Chapter 18

Cloud Girl Chapter 18

As the night passed, Chen Nanyi was dozing off on the sofa when she vaguely heard a "click" and the door opened.

The sun's white light shone behind Xu Xiaomeng, making his tall figure appear as if he were a god descending to earth.

However, it wasn't until Chen Nanyi rubbed his eyes and stood up that he realized he had returned with an injury on his arm.

The once pristine white robe had been torn open by something, revealing a large patch of white gauze mixed with specks of blood, which looked rather eerie.

Chen Nanyi was stunned for a moment.

Xu Xiaomeng didn't take a nap yesterday afternoon, and she didn't sleep last night either.

For someone with his regular sleep schedule, the continuous lack of sleep and excessive physical exertion left him feeling extremely exhausted when he returned.

Seeing him rush in so hastily, Chen Nanyi didn't know what to do or say. She placed one hand on the back of the sofa, glanced at him, and looked completely bewildered.

Xu Xiaomeng, however, managed to fight off her drowsiness and gave a weak smile, "I'm going to take a shower first."

Even after Xu Xiaomeng came out with her hair still wet, Chen Nanyi stood awkwardly by the sofa. But when she saw that Xu Xiaomeng was going upstairs to rest, for some reason, she mustered up the courage to call out to her.

"Uh, you..."

Xu Xiaomeng turned her head.

Seeing his tired gaze, Chen Nanyi was at a loss for words and just stood there motionless.

Xu Xiaomeng stopped and saw two simple fried eggs and a glass of orange juice on the table. On a whim, she took her hand off the escalator and walked towards her with a smile. "Is that for me?"

Chen Nanyi nodded, and Xu Xiaomeng smiled faintly, sitting on the dining table with a dazed look on her face.

Actually, he would rather go to sleep than eat, but because of Chen Nanyi's kindness, he reluctantly finished his meal before planning to go upstairs.

Seeing that he was about to go upstairs immediately after finishing his meal, Chen Nanyi hesitated for a moment before pointing to his hair, "You can just... go to sleep like this."

Xu Xiaomeng paused for a moment before realizing what was happening, then smiled helplessly, "It's okay, you go ahead and do your thing!"

Chen Nanyi knew how difficult it was for a person to control their actions when they were extremely trapped.

That instinct that could almost cause one to fall headfirst to the floor has managed to hold up for so long, which is quite remarkable. So, Xu Xiaomeng's continued gentleness is indeed a sign of respect for her.

For some reason, Chen Nanyi couldn't bear it and blurted out, "Let me dry you off!"

As soon as the words left her mouth, Chen Nanyi felt remorseful, wondering why she had said them, but she still tried her best to appear natural and calm.

Xu Xiaomeng was also extremely tired. She nodded and, without caring about anything else, collapsed onto the sofa.

Chen Nanyi had no choice but to do as she said.

She went to the bathroom to get a clean towel, and knelt down next to the sofa to wipe him down.

Slender fingers ran through Xu Xiaomeng's fluffy hair, and a cotton white headscarf wiped his ears, perhaps a little too hard, leaving his earrings slightly red.

Chen Nanyi often wiped Chen Yijing's hair, so it was done quickly.

Xu Xiaomeng was drowsy and confused, emotionally wishing time could last longer, but rationally she had almost lost the ability to perceive anything.

Not long after, Xu Xiaomeng fell asleep in the warm sunlight.

Chen Nanyi glanced at his toes, which were so white they were almost transparent in the sunlight, and covered him with a thin sheet.

Then, with nothing to do, Chen Nanyi looked at his pajamas with a tear, found a needle and thread and started mending them. After mending them, she also took the opportunity to wash them.

However, washing clothes has also caused some trouble.

She had originally left her underwear aside, not intending to wash it.

But then I thought that leaving the underwear alone would be too conspicuous, so I washed it along with the underwear.

But as soon as she finished washing, she felt embarrassed, as if she were trying to please him. And so, her mind was filled with a jumble of thoughts, a complete mess.

To stop thinking about these tormenting and shameful thoughts, Chen Nanyi walked along the coastline, trying to warm her life, which was always too cold, by basking in the comfortable sun.

She walked alone, intending to be single-minded, but Xu Xiaomeng's image and the room he had given her kept popping into her mind.

Although Chen Nanyi usually appears nonchalant, she is actually quite meticulous.

She found the room layout strange when she first saw it.

Later, after hearing about the old man who sold beach radishes, they confirmed the owner of the room...

She was a little confused, not knowing what Xu Xiaomeng meant by this.

Chen Nanyi should be able to deduce something from whatever he has said.

But Xu Xiaomeng never said anything, which made Chen Nanyi feel like he was being too narcissistic, even if he wanted to say that he liked her!

It's because Xu Xiaomeng has such a considerate and kind image, always taking care of other people's feelings, that people can't tell the difference between her and her true feelings, which leads to unnecessary trouble for herself.

Just as Chen Nanyi was fretting about something, she happened to run into Liu Shixi, who was also strolling around outside with that person from a family of doctors.

Liu Shixi was wearing a fitted bikini, and the male classmate, also dressed in revealing clothing, stood beside her with his arm around her waist.

Liu Shixi is a very cunning person.

She first approached from a distance and chatted with Chen Nanyi for a while, making up some random topics, which made Chen Nanyi feel a little impatient.

Just as she was about to ask what was wrong, Liu Shixi changed the subject and suggested that they switch rooms.

“I’m not used to living with so many people,” Liu Shixi said with a friendly smile.

Liu Shixi wanted Chen Nanyi to stay at a hotel, while she could stay at Xu Xiaomeng's house.

Only then did Chen Nanyi understand the man's intention in speaking to her.

Her brows furrowed, and she wanted to refuse, but her mind was filled with mixed emotions caused by her and Xu Xiaomeng's ambiguous attitudes just now, and she inexplicably didn't want to stay there any longer.

Chen Nanyi knew that she should have gone back and asked Xu Xiaomeng for her opinion before speaking, so as not to be impolite.

But she still inexplicably agreed to Liu Shixi's request.

After hearing the answer she wanted, Liu Shixi gave a beautiful smile, made an appointment with Chen Nanyi, and immediately dragged the male classmate back to the hotel to pack their things.

Feeling refreshed after waking up, Xu Xiaomeng stretched and sat up.

My head was a little fuzzy, but I could still vaguely recall the soft touches on my head before I went to sleep.

His heart fluttered. After wandering around downstairs and finding no one there, he calmed himself down and decided to go upstairs to see where Chen Nanyi was.

As soon as he reached the corner on the second floor, he saw a snow-white nightgown hanging on the second-floor balcony, fluttering in the wind like a butterfly dancing in the breeze.

Xu Xiaomeng reached out and pulled the flying clothes over to take a look. She immediately recognized the fine stitches as Chen Nanyi's work.

He had thought that the pajamas his mother had left him would cost a fortune, but he was surprised that they were done so easily.

Releasing the hem of her clothes, Xu Xiaomeng smiled down, suddenly finding her current state of mind somewhat unbelievable.

Suddenly, he remembered that he had been spending the last two days in his study, but hadn't actually read a single word.

All I wanted was to be closer to her.

And that slow-witted person probably doesn't even know that he gave her his room to stay in!

Did he really think his mother would be willing to let her only precious son live in such a dark corner behind the house?

Xu Xiaomeng couldn't help but shake her head, secretly lamenting her own cowardice.

He really wanted to express his feelings.

But if he were someone who could do such a thing, he wouldn't have fallen for Chen Nanyi, this girl who was always out of reach.

But thinking about it now, it's good. He can slowly feel it, slowly pour that love into the flow of time, and experience this kind of excitement now.

Xu Xiaomeng walked through the corridor with a smile, recalling the breakfast Chen Nanyi made for her that morning and the way he dried her hair... She couldn't help but blame herself for being too tired to feel anything and thus unable to relive the feeling of that moment.

Feeling both regretful and pleased, the man walked past what used to be his room, only to unexpectedly see her in another man's arms through the crack in the door, her head tilted back as she kissed him!

Xu Xiaomeng was suddenly struck dumb, almost unable to breathe.

He involuntarily took a step back, knocking over a vase and drawing the person inside out.

Xu Xiaomeng wanted to turn around and run away, but his blood seemed to freeze, making him stand there, unable to move.

It wasn't until his male classmate from the School of Life Sciences, who came from a family of doctors, stood at the door and greeted him politely that Xu Xiaomeng saw Liu Shixi tidying his clothes in the room—although he didn't know why they were there—that his heart seemed to recover and started beating again.

Xu Xiaomeng breathed a sigh of relief, but wondered why the two of them were here.

Seemingly noticing the confusion in Xu Xiaomeng's eyes, Liu Shixi explained that Chen Nanyi felt that she, a girl, was a little uncomfortable living with two boys, and that she would be more comfortable staying in a hotel with other girls, so he switched places with her.

Liu Shixi's reasoning was actually quite flimsy, but Xu Xiaomeng rationally believed it, which made her feel somewhat frustrated.

He had always known that Chen Nanyi was not good at living with others.

But if she had to choose between living with one person or living with a group of people, she would choose the latter.

After all, in a large group, she would be ignored, and if there was another boy there, and he was the only one there, it would indeed make her feel uncomfortable.

Even though Xu Xiaomeng accepted this explanation, he didn't really believe it subconsciously. He was just too embarrassed to ask, so he could only accept it.

As her thoughts raced, she caught a glimpse of Liu Shixi putting her clothes into the wardrobe.

Not wanting them to feel disgusted living in her bedroom, Xu Xiaomeng immediately asked her to move to another room.

Liu Shixi was puzzled, and Xu Xiaomeng didn't know how either, but they just made up a lie like that.

"Her bed is a bit dirty, let me get you a new one."

Liu Shixi was the kind of person who was happy to do everything without having to lift a finger, so he took the opportunity to move into an empty room on the ground floor, which made it more convenient for him to get things done.

That night, despite her efforts to conceal it, strange low noises still came from the downstairs room, making Xu Xiaomeng, who was sleeping directly above, blush and think of someone, and she couldn't sleep all night.

Small Theater

One day, Xu Xiaomeng climbed up to the fifth floor of her dormitory and realized she didn't have her dormitory key. She had to go downstairs to find the dormitory manager to get the key and then climb up to the fifth floor to open the door.

After opening the door, Xu Xiaomeng went downstairs to return the key to the dormitory, then climbed up to the fifth floor, where she ran into Chen Nanyi at the stairwell.

Chen Nanyi: "Oh, so you're here! I saw your door wasn't closed, so I closed it for you..."

Xu Xiaomeng looked up to the sky and roared, "Why did you do this?!"

Chen Nanyi only frowned slightly.

Xu Xiaomeng was immediately terrified—oh dear! She was back to square one! Now she was no longer familiar with Chen Nanyi!

She immediately lowered her head, "I was wrong, I was wrong in every way, wrong in every way... Wrong, wrong, wrong, it's all my fault, please forgive me, I won't make mistakes again..."

Chen Nanyi: "Um, I was just listening to music with my headphones on. A simple thank you would have been enough. What's with all that rambling?"
