Chapter 80 Things at School
"Here you go." Lu Yanhe returned the notebook to Bai Yu.
Bai Yu immediately took it into her hands, lowered her head, and her eyes were red.
Lin Yu stayed by her side and gently patted her back.
Lu Yanhe then looked at Luo Zicheng again.
"You got hit? Who hit you?" His gaze was like two rays as he looked at Luo Zicheng. At this moment, everyone around felt that Lu Yanhe's aura had changed, becoming inexplicably awe-inspiring. "I slapped your head to wake you up. You, a man, bully a girl, and you have the nerve to say that? You're so smug because Bai Yu couldn't get her notebook, aren't you? If you're so capable, go and take Li Pengfei's notebook and let him try to take it from you. Then you'll know what it means to be hit."
Luo Zicheng's face flushed red with humiliation from Lu Yanhe's words, but he couldn't utter a single word in rebuttal.
"You have the nerve to say that Teacher Liu would scold Bai Yu but not you? Do you think Teacher Liu is your mother, indiscriminately judging right and wrong?" Lu Yanhe's words were like a spray of sulfuric acid, each one burning a hole in Luo Zicheng's heart. "Go and complain to Teacher Liu right now, tell her that Bai Yu was writing a novel, and you did it for her own good, to encourage her to study hard, so you took her notebook and deliberately read certain passages aloud to everyone in front of them. You weren't trying to embarrass Bai Yu; you wanted her to feel ashamed and then study harder. If you dare to say something like that, then I might admire you a little more. Do you dare?"
Luo Zicheng said angrily, "Enough! Are you sick? What does this have to do with you? I've put up with you for too long!"
The expressions of the others looking at Luo Zicheng changed.
At first, many onlookers were unaware of the cause and effect, and did not realize how excessive Luo Zicheng's actions were. However, after Lu Yanhe's words, they all came to their senses.
This matter is not as simple as a fight between classmates.
"Luo Zicheng, apologize to Bai Yu." Someone said, "I thought you two were just joking, but I didn't expect you to deliberately humiliate her."
“Yeah, you have no class,” someone immediately chimed in.
Luo Zicheng stared at these people in disbelief, and for a moment he seemed to be so angry that he almost fainted.
Weren't you the ones laughing the most before?
Now it seems he's the only one who's shameless?!
Li Pengfei crossed his arms and said in a threatening tone, "Did you hear that? The eyes of the masses are discerning. The masses are calling for you to apologize. Apologize now!"
Luo Zicheng's face turned so red it looked like it was about to bleed.
He turned around angrily and went back to his seat.
Li Pengfei immediately spat, "Shameless scoundrel."
Just then, Chen Qin, who had just returned from the restroom, came in through the front door. Hearing Li Pengfei's words, he looked bewildered and asked, "Who are you cursing now?"
Li Pengfei: "Is there anyone else in our class who can live up to these four words?"
Chen Qin was completely confused and had no idea what Li Pengfei was talking about.
-
"Have you noticed that Lu Yanhe has changed a lot lately?" Li Xiang whispered to Xu Zijun. "He used to never speak in class, let alone stand up for others. I feel like he used to be the one who would be bullied."
Li Xiang was one of the few people Xu Zijun was relatively close to in the class. They both came from rural towns, so there wasn't much pressure in their relationship.
Xu Zijun nodded and said, "There have been significant changes."
"He's so handsome now. Before, although he was good-looking, I felt he had no charm at all. He was timid and didn't seem like a man at all. Now, every gesture and even a casual smile makes him so handsome." Li Xiang said, her eyes shining, her face showing a shy smile of girlish affection.
Xu Zijun asked, "You've fallen for him?"
"A little bit," Li Xiang said, then laughed shyly. "Although I know he definitely won't like me."
"You're in your final year of high school, don't let these things distract you," Xu Zijun advised.
Li Xiang's grades weren't as good as Xu Zijun's; she was around 100th in her grade, which was on the borderline of getting into a top-tier university.
Li Xiang's face fell, and she said, "You're so annoying, you're such a spoilsport!"
Xu Zijun didn't say anything more.
After a while, Li Xiang suddenly remembered something and said, "By the way, did Teacher Liu look for you?"
"No, why would she want to see me?"
Li Xiang wore a mysterious expression and even turned her head to look around to make sure no one was eavesdropping before whispering in Xu Zijun's ear, "I heard that Teacher Liu talked to Zheng Meiqi about the guaranteed admission and independent enrollment recommendations. Your grades are also very good, so Teacher Liu will probably talk to you about this soon too."
Recommended admission and independent enrollment quotas are methods used by some top universities to compete for the best students in advance. The former mainly considers academic performance and overall quality, while the latter is generally aimed at students who have outstanding achievements in a certain major.
Xu Zijun is generally able to consistently rank in the top 20 of her grade. In her case, she is usually able to get a spot through the self-enrollment program.
Zhenhua and Yuming have no hope, but the chances are much higher for relatively less prestigious universities.
Upon hearing Li Xiang's words, Xu Zijun's previously calm demeanor began to waver.
Previously, people said that guaranteed admission and independent enrollment were privileges for children from wealthy and powerful families, and had nothing to do with students like her from small towns who had no background. But after she arrived at No. 13 Middle School, she heard many senior students say that the school's guaranteed admission and independent enrollment quotas were entirely based on grade ranking, and as long as you had good grades, you had a chance.
Sure enough, after school in the afternoon, Liu Qin came to the classroom to find her. When she saw her there, she called her to the office.
There was no one else in the office except for a boy in a school uniform who was sitting in a corner with his back to them, copying something.
Liu Qin cut to the chase: "Zijun, I called you here to talk about the independent admission recommendation quota. Generally, if you get a quota, you can skip the preliminary test and go directly to the retest. The chances of getting a spot in the independent admission program are very high. Based on your scores in the key exams, you are ranked 22nd in your grade. The universities you can get recommendation quotas from are Anhua University, Zhongli University, and Chuanhe University. There's no need to consider universities worse than these three. Do you want to participate in the independent admission program?"
Xu Zijun nodded and said, "I want to."
There is only one chance to take the college entrance examination. No one knows how she will perform on that day, whether it will be good or bad.
Self-enrollment is like having a safety net; even if you fail the college entrance exam, you still have a backup school.
Liu Qin said, "I have to explain to you that if you pass the independent enrollment of one of these three universities, they will require you to sign an agreement with them. No matter how you do in the college entrance examination, as long as you reach the first-tier university admission line, you must go to that university, even if you end up getting into Yuming University."
Xu Zijun was taken aback. "Huh?"
This caught her completely off guard.
