Chapter 78 Old Lin and Old Chen

Chapter 78 Old Lin and Old Chen

"Lu Yanhe, Teacher Lin wants you to go to her office." Someone suddenly came over and said.

Lu Yanhe was taken aback. "Huh? Now?"

The man nodded: "Teacher Lin said to let me know when I saw you."

Lu Yanhe went to find Lin Jue, completely bewildered.

To his surprise, Lin Jue gave him yesterday's lecture notes.

"Take a look at it yourself, and then give it back to me," Lin Jue said. "Don't lose it, okay? This is the only copy I have."

Lu Yanhe felt a mix of emotions, and a strange sense of gratitude welled up in his heart.

"Thank you, Teacher Lin. I'll return it to you after I finish reading it today."

After he left Lin Jue's office, he was still a little dazed, completely not expecting Lin Jue to do this.

-

In the office, the other teachers glanced at Lin Jue and asked, "Teacher Lin, isn't that student your class's star student? Why did you give him the handouts? Anyway, he doesn't need to get such high scores. Do you think he'll even look at them? You painstakingly compiled them, and you wouldn't even give them to your class representative when they asked for a copy."

Lin Jue sighed and said, "I don't know if he will read it, but this kid is the first student in his class to come to me and say that he wants to give it his all and get a good score on the college entrance exam. I'm about to retire, so I'll help as many people as I can."

"How are his grades? I remember they were terrible, always at the bottom of the grade. Actually, it doesn't matter if a student like him doesn't get into university. He has no intention of studying properly. Look at Yan Liang in my class. He hasn't come to school for several weeks. When we ask him, he says he's going to take the art exam and will make up for the academic score later. What can we say? His path is paved straight and wide. We don't need to worry about him."

Lin Jue smiled.

"No matter if he's a celebrity or whoever he is, since he's come to me and calls me Teacher Lin, he's my student. How can I, as his teacher, not support him when he comes to me?"

"Then why didn't you give it to your class representative when they asked you for it? That's showing favoritism."

"You think it was that silly boy who wanted it? He gets 100 on every geography test, why would he need my handouts? It was just some students in his class stirring things up so he would come to me for them to cram for the final exam. His mind isn't on the right track at all. Even if I knew they were just trying to cram at the last minute, I would still be happy to give them to them. But those cowards, they only know how to encourage my easy-going, thin-skinned class representative to come and ask for them. I'm not going to put up with those people."

Lin Jue seemed to remember something and started laughing.

She rarely smiles so gently and warmly in class; she usually gives a cold laugh or a serious smile.

"Looking at these students, each one so different, it really touches my heart. I'm reluctant to retire."

-

Lu Yanhe immediately read through Lin Jue's lecture notes, then quickly picked out the content he needed and copied it down.

What are you doing?

As soon as Li Pengfei arrived, he immediately leaned over.

Lu Yanhe: "Don't bother me, I'm catching up on yesterday's geography notes."

"Wow," Li Pengfei asked, "whose notes are these? They're so solid."

Lu Yanhe remained silent.

Lin Jue was giving him special treatment, and he didn't want to cause trouble for himself, as other classmates might feel uncomfortable if they found out.

Li Pengfei: "Let me tell you, my dad asked me to ask you again, are you free this Saturday? He wants me to invite you to my house for dinner."

"Don't mess with me, it's too embarrassing, I'm not going." Lu Yanhe refused outright.

"What's so embarrassing about that?" Li Pengfei said, puzzled. "You look down on me? You don't want to come to my house?"

“…” Lu Yanhe sighed, “Let’s discuss it again.”

"Then I'll take that as a yes." Li Pengfei chuckled. "Don't be nervous. My dad just wants to thank you and also wants to earnestly ask you to help me study. You wouldn't believe it, but when my dad heard how much you've improved, his eyes lit up. He insisted on giving you a red envelope and asking you to teach me."

"No way, I can't pull you." Lu Yanhe immediately shook his head.

“Let him dream on. Let me tell you, he won’t give up until he sees my college entrance exam score.” Li Pengfei sighed. “To be honest, my poor grades are partly because he’s too good at making money, which makes my future stress-free, and partly because my brother is too outstanding, which makes me feel no pressure to achieve my goal of becoming a dragon among men.”

"You'd better watch out or you'll get put in a sack and beaten to death," Lu Yanhe quipped.

"Am I wrong?"

“That makes sense, but it’s inhumane.” Lu Yanhe said righteously, “Go back to your own book and don’t bother me. I told you I’m busy.”

Li Pengfei clicked his tongue twice.

"Let's learn from you."

He sat down in his seat, stretched out his legs, took out a vernacular version of "Zizhi Tongjian" and started reading while yawning.

-

The second class was English.

After finishing his class, Old Chen tapped on the table and said, "I'll be giving a reading comprehension test for fifteen minutes during tonight's self-study session."

Immediately, wails erupted from the entire class.

"Stop yelling, I'm not raising pigs." Old Chen accurately retorted, "When it comes to English, you absolutely mustn't spend a lot of time memorizing vocabulary. For all the words, just follow the daily dictation exercises and quizzes I assign. Only through consistent effort will they truly stick in your heads. Spending half an hour or an hour during evening self-study to memorize dozens of words at once is a waste of time and you won't even remember them. Follow me, and you'll master vocabulary and grammar. It's not too late to start now. Getting 130 or 140 is difficult, but getting over 100 is quite easy, students."

A group of groans immediately started groaning excitedly.

"I can see that you guys are different these days. You've put your minds to it, and your spelling accuracy has improved a lot." Old Chen gave a final compliment, then walked away gracefully, waving goodbye as he left the classroom.

"Old Chen is so handsome!" Li Pengfei said jealously. "Look at the girls in our class, their eyes are practically sparkling!"

Lu Yanhe laughed and said, "Old Chen is handsome, after all. Which English teacher would dare to ask students not to spend time memorizing words during evening self-study? They would be eager for students to spend more time on their subject."

"The main thing is that Lao Chen is really awesome. Damn, he often runs into the classroom in the middle of the day and does a quick cramming session, making us memorize four or five words. And he always checks on me."

Lu Yanhe smiled but remained silent.

He actually knew why Lao Chen did this.

English and Chinese are very similar; both require a lot of accumulation.

You can memorize hundreds of words in one go, get dizzy and lightheaded, and then forget them the next day after a good night's sleep.

It's better to do what Lao Chen does: cram for yourself, memorize two words in one minute, and if you can't remember them in one minute, you have to obediently copy them five times as punishment.

After going through the whole process, I remember those two words perfectly.

Especially if you find something you can't recall during a last-minute cramming session, copy it five times; the impression won't be any deeper.
