The car drove directly to the teachers' dormitory building. Li Xiuyuan looked at Su Ziying and asked, "Ziying, should I come up with you? Or should I wait for you downstairs? Is that convenient?"
“It’s convenient. I’m the only one in the dorm. Teacher Wang Yi probably hasn’t come back yet,” Su Ziying said.
Li Xiuyuan nodded and followed Su Ziying into the teachers' dormitory. The teachers' dormitory at the town's middle school was quite nice; it had been newly built a few years ago and wasn't an old building. When they arrived at Su Ziying's dormitory, Su Ziying opened the door and invited Li Xiuyuan inside.
This was Li Xiuyuan's first time visiting the girls' dormitory. He looked around curiously, noting that the dormitory was quite clean.
Each dormitory room has two beds, with a desk underneath and a bed on top. The room isn't very big, but it's big enough.
Li Xiuyuan looked around and then at Su Ziying's luggage. It wasn't much, just two bags. Li Xiuyuan said, "Ziying, see if there's anything you've forgotten. I'll take these two bags down to you first."
“There’s nothing else, let’s take one each,” Su Ziying said. The two bags were quite heavy because she had a lot of personal belongings, plus some books and the like.
Li Xiuyuan shook his head: "It's okay, I'll get it."
“It’s quite heavy; I tried to lift it before,” Su Ziying said.
Li Xiuyuan shook his head nonchalantly: "It's nothing. Others may not know, but you know me, right? I exercise every day, what's a couple of bags to me?"
Seeing that Li Xiuyuan insisted, Su Ziying didn't say anything more. Li Xiuyuan stepped forward and picked up the two bags, his expression changing slightly; they were indeed quite heavy.
"Is that alright? I have some books inside," Su Ziying asked.
Li Xiuyuan had spoken too confidently before, and now he couldn't take it back. He forced a smile and looked at Su Ziying, saying, "It's okay, it'll be fine."
Li Xiuyuan carried the two bags downstairs and put them in the trunk of his car. Su Ziying followed him down.
Seeing that Li Xiuyuan had already put away his luggage, they prepared to get in the car with Li Xiuyuan and go to Meilin Village.
But Li Xiuyuan waved his hand and said, "Ziying, you get in the car first, I'm going to have a smoke."
"Ah? Okay." Su Ziying nodded, slightly surprised. She knew that Li Xiuyuan smoked, but when they were alone together, he rarely smoked in front of her.
But now Li Xiuyuan was actually going to smoke in front of her. Su Ziying got into the car and was still observing Li Xiuyuan when she saw him take out a lighter and try to light it several times.
After lighting the cigarette, the hand holding it trembled slightly.
Su Ziying immediately understood. He didn't want to smoke at all; he just wanted to take a break. He had used too much force earlier, but he was just too embarrassed to admit it.
Su Ziying smiled knowingly. She had never seen a side of Deputy Mayor Li that was usually so decisive, mature, and composed.
