Chapter 4, Chapter 4: "Baby, tell him who I am..."

Chapter 4, Chapter 4: "Baby, tell him who I am..."

The unassuming black car drove into the campus in the early morning, and Song Wan asked him to pull over.

Chen Jianjin: "What's wrong?"

As Song Wan unbuckled her seatbelt, she said, "I'll walk the rest of the way back myself."

Chen Jianjin tried to stop her, but his cell phone rang at an inopportune moment.

In the blink of an eye, Song Wan had already pushed open the door and left, running forward as if some unclean thing was chasing her.

The phone rang and stopped. Chen Jianjin gripped the steering wheel, watching the girl's receding figure, his brows furrowed with impatience.

He pulled out his phone; it was a call from Feng Jing, his biological mother.

Chen Jianjin slid to the answer button.

"I heard you forced yourself on that girl? Chen Jianjin, didn't I tell you that these are special times, so don't cause me any trouble?!"

"Why did I even give birth to you? You refused to follow the path that was laid out for you, insisting on starting a company instead. If that's the case, why did you come with me in the first place? Wouldn't it have been better if you had stayed with your father?!"

"Chen Jianjin, are you still a three-year-old? A three-year-old should be sensible by now. Look at you, you're always doing nothing productive. I must have committed some terrible sin in my past life to be haunted by you in this one!"

"..."

"Chen Jianjin, speak!"

Chen Jianjin listened to all the accusations expressionlessly, his tone so calm it betrayed no emotion: "Finished scolding?"

Feng Jing: "..."

Chen Jianjin hung up the phone immediately and threw it onto the control panel.

Such conversations would take place roughly every one or two weeks. At first, Chen Jianjin would argue and explain that the truth was that resistance would only lead to more intense suppression. So later, he wisely remained silent, and now, such accusations no longer stir up any emotional waves.

At least after this phone call, he'll have another two weeks of peace and quiet.

Song Wan ran all the way back to her dormitory, and the first thing she did was take a shower.

Sitting back in the classroom, the experiences of the past two days felt like a nightmare. When she woke up, she was back in reality.

Lian Huaiyang messaged her, asking if she was free in the afternoon so he could deliver the fruit to her.

Song Wan wanted to say that it wasn't necessary to go to so much trouble, but he insisted, and the two agreed to meet downstairs in the dormitory.

The last two periods in the afternoon were general courses on Marxist philosophy. Song Wan took advantage of the teacher's inattention and skipped the last half hour.

She was worried that Chen Jianjin would come and arrest her, so she left the teaching building early.

When I got to the dormitory building, I ran into Lian Huaiyang, who was carrying a bag of oranges.

Song Wan loves oranges, but she's also a bit lazy and doesn't like peeling them.

Lian Huaiyang: "My mom sent it."

Song Wan took the things and smiled at him, "Please thank your aunt for me."

Lian Huaiyang nodded, noticing that Song Wan was still holding a book, and nervously clenched the hem of her clothes. "Just finished class? Want to go eat together?"

After a moment's thought, Song Wan nodded in agreement: "Okay, shall we go out to eat?"

Lian Huaiyang agreed; that was exactly what he was thinking.

Song Wan smiled happily. Since she wasn't at school, even if Chen Jianjin wanted to look for her, he wouldn't be able to find her.

Lian Huaiyang let Song Wan choose, and Song Wan picked a hot pot restaurant.

It was lunchtime, and the restaurant was crowded. They sat down in an inconspicuous corner.

Having not eaten properly all day yesterday, Song Wan decided to treat herself. After ordering, she handed the menu to Lian Huaiyang, who added two pudding desserts and then gave the items to the waiter.

While waiting for the hot pot to heat up, Lian Huaiyang asked her about her unusual behavior that night. Song Wan slowed down her drinking, and just as she was thinking about how to vaguely brush it off, her phone rang.

The number is unfamiliar, but the location is local.

Song Wan thought her teacher was calling, so she answered the phone: "Hello?"

The breathing on the other end of the line was slightly heavy, followed by a male voice: "Where are you?"

Song Wan panicked and almost dropped her phone. She quickly hung up after regaining her balance.

Her series of unusual actions caught Lian Huaiyang's attention.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

Song Wan shook her head and turned her phone face down. "It's nothing."

Soon, the phone vibrated again.

Song Wan switched to silent mode. By this time, the hot pot was ready. As she put vegetables into it, she said, "Let's eat. I'm so hungry after a long day of classes."

It was a minor incident, but she said it was nothing, and even Huaiyang didn't ask about it again.

It was 8 p.m. when I left the hot pot restaurant.

The neon lights were colorful as they walked together.

Lian Huaiyang paid for the meal. Song Wan opened her phone and the first thing she saw was a 99+ missed call from the same number. She ignored the system notification, opened the chat app, and transferred her share of the meal payment to Lian Huaiyang.

Upon seeing the message, Lian Huaiyang couldn't help but smile wryly. "Our relationship... it's okay for me to treat you once in a while, right?"

“No way.” Song Wan shook her head, insisting, “We are still students and we are spending our parents’ money. It’s not easy for your uncle and aunt to earn money. You can treat me when you earn money in the future, and I will treat you then.”

She was in a good mood, her eyebrows curved, and a sweet smile appeared on her lips.

Song Wan has dimples, but they are very shallow and only become visible when she smiles.

Happiness is contagious, and even Huaiyang's mood lightened a bit. He nodded and said okay, but didn't accept the payment.

His footsteps shone in the moonlight. He hesitated for a moment, then finally stopped in a quiet spot near the school gate.

Song Wan glanced at him curiously.

"Wanwan." Lian Huaiyang swallowed, a little nervously, and said, "There's something I've been keeping in my heart for a long time, and now I want to tell you."

Song Wan blinked slowly. "What is it?"

"I...I..."

"baby."

Before Lian Huaiyang could give a result, a familiar voice came from behind.

The highest level of alert sounded in Song Wan's mind, and she stiffened her neck and turned her head to look.

My heart is completely dead.

Chen Jianjin stood casually under the streetlight, one hand in his pocket and the other playing with his phone, a faint smile playing on his lips.

Lian Huaiyang frowned, sensing something was wrong, and looked at the girl, "Wanwan, who is he calling?"

Chen Jianjin took a few steps forward, hooked his arm around Song Wan's waist, and pulled her into his embrace with a forceful and possessive manner.

He lowered his head, his thin lips brushing against Song Wan's ear, but his sharp phoenix eyes remained fixed on Lian Huaiyang for an instant.

He spoke, his tone a mix of threat and coaxing: "Baby, tell him who I am and who I'm calling."

Song Wan held his hand tightly, gritting her teeth: "I don't know you, we have nothing to do with each other."

Under the streetlights, Chen Jianjin's deep brown eyes were as cold as frost.

He raised an eyebrow and suddenly laughed, his long fingers rubbing her face. "You weren't like this yesterday when you offered your tongue to me."

Upon hearing this, Lian Huaiyang was stunned and stood frozen in place.

Song Wan tried to struggle, but she couldn't overcome his strength. Tears welled up in her eyes. "You forced me to do that!"

She was led astray and became disobedient, which Chen Jianjin disliked. He pinched her face with two fingers and pressed her head down again.

Lian Huaiyang suddenly snapped back to his senses and tried to stop him, but a man in black who appeared out of nowhere grabbed his shoulder and dragged him toward a dead end.

Realizing that Lian Huaiyang had been taken away, Song Wan struggled even more fiercely.

She bit down hard with her teeth, refusing to let him kiss her even if it hurt her.

Chen Jianjin spat out a mouthful of blood and looked at her with a furrowed brow.

With a strong metallic taste in her mouth, Song Wan wiped the bloodstains away with the back of her hand and met his gaze with resentment. "Release Lian Huaiyang!"

"Good, very good." Chen Jianjin's eyes were filled with a fierce light. He forced a smile, "If I don't cripple his leg today, I'll be letting down my darling's plea for mercy. Don't you say that, darling?"

"You dare?!"

Chen Jianjin patted her face, "Do you think I dare?"

Song Wan swallowed hard, her throat dry. Chen Jianjin was truly daring; with his uncle in the police station backing him up, he was capable of anything.

As reason returned, Song Wan's legs went weak; she was afraid and regretted it.

Chen Jianjin hooked his arm around her waist, preventing her from actually falling.

The light in her eyes had died, and the desolate dimness made Chen Jianjin's heart clench.

He opened his lips.

"I'm sorry." Song Wan closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face. "Lian Huaiyang is innocent. I didn't want to go back with you, so I dragged him out to have dinner with me. I know I was wrong. I'm sorry."

Chen Jianjin didn't like seeing her cry, even though she looked so beautiful when she smiled.

He cupped her face in his hands and kissed away all her tears.

"Release Lian Huaiyang, and I'll go back with you."

Chen Jianjin paused, his jealousy surging within him, but he had no choice but to suppress it. He clenched his fists, picked the man up by the waist, and carried him to the temporary parking spot by the roadside.

Back in her apartment prison, Song Wan felt incredibly foolish for trying to fight a losing battle.

Her mouth was injured, so Chen Jianjin found some ointment.

Song Wan was exhausted and had lost the strength to resist. She lay on the bed, letting Chen Jianjin repeatedly caress her lips with his fingertips, which were covered in ointment.

The ointment is edible and has a minty cooling effect.

Song Wan is very quiet now, with her eyes closed obediently.

Chen Jianjin's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, and he couldn't help but lower his head.

He buried his face in the crook of her neck. She had a faint, sweet orange scent that was alluring and pleasant, and Chen Jianjin liked it very much.

"Honey, let's not fight anymore, okay?"

Song Wan turned her head away and didn't say anything.

On Saturdays, Song Wan usually goes to the library to read books while at school, or rides her bicycle around any corner of the city.

Now, because she doesn't want to see Chen Jianjin's face, she is forced to stay in bed and can't go out.

"Honey, are you up?"

Song Wan turned her back to the door.

She locked the door from the inside, but in this apartment, Chen Jianjin's fingerprint could open any door.

He entered quietly.

Song Wan wasn't good at pretending to be asleep, especially with someone staring intently at her from beside her bed.

Her trembling eyelashes betrayed her.

Chen Jianjin gently brushed her curled eyelashes with his fingertips, then lowered his head and planted a good morning kiss on the corner of her lips. "Get up, baby, it's almost noon."

Song Wan opened her eyes and glared at him, then rubbed the back of her hand hard against her lips.

Instead of having lunch at the apartment, Chen Jianjin, for some unknown reason, insisted on taking her out for Western food.

He pulled over the seatbelt and fastened it for her, feeling quite pleased. "My darling has never tried Western food before, let's give it a try today."

The car stopped in front of a high-end Western restaurant, and Song Wan was led inside. Along the way, apart from the waiters, they didn't see a single customer.

It doesn't look appetizing.

Song Wan couldn't help but complain in her heart.

They were led to a private room. The waiter opened the door, and Song Wan saw the furnishings inside. A small square table was set with food and two chairs, one of which had a bunch of sunflowers on it.

The melodious sound of a violin filled the air, and the waiter thoughtfully closed the door for them.

Chen Jianjin picked up the flowers from the chair and handed them to Song Wan.

He didn't speak, his thick, straight eyelashes drooping slightly, his phoenix eyes deep as an ink pool, his gaze tender and focused.

Song Wan didn't answer, but walked around him, pulled out a chair and sat down, not even bothering to give him another glance.

Chen Jianjin lowered his eyes, suppressing his dejected mood, placed the flowers at her feet, and sat down opposite her.

The knife and fork were already placed correctly on both sides of the plate, and Song Wan began to cut the steak directly.

Since it was my first time eating it, I wasn't very skilled at cutting it and struggled to get a small piece.

Song Wan didn't know how well it was cooked; the outside was cooked, but there was still blood inside when she cut it open.

She smiled and said, "Uncivilized barbarians just like to eat raw meat and drink blood."

She was mocking him, calling him an uncivilized barbarian.

Chen Jianjin acted as if he hadn't heard her and moved the cut steak to her.

Everything on the table was arranged by him through his manager, including the fact that the steak in front of him was actually Song Wan's, and even the placement of the cutlery.

Song Wan's was much better; at least the red veins weren't as prominent. She took a bite with a skeptical attitude.

I don't know if it was because I was hungry, but the taste was surprisingly good.

Seeing that she didn't reject him, Chen Jianjin's mood improved slightly.

In fact, this was their first real meal together.

It's just the two of them, that's nice.
