Chapter 85 Setting a Trap

Chapter 85 Setting a Trap

The video they were watching on site featured two interns.

Interns A and B were both competing for the same project. In the end, A demonstrated stronger abilities than B, and it was clear that the project would go to A.

However, things did not go as everyone expected.

B's boss approached A, offering him a chance to train at headquarters in exchange for his withdrawal from the competition for this project.

If A withdraws, the project will naturally fall to B.

The controversy stems from this incident.

A was caught in a dilemma and hesitation.

Today's guests include actor Chen Jiping, who became a sensation last year with a spy drama, and Chen Bing, a relatively well-known stand-up comedian in recent years. The debate mainly revolves around these two.

Chen Bing said, “This is so unfair. It was A and B competing, but B’s boss interfered and tempted A to give up the project by offering a training opportunity at headquarters. Do you know how I felt? It’s like when we were kids, we worked so hard to prepare for a stage performance, and in the end, another classmate took the opportunity away from us. It wasn’t because that classmate’s performance was better than ours, or for any other reason, but simply because that classmate’s parents talked to the teacher and gave gifts. So, we lost the opportunity.”

“I think these two things are somewhat different in nature,” Chen Jiping said. “In the example you just gave, Chen Bing, you were completely unaware, or rather, you were deprived of your right to take the stage under completely passive circumstances, which is indeed unfair. But what we just saw clearly shows that although B’s superior’s methods were not honorable, he did not deprive A of the opportunity behind the scenes. He simply offered A another equally tempting opportunity and made A give it up voluntarily. This kind of situation is all too common in our lives.”

Chen Bing nodded: "Teacher Chen, you're right, but have you considered whether an opportunity to participate in a project and an opportunity to learn at headquarters are of equal value? It seems that A has been given a choice, but can A really make a choice that aligns with his inner feelings?"

Why not?

“Because B’s supervisor is not only B’s supervisor, but also the company’s leader, and A is just a small intern, would he dare to refuse the choice made by the company leader?” Chen Bing said, “The seemingly fair choice that B’s supervisor makes to A actually carries an undisclosed cost of offending him. If A does not accept B’s supervisor’s option, A risks offending B. Under this psychological pressure, do you still think this choice is fair?”

“It’s unfair, but there are too many unfair choices like this in life.” Chen Jiping shook his head. “You said it yourself, there’s only the risk of offending someone. I’m not saying this is just wishful thinking, because the risk of offending someone really exists. But if we want to pursue an absolutely fair workplace environment that is not influenced by external factors, it’s simply unrealistic. Before I became an actor, I also worked in a company and faced the same situation. To be honest, this is nothing. At least Boss B put all of this out in the open and didn’t do anything underhanded. The kind of example you gave is the real norm in the workplace.”

"Does Professor Chen mean that B's boss is actually a great philanthropist?" Chen Bing asked incredulously.

Chen Jiping: "Don't misunderstand me. I mean, compared to the real workplace, this situation is not unfair at all. At least A has the opportunity to make a choice."

The two then began an argument that had no value in being discussed.

However, at this moment, Lu Yanhe was distracted.

He thought of someone.

Xu Zijun.

Why did she give up her recommendation quota for independent enrollment?

Which normal student would give up this opportunity?

Behind every incomprehensible choice, does the same dilemma of choice also exist?

Suddenly, a loud "bang" startled Lu Yanhe from his reverie.

He was startled and came to his senses.

Chen Jiping, unaware of what was happening, slammed his hand on the table and stood up angrily.

"I'm going to the restroom."

He left the studio with a very unpleasant expression.

Chen Bing, with her arms crossed, turned her back to Chen Jiping, clearly annoyed.

The directors all looked grim.

These guests' speeches were already written by the scriptwriters; they should have just read from the script. Instead, they insisted on improvising, and now they're arguing so heatedly that they can't stop.

Speechless.

The host, Jiang Xin, smiled and tried to smooth things over: "That's how it is when we're filming observational programs like this. The guests are very easy to get into the situation and get emotional. Let's all take a break for now."

She said to Lu Yanhe, "Yanhe, is this your first time recording a variety show like this?"

Lu Yanhe nodded.

Jiang Xin said, "You're still in high school. Can you understand what everyone was discussing just now?"

Lu Yanhe was unsure how to answer.

If he can't understand, why did the production team invite him to the show?

He pursed his lips and said, "Uh, I understand."

Jiang Xin immediately asked, "Then which of the two Professor Chens do you think makes sense?"

Lu Yanhe frowned subconsciously, thinking there was something wrong with the host. Although Chen Jiping had stormed off, Chen Bing was still sitting there. If she asked him directly who was right, what would he say?

Saying one thing will offend the other.

He didn't reply, but then, as if suddenly remembering something, asked, "Are we going to continue recording our show? If I could take a break, I'd like to go to the restroom."

The production team nodded, indicating that he could go.

Lu Yanhe ran away immediately.

Jiang Xin watched Lu Yanhe's retreating figure and thought to herself, "I didn't manage to set a trap."

This kid is a bit cautious.

Afterwards, the production team invited Chen Jiping back, and the guests continued to act out a facade of harmony while harboring underlying discord, following the script.

At least the show was barely finished being recorded.

Lu Yanhe thanked the production crew and left immediately.

Jiang Xin returned to her dressing room, locked the door, and called Zhou Ping'an.

"Hey, Ping An, I didn't do a good job on the thing you asked me to do," Jiang Xin said helplessly. "That kid you brought along is quite cunning. I had just set a trap when he ran away. I'm sorry, I couldn't help you with this."

Zhou Ping'an chuckled and said, "It's nothing. I just wanted to ask you for help so I could lend a hand. If it doesn't work out, it's fine."

"However, I think this kid is quite sensible. Why would you want him to deliberately cause trouble? What did he do to offend you?"

“He didn’t offend me, he offended someone else. I was just doing someone else’s job. He caused trouble, so I had a legitimate reason to kick him out.” Zhou Pingan sighed helplessly. “Everything was going smoothly and we were just waiting for him to leave, but then this incident of him doing a good deed came up. If he didn’t have some reason to do it, we wouldn’t be able to kick him out directly.”
