Chapter 146 Departure

"Not to mention." Qu Jingyun paused, glancing sideways at Shen Yunting.

Then he said, "I'm afraid your body is even less able to withstand such strain than mine."

Upon hearing this, Shen Yunting's face immediately darkened.

He said with dissatisfaction, "What do you mean by that?"

Qu Jingyun chuckled softly, then leaned closer and sat in his lap.

But he said, "Isn't what I'm saying true? I'm much younger than you."

A smug look spread across her face.

Qu Jingyun was already a few years younger than Shen Yunting, and with those five wasted years, she looked about ten years younger than him.

Fortunately, Shen Yunting is handsome, and although he is getting older, he has gained a mature and charming appearance.

In addition, the years of war, the hardships of living outdoors, and the countless injuries have naturally aged them considerably.

Qu Jingyun didn't feel anything was wrong; she just found his maturity more attractive.

However, Shen Yunting did not feel that way. Hearing Qu Jingyun's teasing, he suddenly felt a little uncomfortable.

One can't help but wonder: Is he really old?

Qu Jingyun was feeling quite pleased with herself, but when she didn't get a response from Shen Yunting, she couldn't help but look over.

But then she saw his sad and dejected look and was taken aback.

Was Shen Yunting disappointed because of her words?

Thinking of this, Qu Jingyun sat on Shen Yunting's lap and wrapped her arms around his neck.

She gently rubbed her cheek against his and chuckled softly.

"I never imagined that the dignified General Shen would have this side to him."

"Jingyun, you despise me." Shen Yunting's tone revealed deep grievance.

Qu Jingyun trembled upon hearing this.

He quickly interjected, "That's not true. Look at yourself, you'd probably charm countless women walking down the street."

“There are quite a few people in the capital who want to marry you. Even if you are no longer useful, people will still flock to you.”

As Qu Jingyun spoke, her gaze involuntarily fell on Shen Yunting's lower body.

The words Shen Yunting had said that day when he refused the arranged marriage kept replaying in her mind, and she couldn't help but chuckle softly.

Seeing her like this, Shen Yunting silently hugged her tighter, and then said, "I knew Jingyun was disgusted with me."

“I’m old and useless now, and I might even pass away before Jingyun, so I won’t be able to take care of you anymore.”

"It would be better to let you go and let you find someone..."

At this point, Qu Jingyun immediately became angry.

He growled in dissatisfaction, "What nonsense are you spouting?"

Shen Yunting kept his head down, as if he were shrouded in shadow, and said to himself, "I know everything. For your own good, I should let you leave."

Qu Jingyun could no longer bear it. She waited for Shen Yunting's face and forced him to look at her.

She hurriedly retorted, "What nonsense are you talking about? I only want you in this world, and who said you're useless? Your body is stronger than that of an average young man, and you keep me going every day. You're underestimating yourself too much."

"I know that best. I'll get angry if you keep talking nonsense like that."

"Really?" Shen Yunting looked at Qu Jingyun with some uncertainty.

"Of course it's true." Qu Jingyun nodded eagerly, her ears burning.

But he still spoke with unwavering determination: "You are exceptionally talented and wonderful. I only recognize you as my equal; no one else will do."

Before he could finish speaking, a smile appeared on Shen Yunting's face.

His eyes revealed a sense of smug satisfaction.

Now, what didn't Qu Jingyun understand? She had clearly been tricked by the other party.

Dissatisfied, he clenched his fist and punched Shen Yunting in the chest.

"Do you know how scared I was just now? I really thought I had hurt you with my words. You went too far, how dare you play me like that."

Shen Yunting easily grasped her fist and gently pulled her into his arms.

He leaned close to Qu Jingyun's ear and teased with a smile, "I didn't know that you thought I was so amazing in Madam's eyes."

"In that case, I certainly cannot let Madam down, and I absolutely cannot disappoint her."

After saying this, Shen Yunting bent down, picked up Qu Jingyun, and carried her to the bedside.

Qu Jingyun exclaimed in surprise and quickly said, "Put me down right away."

"That won't do. I was feeling quite inferior just now, and I have to prove myself."

A smile appeared on Shen Yunting's lips as he laid the person flat on the bed and leaned over to him.

This silenced Qu Jingyun, leaving only her soft moans in her ears.

The wind and rain didn't subside until midnight.

Qu Jingyun nestled in Shen Yunting's arms, her eyes closed, breathing softly.

Shen Yunting lowered his head and kissed her forehead, feeling a surge of satisfaction.

He lowered his voice and said, "I'm a selfish person. There's only one reason why I'd leave you, and that's because you don't love me anymore."

"Nothing can keep you away from me except this. Even when I get really old, I will never let go."

He simply couldn't believe the sight of Qu Jingyun being held in another man's arms.

He would go crazy!

When no one was watching, Qu Jingyun slowly curled her lips into a satisfied smile.

This is the man she chose.

The next day, five thousand soldiers marched towards the border in a grand procession, with a slender figure hidden among them, unnoticed by anyone.

Zhang Hu, mounted on his warhorse, looked at the imposing figure ahead, a ruthless glint in his eyes.
