Chapter 783 Awards Ceremony and New Developments in the Script
Two world-renowned directors are complaining about the difficulty of finding investment.
Lu Yanhe was quite surprised. However, he no longer took it for granted that a big-name director could easily find investment.
In the business world, if you don't make money, even someone like Ang Lee can't withstand repeated failures.
Zeno Stevens said, "Investors still value movie stars very much. If there are no movie stars to star in, it is difficult to find investment. But if movie stars are found to act, the salary is very high, and it is even more difficult to find investment. It is a vicious cycle with no solution."
Eugene Moreno suddenly smiled and said, "Zeno, you can go to China to look for investment. I've heard that Chinese film companies are very willing to invest in foreign directors."
Lu Yanhe frowned slightly.
Not only him, but even Sandra Vickers glanced at Eugene Moreno with some surprise, before subtly concealing her disgust.
Lu Yanhe smiled and said to Zeno Stevens, "Zeno, my production company, Linghe, does invest in some art films every year. If you need, we can talk about it in detail later."
Zeno Stevens looked surprised, and somewhat delighted.
"Really?"
“Yes.” Lu Yanhe nodded. “If it’s a big production, we might not have enough funds to support it. But for art films, we have a budget to invest in them, as long as it’s suitable.”
Zeno Stevens immediately broke into a bright smile.
"Very good."
Eugene Orenho was also somewhat surprised.
He said, "Zeno, your movie is still several million dollars short of funding, right? Lu, does Linghe have that much money?"
Lu Yanhe smiled somewhat embarrassedly and said, "Fortunately, all the films produced by Linghe have been profitable, so we do have ample funds."
Eugene Aurelius: "..."
Lu Yanhe said, "In fact, Eugene, you are right about one thing. Many film companies in China are very willing to invest in new works by art film directors like you. Profit is secondary; the main thing is to support real artists. You are welcome to come to China."
When Lu Yanhe spoke, Eugene Orenho's expression visibly paused.
Eugene Orenho wasn't really praising Chinese film companies just now—
However, Lu Yanhe's words, spoken through a pretext, left Eugene Aurelino speechless.
Sandra Vickers said, "Next year, the Jose Film Festival will be held in China, so you can go and meet with Chinese film companies."
Her words were full of sarcasm.
Lu Yanhe smiled at Sandra Vickery.
-
The dialogue went very smoothly.
Eugene Aureliano also stopped making sarcastic remarks in public.
They are all masters of film, and they each know what to say in what situation.
During the Q&A session, an audience member asked Lu Yanhe, "As the chairman of the selection committee for the next José Sejour de la Ville de José Film Festival, will you favor Chinese films?"
Lu Yanhe was taken aback.
Sandra Vickers laughed and said, "Are we at the BiCarlo Film Festival now?"
She tried to smooth things over.
At this moment, Eugene Auréno picked up the microphone and said, "Actually, as a film director, I'd also like to know the answer to this question."
Lu Yanhe slightly raised his eyebrows and picked up the microphone.
"I'm thinking about whether to say something nice but not particularly impressive, or to express my thoughts as sincerely as possible." He smiled and looked at Eugene Auréno. "Just like Eugene remarked backstage, many art films struggle to find investment, but they can try in China because Chinese film companies are now very willing to invest in genuine art films. When I heard Eugene say that, as a Chinese filmmaker, I felt very proud. Sincere words always give us strength."
Eugene Aureliano's face stiffened.
Lu Yanhe: "So, as a filmmaker, I feel that no matter what, I have to tell the truth. And the truth is, I am a Chinese filmmaker. Producer Wu Yang decided to make the Jose Film Festival travel around the world and will look for different people all over the world to serve as chairpersons of the selection committee. The purpose is to discover good films from different places, good films that have been overlooked due to geographical reasons. One of my responsibilities is to discover good Chinese films that have been overlooked due to geographical reasons. So, whether I have any bias is an unquestionable question for any filmmaker."
"So, would I, just because I'm a Chinese filmmaker, disregard the quality of a film, ignore its artistry and content, and squeeze out good films from other countries simply because it's a Chinese film? I think none of us on this stage—those of us who have been given honor and influence by this industry—would do such a low-level thing," Lu Yanhe said with a smile. "Ladies and gentlemen, being the honorary chairman of the film selection committee is only a temporary job. As filmmakers, our love for the entire film industry and our hope that it will get better and better is a lifelong commitment."
Sandra Wiggins led the applause.
Eugene Orenho could only join in the applause.
-
This dialogue was a great success from any perspective.
In particular, Lu Yanhe's answer was featured as a headline by almost all film media outlets.
This is also because it does have news dissemination value.
The "unexpected surprise" was Eugene Aureliano's "seeking investment from Chinese film companies," which Lu Yanhe cited, leading some European and American media and film companies to view Eugene Aureliano as a "traitor."
Eugene Orenho was completely speechless, unable to express his bitterness.
For Lu Yanhe, the unexpected bonus of this dialogue was that Sandra Wiggins took the initiative to befriend him after the event, saying that if he needed her in the future, no matter the size of the role, he could contact her, and she was willing to participate in his film projects.
For an actress of Sandra Vickers' stature, making such a statement is an obvious gesture of goodwill.
Although Sandra Vickers is not a superstar, actresses like Helen Mirren and Emma Thompson represent the highest level of the film industry and are pillars of mainstream awards.
They themselves may find it difficult to receive another Oscar nomination, but their praise and support can bring a young actor directly into the mainstream.
This is the industry influence they have accumulated.
Therefore, Sandra Vickers' willingness to extend such an olive branch is still commendable, even though Lu Yanhe's current status is no longer that of a newcomer who needs others' support.
So many Hollywood actors have inquired about Lu Yanhe's scripts, hoping to find a good role, but there are very few actors who directly express interest in working with Lu Yanhe on any project.
She's the first actress of Sandra Vickers' caliber.
Lu Yanhe said nothing and directly invited Sandra Vickers to attend the Jose Film Festival to be held in Yuming next year.
Lu Yanhe hadn't noticed anything else during this conversation, but he fully appreciated Sandra Wichie's goodwill towards him.
Lu Yanhe particularly noticed Sandra Vickers's disgust at Eugene Moreno's satirical remarks about Chinese film companies.
-
Then came the awards ceremony.
Lu Yanhe served as the presenter for the Best Actress award.
On that day, a total of eight film crews received recall notices.
Of the three Chinese-language films nominated for the main competition at the Picardo Film Festival, one has received a recall notice.
"Hesitant View of Life" is a film directed by Wang Shuai and starring Yu Mengling and others.
Lu Yanhe immediately felt a pang of regret. He had thought that Liu Teli, with his outstanding performance in "On the Xunyang River," had a chance to compete for Best Actor, but it seemed that the quality of the film itself had dragged him down.
Lu Yanhe sent a message to Liu Teli, saying: "Teacher Liu, after watching 'On the Xunyang River,' many foreign friends have been asking me who the male lead of this movie is. I told them it's the thief from 'Home Alone,' and they were shocked. Sandra Vickers also praised your performance. I really hope to see more of you at international film festivals in the future. If you come across a good script or project and need investment, or if you need me to do anything, please contact me anytime."
Liu Teli: I was very touched to receive your message, thank you.
Lu Yanhe said: This year, "Home Alone 2" will hold a large-scale premiere ceremony and promotion around the world. I hope you can take the time to participate. Although it is very energy-consuming, I hope it can help you be recognized by more people around the world, and it can also make your other film and television works more popular.
Liu Teli: Okay, thank you for your help, Yan He.
-
Lu Yanhe put down his phone and asked Wang Biao, "Were there any awards given out earlier for 'A Hesitant View of Life'?"
Wang Biao shook his head and said, "Not yet."
They are backstage.
Lu Yanhe took a deep breath and said, "I hope 'A Hesitant View of Life' can win a major award."
Wang Biao said, "The program booklet for 'Hesitant Views on Life' doesn't have a high rating. Can it win a major award?"
“The festival’s score is just a reference; it represents the opinions of the media. But the Picardo Film Festival is a jury system, and it is the judges on stage who decide who wins the awards,” Lu Yanhe said. “If the judges like the film, it can still win an award even if the festival’s score is low.”
Wang Biao: "I also hope that Director Wang Shuai can win an award, as well as Cheng Ben. The two of them have really gone through a lot to make this movie. They sold their house and are struggling to make ends meet. They are now living in a rented room of only a few dozen square meters."
Lu Yanhe looked surprised.
"Yeah?"
“Yes.” Wang Biao nodded. “I read a report that said just that.”
Lu Yanhe thought for a moment and said, "Then you should talk to Wang Shuai's producer and tell him that if they have difficulty investing in their next film, they can contact me or contact Linghe directly."
Wang Biao said, "Brother Lu, you've already said this to them before. They said it when we were making 'The Wave,' but they didn't come to us when they were making 'Hesitant View of Life.'"
“Maybe they didn’t think I was serious when I said that,” Lu Yanhe said. “But it’s also possible that finding investment for ‘Hesitant View of Life’ went relatively smoothly, after all, they even managed to get Yu Mengling involved.”
“Yu Mengling only received 50,000 yuan in payment for filming ‘Hesitant View of Life’,” Wang Biao said. “She said this in an interview with a media outlet.”
Lu Yanhe looked shocked.
Yu Mengling?!
Even if she is not a star with high popularity or traffic, and even if "Hesitation on Life" is in dire need of funds, Yu Mengling should not only receive 50,000 yuan in remuneration.
At this moment, Lu Yanhe felt a deep respect for Meng Ling.
Then, the Best Actor award was announced.
At that moment, a thought flashed through Lu Yanhe's mind: it would be good if Cheng Ben won the award.
But unfortunately, no.
The award went to a Turkish actor.
As Lu Yanhe clapped, he also watched the live broadcast on the screen.
The video didn't show any of his acquaintances.
Lu Yanhe didn't know how Cheng Ben was feeling at that moment, but he must have been very disappointed.
Lu Yanhe sent Chen Yin a message: If there are any suitable projects in Linghe, and we can invite Cheng Ben to star in one, then let's invite him to star in one.
Chen Yin was surprised to receive such a message, but still replied: Okay.
Lu Yanhe: Pay the actor's fee according to the market price, don't try to lower the price.
Chen Yin: Okay.
Chen Yin asked: "Should Shi Huo sign him?"
Lu Yanhe: No, but he is a good actor.
Chen Yin: Okay, I understand.
At this time, instead of sending him a message to comfort and encourage him, it's better to do something practical.
-
Then, Lu Yanhe went on stage to present the Best Actress award.
At this year's Picardo Film Festival, there were three favorites for Best Actress, but unfortunately, Yu Mengling was not among them.
When Lu Yanhe took the stage, he was greeted with applause no less enthusiastic than that given to the award winners.
When Lu Yanhe presented the award, he said that he had an unparalleled connection with the Picardo Film Festival.
He very much hopes that he can bring his works to the Picardo Film Festival in the future and meet everyone.
After saying all this, Lu Yanhe opened the envelope and announced the winner of the Best Actress award.
However, when he opened the envelope and saw the name of the award recipient, he was first stunned, wondering if he had misread it, before confirming that there was no mistake.
A surprised and excited smile appeared on Lu Yanhe's face.
"The winner of the Best Actress award at this year's Picardo Film Festival is Yu Mengling, for her role in 'Hesitation in Life'."
He located the film crew of "Hesitation on Life" with his eyes and called out the name clearly and loudly.
Yu Mengling covered her mouth with both hands, her face showing disbelief.
Director Wang Shuai and Jiang Yue, who were standing nearby, cheered with delight at the first moment.
That's incredible.
Yu Mengling's performance in "Hesitation on Life" was indeed outstanding. However, the character she played, as well as the role's screen time and scope in the film, were not typical "award-winning" roles.
In the movie, she plays more of a supporting role.
Because the absolute protagonist of this movie is still Cheng Ben.
At film festivals, especially top-tier ones, the winners of Best Actor and Best Actress are usually the absolute leads in a film.
This is why Yu Mengling was not among the top contenders predicted by the media.
However, it is clear that Yu Mengling was very lucky.
She met a group of judges who liked her performance.
Lu Yanhe walked up the steps with a delighted expression, helped Yu Mengling, who was wearing high heels, onto the stage, and then presented her with the award.
Congratulations, Best Actress!
Yu Mengling was still in a state of surprise, shaking her head as if she were very moved, "My God, it feels like a dream."
Lu Yanhe gestured for Yu Mengling to go to the microphone to give her acceptance speech, saying, "Don't waste your time on me. This is your moment, this is your lucky place."
The last sentence was Lu Yanhe's reminder to Meng Ling.
Everyone knows—and Yu Mengling herself knows—that she is not a favorite for this award this year.
She won the award entirely because the jury in this year's main competition liked her performance.
"Thank you to the jury." Yu Mengling's first words were to thank the jury.
Lu Yanhe looked at Yu Mengling standing under the spotlight; her already aloof temperament made her appear even more otherworldly.
In recent years, Chinese actresses have become quite ruthless.
She has won four Best Actress awards at the four major international film festivals.
Chen Bige took two, Ning Xiulian took one, and now Yu Mengling has taken another.
Moreover, these four trophies include those from Venice, José, and Vilnius, leaving only Situu as the missing one.
It has a very high gold content.
Conversely, in the Best Actor category, it seems he was the only one to win at the Situ Film Festival, with no other awards.
I really hope that Professor Liu Teli can win another award.
I also hope that Chen Pinhe will never get it in his lifetime.
Lu Yanhe chuckled to himself after realizing this.
At this moment, I actually thought of Chen Pinhe.
hehe.
-
After Yu Mengling won the Best Actress award, "Hesitation on Life" did not win any other awards.
it is a pity.
Lu Yanhe also did not expect that after the crew was recalled, apart from the actors' individual awards, the film did not win a second award.
Even so, Wang Shuai was very happy.
His first thought was: "The book 'Hesitant View of Life' should sell well."
His second reaction was: "Great, great, Meng Ling's award will stimulate the box office much more than other awards."
Yu Mengling is indeed the biggest star of "Hesitation on Life," and the boost from her awards is the greatest.
That's not wrong.
It's just that it sounds really heartbreaking.
Lu Yanhe said to Wang Shuai, "The box office of 'Hesitant View of Life' will definitely be good in China."
Wang Shuai: "I hope it will do well at the box office, otherwise it will be even harder to find investment for the next movie."
Lu Yanhe said, "If you can't find any investment, come to me, and I'll invest."
He has already seen two of director Wang Shuai's works, "In the Wave" and "Hesitation on Life," in which Wang Shuai has demonstrated a strong sense of authorship.
It may not be a popular work in the general sense, but it has its own significance and value.
Lu Yanhe was also willing to support him.
Wang Shuai nodded and said okay.
“I’m serious,” Lu Yanhe said. “Director Wang, feel free to contact me anytime if you need me.”
-
The BiCarlo Film Festival has thus come to a close.
Lu Yanhe's stay at Anna's house is coming to an end.
This time, Lu Yanhe's deepest impression of Carlo was the two weeks he spent with Anna, chatting and spending time together.
Before leaving, Lu Yanhe treated Anna's family to another meal.
"I'm so sorry to have bothered you all during this time." Lu Yanhe was mainly speaking to Tucker and Anna's husband. "Please be sure to contact me in advance if you come to China in the future."
After saying that, Lu Yanhe said to Tucker, "It's the same for you in the United States. If you encounter any trouble, contact me. I will send you the contact information of the person in charge of my company in the United States later."
Takwa let out a strange cry and said, "How can you be so kind?!"
Lu Yanhe laughed and said, "Chinese people talk about fate. Meeting someone is fate. It's like meeting by chance. Although we met because of your mother, we can bypass your mother and do our own thing in the future."
Tucker nodded in agreement, giving his mother a wide grin.
"I think this is a good idea."
Lu Yanhe smiled.
Anna glared at him and said, "You're in America, so don't cause me any trouble! Focus on your college studies and don't mess around!"
Tucker winked.
-
Putting work aside, Lu Yanhe did receive a lot of care from Anna during his two weeks in Bicarlo.
This care is comprehensive.
Lu Yanhe also wanted to continue this close relationship that had developed after they became acquainted.
Lu Yanhe said to Anna, "Anna, I hope you can come to the Jose Film Festival next year, and also the Jump International Critics' Film Festival next year."
Anna shrugged and said, "I'll go if I have time; it's my job."
Lu Yanhe: "Then see you then! Oh, no, maybe we'll meet at another film festival soon."
As Anna said, attending film festivals is her job.
Besides writing film reviews, she is also an editor for a film magazine.
She smiled.
-
After leaving Bicarlo, Lu Yanhe couldn't return to China directly; he had to attend the premiere and promotion of "Misty 2" in the United States.
At the same time, upon learning that Lu Yanhe would be going to the United States, Maixine immediately contacted the Friends crew and arranged for the six members of Friends to appear on the show, which was one of the most popular talk shows in the United States with tens of millions of live viewers, to promote the new season of Friends which had already started airing.
Lu Yanhe ran into Sandra Vickers, who was also flying to the United States, at Bicarlo Airport.
"Hi~" Sandra Vickers warmly hugged Lu Yanhe, "Are you planning to go back to China?"
"No, I'm going to America to promote The Mist 2 and Friends."
“Oh, The Mist 2 is coming out.” Sandra Vickery nodded.
Lu Yanhe asked, "Sandra, have you seen 'Raise the Red Lantern'?"
Sandra Vickers shook her head. "No, but I've heard about the film. It won an award at the Seatour Film Festival and is making its way into awards season this year."
“Yes, this is a film I wrote,” Lu Yanhe said. “It’s a Chinese film. If you have time, may I invite you to watch it?”
Sandra Vickers smiled.
“Lu, since it’s your invitation, of course I’ll accept.”
“It’s my honor,” Lu Yanhe said happily. “My biggest gain from this trip to Biloca is getting to know you. I hope we can cooperate as soon as possible.”
Sandra Vickers said, "Of course, there will definitely be opportunities. I'm currently in talks for a movie, and I heard they've also invited you to star in it."
"Really?" Lu Yanhe looked surprised. "What movie?"
"The Cloud".
"Oh!" This is a Hollywood series he took on in the summer.
When "Hurricane 2" was released, his box office appeal among Asian communities was proven, leading many blockbuster franchises to hope that they could replicate Lu Yanhe's performance in "Hurricane 2".
In the end, Lu Yanhe chose "Cloud".
Sandra Vickers said, "They wanted me to play the witch in it, a role with only two scenes and no scenes with you."
“That would be such a pity,” Lu Yanhe said. “As an actor, I really hope to be able to act opposite you.”
Sandra Vickers: "Believe me, I'm looking forward to it too."
The two chatted for a while before preparing to board the plane.
At this moment, Chen Siqi suddenly sent him a message: I have an idea.
Lu Yanhe: What are your thoughts?
Chen Siqi said: Could we make "Jump Up" the official partner magazine of the Jose Film Festival?
Lu Yanhe was taken aback: Huh?
Chen Siqi said: I think this will also be an opportunity for "Jump Up" to truly become an international media outlet.
Lu Yanhe fell into deep thought.
-
To become the official partner magazine of an international film festival?
This is certainly not unusual.
For example, Vanity Fair is to the Oscars, and some film magazines are to some top film festivals.
In fact, although such magazines may only sell a few thousand copies, the price of advertising space is not cheap because they are backed by film festivals and are magazines that are completely targeted at a specific audience.
One book a day, and you can still earn a lot over a film festival.
But the most important thing is not the financial gain, but the influence.
After years of effort, "Jump Up" is now aiming to go global and become a worldwide magazine.
Aside from fashion magazines, no other arts and culture magazine has achieved this.
However, Chen Siqi has now developed four versions: Japanese, Korean, Thai, and English.
Although they did not achieve the market miracle of "going against the tide" in various places, they have at least gained a foothold.
Now, Chen Siqi is putting all her effort into increasing sales and opening up the market.
Collaborating with a top-tier global event like the Jose Film Festival would certainly be a great benefit in increasing the visibility of "Jump Up".
Even if there is a collaboration with a film festival, it can only be in the form of a special edition.
Lu Yanhe told Chen Siqi: I think it's possible, but it needs a good plan and a good approach that won't affect the magazine's positioning and will establish a high-end image for "Jump Up" among the general public.
Chen Siqi: I completely agree. That's exactly what I think too. But I need to hear your opinion first. If you mind that this is a bit of riding the wave of popularity, then I won't do it.
Lu Yanhe: If Jose can ride on my popularity, why can't I ride on Jose's popularity?
Chen Siqi: "Kiss"
Lu Yanhe: "Hug"
-
By the time we arrived in Los Angeles, night had already fallen.
Wan Qingqing was supposed to come to pick him up at the airport, but because "Flypaper" was nearing the end of filming and the crew was under the most pressure, Lu Yanhe told her not to come.
Darren Wilson arranged for someone to pick up Lu Yanhe.
The hotel we stayed at this time was arranged by D19.
The higher-ups at D19 even waited for him at the hotel to show how much they valued him by welcoming him.
Of course, as the lead actor in "Mist 2", it is understandable that Lu Yanhe receives such treatment.
At that time, director Wang Zhong and Chen Bige were also in the United States.
They're just not in Los Angeles.
They spent this period in the United States for the awards season trip of "Raise the Red Lantern".
Lu Yanhe was still thinking about when he could meet up with them.
When Lu Yanhe arrived at the hotel, he was starving.
I'm so hungry, I need to find food.
Lu Yanhe, along with Wang Biao, Zou Dong, and others, decided to find a Chinese restaurant nearby, but after walking several blocks, they still couldn't find one.
"What should we do?" Wang Biao asked. "Brother Lu, how about we go back to the hotel and order takeout? I have some restaurant contact information here."
There's really nothing more to say about an assistant reaching Wang Biao's level.
Lu Yanhe thought for a moment and said, "Okay, let's go back to the hotel to eat then."
Wang Biao made the call on his way back to the hotel.
Lu Yanhe had no idea how Wang Biao had managed to find a restaurant and have Chinese food delivered to them at 11 p.m. local time.
Lu Yanhe looked at Wang Biao in surprise.
Wang Biao smiled and boasted to Lu Yanhe, "This is a friend I met when I came to Los Angeles before. He is a chef himself, and he drove over to deliver it after he finished cooking."
Lu Yanhe: "No wonder, it's a private customization."
Wang Biao: "It's mainly because you have connections, Brother Lu, that people are willing to give you personalized customization."
Lu Yanhe had a full meal, and the food was delicious.
I hadn't had authentic Chinese food in a long time, and I was surprised to find it late at night after arriving in Los Angeles.
Lu Yanhe suddenly thought of something and asked, "Wang Biao, does your friend own a restaurant? Or is he a chef at one?"
“He works as a chef at a Chinese restaurant,” Wang Biao said. “What’s wrong, Brother Lu?”
“His cooking skills are quite good. I was thinking that I could ask him to cook dinner for me and invite some friends over. Aren’t Yan Liang and the others coming over too?”
Wang Biao said, "Sure, I'll ask him."
Lu Yanhe: "Well, if we can book his restaurant directly, we can do it there. If not, then forget it, we don't have any space."
Wang Biao nodded.
-
Lu Yanhe now enjoys organizing dinner parties.
Due to work, we rarely get together.
When we can get together, we should get together as much as possible.
Especially in foreign lands.
Darren Wilson arrived the next day.
He came here this time to discuss the scripts "The Notebook" and "The Fault in Our Stars" with Lu Yanhe.
Darren Wilson took these two scripts and contacted almost every company in Hollywood.
He brought back some very good news.
First of all, both scripts are in high demand.
Hollywood's major film studios were very interested, but Lu Yanhe's requirement to retain the film's copyright made them all hesitate.
None of these film companies wanted to be just an investor.
Of course, Lu Yanhe did not expect them to be content with being just an investor.
Darren Wilson said, "I'd pay five million dollars to buy the script for The Notebook."
Lu Yanhe looked surprised.
Five million dollars?
This price is truly the absolute limit.
Darren Wilson said, "However, Green Valley's demand was five million dollars, and the rights to The Notebook would then be in their hands, while Parameter proposed two million dollars, but the film rights could be returned to you after twenty years of release."
Lu Yanhe showed surprise again.
Lu Yanhe, who was well aware of Hollywood film companies and their rules of the game, knew very well how unprecedented it was that Parameter agreed to give him the film rights after twenty years.
Lu Yanhe weighed the options for a moment and said, "What was their attitude when I said before that I wanted to be the producer and have substantial involvement in the operation of the film project, including casting, filming, post-production, etc."
Darren Wilson smiled with relief.
“I originally thought this was the hardest point to discuss, but it’s clear that the success of Buried and Home Alone has given you a pass to projects from major film companies, not to mention that you wrote the script for this project. They now have a lot of faith in your vision and decision-making.”
Lu Yanhe was also taken aback, not expecting such an outcome.
I really didn't expect that.
Lu Yanhe asked, "Then which one do you recommend I choose?"
Darren Wilson smiled slightly and said, "I suggest you choose Soren."
"Soren?" Lu Yanhe was taken aback.
This company was not included in the information Darren Wilson had previously provided.
Moreover, Lu Yanhe was unfamiliar with this film company and knew nothing about it.
Darren Wilson said, "This film company is a new studio formed by the Yokoshoyama Group after it acquired three independent film production companies and a distribution company. It is well-funded and powerful, but lacks experience. It is the time when it needs to attract creators the most and is also the time when it is most generous in its offerings. It is the most suitable for your current needs."
Lu Yanhe looked at Darren Wilson with a slight surprise.
Darren Wilson paused for a moment, then said, "Linghe's ultimate goal is to become an independent company in Hollywood that can produce and distribute its own films, right? The core purpose of you giving me these two scripts is to truly and fundamentally participate in the process of operating an A-list film project in Hollywood and figure out the ins and outs of it."
Lu Yanhe did not respond.
He just looked at Darren Wilson.
The two of them exchanged a silent glance.
Then Lu Yanhe asked, "What can Soren offer me?"
“Two scripts, a package deal for $5 million. You are the second-in-line producer, and you and Linghe will have a combined 25% priority investment profit share. They only own the rights to the two films for five years after their release. After five years, the films will return to you,” Darren Wilson said. “At the same time, they will provide both films with large-scale global distribution, including in North America. They are willing to provide both films with at least 4,000 theaters and a two-week distribution period.”
Lu Yanhe instantly understood why Darren Wilson believed that Soren was the most suitable for his current needs.
“But, in addition to that, Soren made another request,” Darren Wilson said. “They want to go further with you. Besides these two films, they hope you can work with them on two more films over the next six years, as director, screenwriter, or lead actor. They’re open to all three types of collaboration.”
Lu Yanhe said, "You can reply to Soren that we can sit down together and discuss this further."
Lu Yanhe will not agree to these cooperation matters immediately.
Darren Wilson, however, understood what Lu Yanhe meant.
He laughed.
Lu Yanhe smiled at him as well.
