Chapter 614 Turning a Blind Eye (1/2)

At Yucai Agricultural Supplies and Seeds Store, Zhang Yucai watched as the officials from the Industrial and Commercial Bureau moved away his store's "Jufeng No. 1" seeds and confiscated his business license. He was on the verge of tears and quickly followed behind, pulling away the familiar enforcement team leader.

The town's industrial and commercial bureau actually only has six or seven formal staff members. This is in a large town like the central town. In other small towns, there might only be one or two formal staff members, and the rest are all temporary workers.

The title of "captain of the enforcement team" is just that; in reality, it doesn't even qualify someone as a section-level cadre—it's just a position.

Zhang Yucai has been doing business in the central town for so many years, so he is naturally familiar with the people in the town.

"Captain Zhang, I accept that the seeds are counterfeit, and you can take them away if necessary. But you can't confiscate our business license! We rely on this time of year to make a little money. If we have so much stock stuck in the store, we'll go bankrupt."

Zhang Yucai's old face was full of pleading, but the man called Captain Zhang remained unmoved. "Whether you pay compensation or not, what does it have to do with me?"

"Whose fault is it that your family had counterfeit seeds?" Captain Zhang said coldly.

Zhang Yucai cursed inwardly. He had often treated the other man to meals and drinks. They shared the same surname, Zhang, and the man always called him "brother" at these gatherings. Now, the man was turning his back on him.

That's incredibly cold-hearted; it shows absolutely no regard for our past relationship.

But Zhang Yucai had no other choice but to continue pleading, "Captain Zhang, please show me the way. Don't worry, I promise I won't treat you unfairly afterward..."

Upon hearing this, Captain Zhang gave Zhang Yucai a cold look. The large group from the Industry and Commerce Bureau had already walked quite a distance ahead, with cameramen and reporters following behind. He then slowly spoke, "Old Zhang, this operation is a county-wide special inspection, a unified deployment by the county government. Nobody dares to let you off the hook at this critical juncture. Don't overthink it, just wait patiently. Once it's all settled, I can help you figure out a way to get your business license."

"Afterwards, is it all settled? How long will that take, Captain Zhang..." Zhang Yucai said with a bitter face. At other times, he wouldn't care. He could just wait and pay a fine. What else could he do?

But now is the peak season for seed and fertilizer sales, and we rely on this time to make some money all year. But now our business license has been confiscated and we can't operate. Not only will we not make any money this year, but we may even lose money, since we still have so much stock piled up in the store.

If we don't sell them, we'll all be stuck with them.

"If you don't want to wait, then forget it and await further instructions." Captain Zhang said, then strode off to catch up with the main group, leaving Zhang Yucai standing there alone, on the verge of tears.

Not long after, Zhang Zhihao also rushed back. With such a big thing happening at home, he couldn't possibly work outside anymore.

After Zhang Zhihao returned, he learned the reason for the incident from his father and was anxious to get up.

Where are you going?

"I'll go to the local industrial and commercial bureau to ask what's going on," Zhang Zhihao said, looking anxious and angry.

“What’s the use of asking? Sit down.” Zhang Yucai frowned and scolded. He knew his son’s temper. He usually seemed honest, but he was also stubborn. If he went to the Industry and Commerce Bureau, he wouldn’t get any answers and might even end up arguing with them.
