

"Are you really trying to force me to my death?"

She cried bitterly, each word a tearful accusation.

The old man listened with a pang of pity.

Pointing his index finger at Qu Jingyun, he said, "Take a good look at this. What a good child you've driven to this state. What else do you want to do?"

"Are we really just going to watch her die? You're sisters!"

Qu Jingyun remained unmoved and said directly, "How could someone as shameless as her possibly die? Father, you're overthinking it."

"Fine, since you've said so, cousin, I'll die in front of you to prove my innocence. I only ask that you take good care of my two children and not let them bear the blame."

After saying this, Qi Yun'er gritted her teeth, her gaze fell on a pillar not far away, and she charged straight at it.

The old man was extremely anxious and wanted to go over and stop them.

However, because he didn't have his cane and was too anxious, he fell to the ground.

He could only watch helplessly as Qi Yun'er crashed into him.

Seeing that a tragedy was about to occur, the old man closed his eyes in despair.

But all that could be heard was Qu Jingyun's disdainful sneer: "Don't hold back, remember to use all your strength to ram in, otherwise if you don't die, you'll be in real trouble as a half-dead person."

“Your children are not capable of taking care of you in your current state, but don’t worry, if you really do die like this, I will definitely spend two taels of silver to buy you a coffin and settle you down.”

Qi Yun'er wanted to rush over, but she stopped abruptly, her expression turning somewhat embarrassed.

With no one stopping her, she was caught in a dilemma: whether to hit him or not.

He could only turn his pleading gaze to his two children.

However, the two men were also in dire straits, being restrained by the guards and unable to stop them.

With no other option, Qi Yun'er could only steel herself against the pillar.

Since that's the case, she has no choice but to take a gamble.

Unexpectedly, Qu Jingyun spoke up at this moment: "You should think it over carefully. If you die here today, no one will protect your two children anymore."

"What will happen to them next is uncertain. With their stupid brains, they'll probably lose their lives very soon."

Now, Qi Yun'er couldn't even keep up the pretense anymore.

He glared fiercely at Qu Jingyun: "What exactly do you want? Do you really want to see our whole family of three driven to death before you're satisfied?"

Seeing this scene, the old man could no longer bear it.

Looking up at Qu Jingyun, he asked, "What are you doing? When did you become such a heartless and ungrateful person?"

"Does Father not believe me?" Qu Jingyun sighed softly, then asked, "Do you think everything I just said was a lie?"

The old man snorted coldly.

Although nothing was said, the meaning was very clear.

Qu Jingyun saw it all, but she wasn't angry.

When he glanced at Qi Yun'er, he caught a glimpse of the smug look on her face.

He spoke directly, "Qi Yun'er, actually your return to the capital was unexpected. I really didn't expect you to be so stupid."

"The evidence against you for colluding with the rebels is irrefutable; even the Emperor knows. How did you manage to get back? Did you want to be beheaded and displayed to the public?"

"What, what did you say?" Qi Yun'er's face changed, and her voice trembled.
