Shen Cong clenched his fists, his eyes flashing with barely concealed anger.
Qu Jingyun ignored him. Upon learning that the old lady's carriage had entered the city, she immediately told the children to go outside and wait.
After she left, Shen Cong pulled Shen Yue over.
"Moon, you haven't been wronged, have you?"
Shen Yue immediately shook her head.
She glanced at Qu Jingyun, then looked away.
"Brother, Mother is actually very good. These past few days, she has been teaching me manners, I..."
"What?" Shen Cong's face instantly turned ugly, and he gritted his teeth and said, "It wasn't enough for her torment me, she also wants to bully you?"
Shen Yue shook her head again.
She hugged Shen Cong, who wanted to confront Qu Jingyun, and whispered, "She didn't bully me or hit me. It was my cousin who got hit by her. And I heard that Mother is looking for a husband for my cousin recently, and they're all minor officials."
Upon hearing this, the meaning in Shen Cong's eyes deepened.
When he looked at Qu Jingyun, his eyes held a deeper meaning.
How could he not understand what Qu Jingyun was trying to do?
Seeing that Shen Cong seemed to have a lot of opinions about Qu Jingyun, Shen Yue said again, "What Aunt said before was wrong. In fact, Mother is very good to us. She just didn't know how to care for us. Now Mother knows."
Shen Cong let out another cold snort.
"It's just a smokescreen. If she really cared about me, she wouldn't have let me go to the Shenji Camp to be bullied. Besides, the Emperor even saw me and beat me up."
The thought of the emperor's murderous gaze sent chills down Shen Cong's spine.
He knew that Qu Jingyun had brought it.
Because he couldn't afford to offend Qu Jingyun, the emperor vented his anger on himself.
Both thunder and rain are imperial favors, and he cannot have any complaints.
Seeing that the emperor disliked him, the Shenji Battalion assigned him the most menial and difficult tasks.
He even had to train with that group of people every day.
He would rather be bullied to death in the general's mansion than return to the Shenji Camp.
Soon the old lady's carriage arrived.
It was a very simple carriage, with only two lanterns hanging on it and no other decorations. It didn't look like a carriage that a general's mansion would use.
Qi Yun'er got off the carriage first.
She glanced smugly at Qu Jingyun, then went to help the old lady.
The old lady glanced coldly at Qu Jingyun before quickly looking away.
Qi Yun'er helped the old lady inside, and then the others followed.
Upon entering the main hall, the old lady spoke: "Madam Qu, come here."
Upon hearing her call her name, Qu Jingyun immediately went over and knelt respectfully.
Upon seeing this, the old lady let out another cold snort.
"It seems you haven't forgotten the rules, but I heard you mistreated my three grandsons. You even had the eldest imprisoned in the dungeon for a few days. I also heard that the eldest was poisoned and rendered mute because of you."
Qu Jingyun stood up straight and said neither humbly nor arrogantly, "Mother is joking. Song'er misjudged people and almost caused the General's Mansion to be buried with him. Your daughter-in-law was saving him."
"Sister." Qi Yun'er called out to her, lowered her head to wipe the corners of her eyes that had no tears, and said aggrievedly, "Sister, I know you hate Song'er because you are on my side, but you can't let Song'er suffer in prison."
As she spoke, Qi Yun'er gave Shen Song a wink.
A bewildered Shen Song subconsciously walked over.
But before they had taken two steps, Yin Xue grabbed Shen Song's arm and shook her head at him subtly.
This is a battlefield now; he can't go.
Shen Song immediately stopped.
He looked at Qi Yun'er warily, "Auntie, is there something you need?"
Qi Yun'er glanced at Yin Xue with displeasure, her teeth itching with hatred.
I knew that little slut was no good.
Qi Yun'er cried and said, "My dear Song'er, although your aunt only took care of you for five years, in your aunt's heart you are still your aunt's son. Now that your grandmother is back, you can tell your grandmother if you have any grievances."
Shen Song shook his head blankly.
"But I have no grievances."
"You..." Seeing that he was still like a fool, Qi Yun'er regretted that she had gone too far in ruining this child.
Then she started crying again.
"Sister, did you use some means to force Song'er to say this?"
Qu Jingyun gave her a cold glance before quickly looking away at the old lady.
"Madam, you must know how good I am to Song'er. If I didn't do that, everyone in our General's Mansion would be doomed."
The old lady snorted coldly.
"I see you only care about your own interests. Let me ask you, who has been taking care of Song'er for the past five years?"
Qu Jingyun remained silent.
She stood up and sat down to the side.
"Mrs. Qu!" The old lady slammed her fist on the table in anger, shouting, "Don't you have any manners? Did I tell you to get up?"
She gave him a cold look and said dismissively, "I don't really have any rules. After all, rules vary from person to person."
The old lady was so angry she almost couldn't catch her breath.
Upon seeing this, Qi Yun'er's eyes lit up.
If the old lady were to die of anger at Qu Jingyun's hands now...
Qi Yun'er helped the old lady to calm down while also trying to soothe her: "Old lady, in my opinion, my sister doesn't care about the General's Mansion at all. She just wants to take it all for herself. None of us know what my sister has been doing outside these past five years."
"Mrs. Qu!" The old lady pointed at her angrily: "You better tell me honestly, are you having an affair?"
"Oh!"
She let out a disdainful sneer.
Then he warned, "Madam, you must provide evidence before you speak, otherwise I will have to ask the elders of the clan to judge the matter with you."
"Do you have any evidence?" the old lady asked Qi Yun'er.
Qi Yun'er's smile froze instantly.
What evidence could she possibly have?
And how come this old man is being led by the nose by Qu Jingyun?
Qi Yun'er quickly laughed again, "Sister, Heaven is watching what people do. Whether you've done something or not, Heaven knows best. I advise you not to hide it from us."
Qu Jingyun said dismissively, "If you want to accuse me of cheating, then find evidence that I cheated, otherwise..."
Qu Jingyun's eyes turned cold.
She warned coldly, "Qi Yun'er, don't think that just because my father is backing you up, I won't dare to do anything to you. Maybe one day I'll secretly kill you without you even knowing."
Qi Yun'er shivered and immediately hid behind the old lady.
The old lady quickly rolled her eyes.
However, the old lady still outwardly showed great disgust.
She waved impatiently at the group.
"Alright, stop spouting nonsense with unsubstantiated claims. I just returned to the Qu family today and you've already spoken rudely to me. Go kneel in the ancestral hall."
After saying that, the old lady asked Qi Yun'er to help her to rest.
Evening, at the ancestral hall.
creakâ
The door was opened.
Immediately afterwards, the sound of a cane came from behind.
The old lady strode forward, intending to help Qu Jingyun, who was kneeling, to her feet.
But she didn't move an inch.
Seeing this, the old lady said irritably, "You have quite a temper, girl. If I didn't do this, would your sister have been so easily fooled?"
