Chapter 28 Calling for Reinforcements (shuhaige.net)

Qu Jingyun turned her head to look at Shen Yue, who still looked terrified, and suddenly smiled at her.

Shen Yue shuddered and instinctively stepped back.

"Mother, Mother, what's wrong?"

Seeing how afraid she was of her, Qu Jingyun flicked her forehead.

"It's nothing, I just wanted to ask how well you're learning manners, and if your grandmother comes back, do you know how to deal with her?"

"grandmother?"

Shen Yue looked completely bewildered.

Why had she never heard of such a grandmother before?

Yin Xue explained with a smile, "My grandmother was rarely at home before; she prayed for the general at the temple."

As soon as she finished speaking, Yin Xue's expression suddenly changed drastically.

"Oh no! My aunt is going to Guanghua Temple, where my grandmother is worshipping Buddha. Mother, we must go and stop her quickly."

"Stop what?" Qu Jingyun asked with a smile.

Seeing that she wasn't worried at all, Yin Xue asked in confusion, "Mother, if Grandmother is misled by Aunt and misunderstands you, the peaceful days of the General's Mansion will be over."

Eight years ago, Qu Jingyun was a notorious feisty woman, and this old lady was no pushover either.

I heard that when Qu Jingyun first entered the mansion, she argued with the old lady for several months. In the end, the old lady lost the argument and was sent to Guanghua Temple to pray for blessings, where she became a secular nun.

Seeing Yin Xue's uneasy expression, Qu Jingyun chuckled again.

She leaned back in her recliner, crossed her legs, and looked incredibly content.

Shen Yue tentatively analyzed, "Is it because Mother is now in charge of the General's Mansion, and not afraid of Grandmother?"

Upon hearing this, Yin Xue glanced at Shen Yue, then at Qu Jingyun, who had not refuted her.

So, is the mother-in-law already prepared to fight the other party?

Guanghua Temple.

Led by the young nun, Qi Yun'er entered the innermost Zen temple.

Unlike the rustic exterior, this place is much quieter. A locust tree, too big to be encircled by two hands, stands in the center of the courtyard, blocking out the scorching summer sun.

To make this quiet courtyard even quieter.

"Madam." A voice trembling with sobs broke the tranquility of the monastery.

The old woman, who was kneeling on the prayer mat, striking the wooden fish and chanting sutras, raised her head and frowned in displeasure.

Seeing that she was unhappy, the nanny immediately walked towards the door.

After opening the door, the old woman looked at Qi Yun'er with displeasure.

“Benefactor Qi, this is a sacred Buddhist site. How can you make such a commotion?”

With tears welling up in her eyes, Qi Yun'er looked at the old nanny and said, "Nanny, it's not that I want to make a scene, but the General's Mansion is in turmoil right now. We need to get the old lady back to uphold justice."

The old woman glanced into the room, then looked impatiently at Qi Yun'er.

"Wait a moment."

The old woman closed the door and went back to whisper a few words in the old lady's ear.

The old lady opened her eyes, her gaze sharp, and looked at the Buddha statue with displeasure.

"Fine, let her in."

The nanny then went to invite the person in.

After entering, Qi Yun'er looked around and immediately felt disgusted.

But she quickly concealed the emotions in her eyes.

She pulled Qi Mingyue and Qi Hao to the old lady and said with a smile, "Mingyue, Hao'er, this is your grandmother. Please pay your respects to her."

"Wait a minute." The old lady frowned and said in a deep voice, "Benefactor Qi, are you mistaken? These two don't seem to be children of my Shen family, do they?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Qi Yun'er knelt down.

She pretended to wipe away non-existent tears.

“Madam, it’s not that I’m trying to sow discord, but the eldest son has now become involved with the remnants of the previous dynasty, and the second son is over ten years old but can’t even read a few characters. No teacher dares to take him in. How can such a person become the next head of the General’s Mansion?”

"What did you say?" The old lady gripped her prayer beads tightly, her face turning grim.

Upon seeing this, a look of wild joy flashed in Qi Yun'er's eyes.

It seems there's a chance.

Immediately afterwards, Qi Yun'er gave Qi Hao a look.

Qi Hao immediately bowed to the old lady.

"Grandmother, my name is Qi Hao. I am well-versed in the Four Books and Five Classics. My teacher said that if I participate in the spring recruitment next year, I will definitely be the top candidate."

"Oh? That's amazing?" the old lady asked curiously.

Seeing that she was clearly interested in Qi Hao, Qi Yun'er immediately nodded.

"That's right, our Hao'er is very capable. Madam, please rest assured, Hao'er will definitely bring glory to the General's Mansion."

"What's going on?" the old lady asked, puzzled.

Qi Yun'er sighed again.

Then she said earnestly, "Madam, you know my cousin's personality very well. There's nothing she can't get if she wants it. You've been working hard in the temple for many years. Now is the best time for you to reclaim your power. And you don't need to worry about the General's Mansion having no successor. Hao'er is very good."

Qi Hao nodded in agreement, "Grandmother, don't be afraid. I will be able to participate in the Spring Examination next year, and I will definitely win the championship."

The old lady stared straight at him without saying a word.

Feeling somewhat uncomfortable under their gaze, Qi Hao grew a little dissatisfied.

Qi Yun'er immediately stepped in front of Qi Hao, concealing his true expression.

"Don't worry, Madam. Hao'er will take good care of you. You don't need to care about Qu Jingyun's two good-for-nothing sons anymore."

The old lady coldly withdrew her gaze.

"You make it sound so easy. There's one thing I still don't understand: is Qu Jingyun really out of options?"

Qi Yun'er immediately nodded confidently.

"Madam, just listen to me. I guarantee I can make you a respected old lady again. Now all we need to do is go back to the manor."

"Okay, I'll do whatever you say. I'll do whatever you tell me to do." The old lady nodded seriously.

Seeing that she agreed so easily, Qi Yun'er smiled smugly again.
