Chapter 14 "Is it made of water? It cries so easily..."
“The school has a scholarship available for studying abroad, and after considering all factors, the teachers think you are the most suitable candidate.”
As Lian Huaiyang emerged from the office, he was still in a daze. The sunlight beneath his feet was like shattered gold. He bowed and chuckled softly, his chest trembling slightly.
The cool air filled my throat, and immense joy swelled in my heart.
Before this, he had always felt inferior. He had always been an excellent student since childhood, but after coming to this school, he deeply realized what it meant to be out of reach and have someone more capable.
He envied the good family backgrounds and intelligence of those around him, was jealous that they could easily possess things that he could not obtain through his own efforts, and hated himself for not being born into a wealthy family.
But today, Lian Huaiyang doesn't feel inferior to those people. So what if they are outstanding? The college still gave him the only scholarship for studying abroad.
It turns out I'm not as bad as I thought.
All the way, Lian Huaiyang kept his back straight, like a proud white swan, and even though passersby were in a hurry, they never noticed him.
Back in his dorm, Lian Huaiyang immediately went to the balcony to call home and share the good news.
Lian Huaiyang's mother was very happy, but his father, Lian Qianming, did not seem so cheerful. His first question was how much it would cost to study abroad, and after receiving the clear answer that it would not cost any money, he smiled so much that his eyes disappeared.
"He truly is my son, so promising!"
After the initial joy faded, Lian Huaiyang began to worry about another problem.
"Mom, how's Aunt Song doing lately?"
The "Aunt Song" mentioned by Lian Huaiyang is Song Wan's mother, Song Qinru.
After her parents divorced, Song Wan changed her surname to her mother's.
"Everything is fine at home, so don't worry. Focus on your studies."
"No." Lian Huaiyang hesitated for a moment before confessing, "Mom, I like Wanwan. Could you help me find out what Aunt Song thinks?"
Lian Qianming, who was listening nearby, was displeased and snatched the phone away. "Her family isn't well-off. When you come back from studying abroad, what kind of woman won't you be able to find? Who knows, maybe some rich girls will even be chasing after you. Focus on your studies and don't think about those messy things."
As soon as he finished speaking, the phone was hung up.
Lian Huaiyang gripped his phone, feeling somewhat agitated. He was determined to seize the opportunity to study abroad, but he didn't want to give up on Song Wan either.
Later that evening, Lian's mother sent a message.
Don't listen to your dad's nonsense.
I think Wanwan is a really nice girl.
I'll ask your Aunt Song later; she used to like you a lot too.
If you two get together, your Aunt Song will definitely be happy.
Hearing his mother's words, Lian Huaiyang finally felt a little more at ease. He typed: "Mom, recently a senior boy at school has been pursuing Wanwan. He's a playboy rich kid. I've warned Wanwan, but she might not listen to me."
Lian's mother quickly replied: "Don't worry, I'll mention it to your Aunt Song later. Wanwan listens to her mother the most."
Only then did Lian Huaiyang feel completely at ease.
Song Wan received a call from Song Qinru that evening.
She had just come out of the library. With final exams approaching, she had been spending the last few days studying at the library.
Song Wan was overjoyed when her phone rang.
"Mom, I was just saying I'd call you later. The exam schedule is out. The last exam is on January 15th, and I'm planning to grab a ticket home for the 16th."
This was the first time Song Wan had been away from home for so long and so far. She hadn't seen her daughter for half a year, and Song Qinru missed her too. But today's phone call wasn't for casual conversation.
Song Qinru put on a stern face and asked seriously, "Wanwan, Mom is asking you, is there a rich second-generation guy pursuing you at your school recently?"
“…Mom.” Song Wan choked, slightly taken aback.
Song Qinru knew her own daughter well, and upon hearing her tone, she knew it was true.
In an instant, Song Qinru was furious. "Song Wan, I've worked myself to the bone to send you to university just so you can indulge in pleasure?! How old are you?! Trying to date like everyone else?! And dating a rich second-generation?! Do you even know how promiscuous rich people are?! Song Wan! Are you trying to drive me crazy?!"
Song Wan had always known that Song Qinru had a bad temper. On the other end of the phone, her mother was so angry she could hardly breathe. Song Wan hurriedly explained, "Mom, I didn't!"
"You're still lying? Your Aunt Duan told me everything. Huaiyang said you've been bewitched by a rich second-generation. Song Wan, have I ever starved you or left you without clothes? Why are you degrading yourself like this!"
"Mom, you're not feeling well, please don't be angry, okay? I didn't, I really didn't! It's... it's Lian Huaiyang who made a mistake, he misunderstood. I didn't belittle myself, and I didn't do anything to embarrass you."
Song Wan was so anxious that tears kept falling down her face.
Hearing her hoarse voice and changed tone, Song Qinru felt a pang of unease. "Tell me, what exactly happened?"
"I...I..." Song Wan didn't dare tell Song Qinru about her experience of being harassed, as it would only add to her worries and wouldn't help the situation. So she lied and said, "There was an upperclassman...but I didn't agree. He has already given up. Mom, I'm not lying to you. You...you believe me."
Song Qinru was skeptical, and after a moment of silence, she said earnestly, "Wanwan, Mom doesn't mean to interfere with your freedom to date. It's just that you're still young and don't understand anything. Mom is worried that you'll be blinded by a man's sweet words and foolishly believe in love, only to be deceived in the end. Aren't I a living example? Wanwan, have you forgotten how your father beat us mother and daughter to death?"
Song Wan sniffled, her voice thick with tears: "I...I haven't forgotten."
“When you started school, I asked Huaiyang to take extra care of you, and that was because of this.” Song Qinru sighed and continued, “Your Aunt Duan said that Huaiyang has those kinds of feelings for you.”
Upon hearing this, Song Wan panicked. "Mom, I...he...I didn't agree, and I'm not dating anyone. I've been focusing on my studies."
“Mom knows you’ve been sensible since you were little. What Mom wanted to say was, Wanwan, Huaiyang is a good kid. Mom likes him too. You two are the same age and go to school together. Our two families know each other well. If you have the chance, you can get to know Huaiyang more. I think he’s a good kid.”
Song Wan pursed her lips and remained silent.
Song Qinru paused for a moment, and when she didn't hear a reply, she asked, "Wanwan?"
"I...I'll do whatever you say."
Song Qinru was satisfied, but still worried, she added, "Remember to stay away from those shady rich kids, or they'll corrupt you."
"I see."
After hanging up the phone, Song Wan was in low spirits.
A tingling sensation came from her cheek as someone gently wiped away the tears that were about to fall from her chin with their slightly calloused fingertips.
Song Wan looked up in surprise.
It is Chen Jianjin.
"Are you made of water? You cry so easily."
He raised his eyebrows slightly, his tone was relaxed, but his eyes were filled with heartache.
Song Wan turned her face away and took a small step back.
"Chen Jianjin, could you... please stop bothering me in the future?"
She stared at him longingly, her tears breaking her heart, yet the words that came out of her mouth were so cold.
Chen Jianjin chuckled in exasperation, then clicked his tongue lightly: "No way, baby."
The girl felt increasingly aggrieved, her round, bright almond-shaped eyes brimming with tears.
Chen Jianjin pulled the person close and, without saying a word, wiped away the dampness with his fingers.
"Chen Jianjin!" Song Wan refused to cooperate.
Chen Jianjin grabbed the back of her head, pressed his face against her lips, and planted a heavy kiss on the corner of her mouth, threatening, "Move again?"
Song Wan pressed her hands against his firm chest, not daring to exert any more force, and bit her lip as she cried even harder.
"Cry again?"
Now, Song Wan didn't even dare to cry anymore, and glared at him with her teary eyes.
So cute!
Wiping the water from her face, Chen Jianjin gently rubbed her damp fingertips together and couldn't help but laugh. "Is my baby still a three-year-old? She has to make friends according to her mother's wishes."
He heard everything.
Song Wan moved her lips, wanting to refute, but didn't know what to say. Finally, she forced out a sentence: "My mother wouldn't harm me."
Chen Jianjin's smile deepened as he pinched the soft flesh on her cheek.
How can she be so cute?
"Chen Jianjin!"
Song Wan pulled his hand away with great effort, her watery eyes glaring at him with displeasure.
“Then remember to listen to your mother from now on and stay away from rich kids.”
As he spoke, Chen Jianjin hooked his arm around the person and pulled him into his embrace.
Song Wan struggled and pushed him away, "You're just a rich kid, stay away from me!"
"Oh?" Chen Jianjin raised an eyebrow. "It's a pity, our family has been rich since my great-great ...
The boy chuckled nonchalantly, his almond-shaped eyes alluring and captivating, clearly conveying the message: I am not suitable for the task.
Song Wan's heart pounded, and she hurriedly looked away.
Rogue.
