Chapter 39 A Rain

Chapter 39 A Rain

This night was exceptionally long.

When Qiu Ling came to her senses, she realized that her fingers were trembling.

Having been a police officer for several years, Qiu Ling has been involved in all sorts of cases due to her expertise. She has seen everything from gruesome corpses to inhuman killers. She thought she had developed a strong heart. However, tonight, the contents of this USB drive sent a chill down her spine.

A chill seeped out from the top of my head, spreading throughout my body along my blood vessels and meridians.

The USB drive was almost entirely filled with photos, and there was also a video that was clearly taken secretly.

These photos and videos all feature girls, who are kept like livestock in narrow, enclosed rooms.

The girls in the photos are also changing; old faces often disappear while new faces join.

Most of them had blank stares and numb expressions, leaning against the wall one after another.

Qiu Ling had seen similar scenes before. The crackdown on prostitution and organized crime had never stopped. She had also seen those who were arrested for organizing group prostitution in private. However, these girls were clearly not like that.

In the only video, the girl, who looked to be only sixteen or seventeen, knelt on the ground with a swollen right cheek and bloodshot eyes, tears streaming down her face, pleading helplessly: "Please, let me go. My parents only have me as their daughter. Please don't sell me. Please, don't sell me. Let me go. I won't tell anyone..."

The next second, a burly man grabbed the girl by the hair, lifted her head, and slapped her face seven or eight times.

"Cry, I'll teach you to cry!" The man's fierce voice sounded like a demon.

The video, which lasted only about twenty seconds, ends here.

This group of people is actually trafficking people!

When Lu Yanhe woke up, he heard the sound of pattering rain outside the window.

He got up and opened the curtains.

Sure enough, it was raining outside.

The sky was dark, with only a thin layer of light, and the whole world disappeared in the rain, leaving only a blurry outline.

The alarm clock rang right on time.

Lu Yanhe turned off the alarm clock and went to brush his teeth and wash his face.

Halfway through the process, Yan Liang walked in.

"Good morning." He greeted Lu Yanhe with a sleepy look in his eyes and went into the restroom.

"Good morning," Lu Yanhe mumbled in response.

Rinse your mouth and wash your face.

Yan Liang opened the door and said, "It's raining. We can't run today."

"Hmm, you're up so early for nothing. Why don't you go back to sleep?"

"I'm not going to sleep, I'm going to practice some other sports," Yan Liang said.

Lu Yanhe looked at him with respect and said, "You're amazing."

Yan Liang's dedication and self-discipline in exercising have remained unchanged for years.

In reality, although Yan Liang insisted on exercising every day, his muscles were not particularly bulky.

His streamlined muscles were something that Li Zhibai had always envied.

Of course, it's just envy.

If you want Li Zhibai, who is lazy to the extreme, to exercise, you would have to tell him that there is a very beautiful girl at the entrance of the community, then he would run there as fast as he could.

Yan Liang asked, "It's raining so hard, are you still going to school today?"

“Yes, of course I’ll go,” Lu Yanhe said. “I have no reason not to go to school now.”

He went out with an umbrella.

After the rain, the weather seemed to cool down, dispelling the persistent heat of the past few days.

But one of the annoying things about rain is that no matter how carefully you walk, you'll find your shoes get wet without you even realizing it.

When Lu Yanhe boarded the bus, he felt water seeping in, and his socks seemed a little wet.

He sat down in the back, put his umbrella under the seat, put on his headphones, and listened to English.

Wet shoes are very uncomfortable to wear.

Lu Yanhe sighed, suppressing his discomfort, and continued listening to English.

The bus slowly came to a stop at the bus stop.

Lu Yanhe subconsciously looked up.

He belatedly realized that he was curious whether the woman named He Ting had come up.

Because she got on at this stop yesterday.

But she wasn't among the people getting on the bus.

She wasn't among the people boarding at any of the subsequent stops.

Upon arriving at the school, Lu Yanhe got out of the car, opened his umbrella, and felt inexplicably disappointed.

So after she handed him the USB drive, she just left. How could she be sure he would actually give the USB drive to Officer Qiu?

As Lu Yanhe pondered this matter, something suddenly hit his umbrella.

He looked up.

Li Pengfei appeared to his left with a bright smile.

He just hit Lu Yanhe's umbrella with his umbrella.

"Good morning," Lu Yanhe greeted.

"Did you watch the game last night?" Li Pengfei asked. "Lorraine vs. Marseille."

"I haven't looked at it," Lu Yanhe shook his head. "I'm reading a book."

Li Pengfei gasped: "You've been reading the whole time?"

“Yes.” Lu Yanhe nodded.

Li Pengfei stared at him exaggeratedly: "Damn, really?"

"real."

Li Pengfei: "I thought that studying for two hours was already unprecedented, and my dad was stunned and asked me what happened."

Lu Yanhe: "...Your dad is pretty funny."

“Otherwise, my dad never expected me to study hard,” Li Pengfei said. “It’s unbelievable. Even when I’m studying, he interrogates me and asks what triggered me.”

"So what are your dad's plans for you? If you don't go to university?" Lu Yanhe asked.

“Send me abroad, of course. Not to the kind of school Chu Saiying went to. I know my own limitations; I can only go to some low-ranking university,” Li Pengfei said nonchalantly. “Then I’ll come back after graduating and work at my dad’s company to continue coasting along.”

Lu Yanhe: "With a mine at home, you have nothing to worry about."

“That’s what I told my dad too. When I was in junior high, my dad asked me what I wanted to do in the future if I didn’t study hard. I said I could live off my parents,” Li Pengfei said. “Besides, my brother went to Zhenhua University anyway, so someone will inherit the family business. Isn’t it better for me to live off my parents? If I were that capable, I would be competing with my brother for the business.”

Lu Yanhe: "...So your brother should thank you for giving up on yourself and being ignorant?"

“It’s not that you can’t say that,” Li Pengfei nodded affirmatively. “I find it really interesting to talk to you; I can hear some honest things from you.”

Lu Yanhe: "Although you are praising me, I still feel a little insulted."

Li Pengfei chuckled and said, "But now I've made a bet with Chen Qin, right? If I surpass you in the next exam, it will at least prove that I still have the ability, I'm just too lazy to work hard, right?"

"You have to surpass me first before you say that," Lu Yanhe smiled.
