Cloud Girl Chapter 5
As the morning sun shone brightly after the fog dissipated, the wind swept across the empty playground without any obstruction, lifting one corner of Xu Xiaomeng's coat and obscuring the figure of Chen Nanyi carrying Chen Yijing as they walked alone towards the foot of Tu Luoshan.
Along the broad-leaved forest path where fallen leaves fluttered, Chen Nanyi followed the stone path up the mountain and gradually disappeared into the dense shadows of the trees, as if hidden in ink.
The old man's questioning voice echoed in her ears, but Xu Xiaomeng was powerless to answer—why? Even though the warm winter sun shone on her, and even though there was a little person in her heart, she still couldn't dispel the biting cold wind, so chilling?
Xu Xiaomeng was still lost in thought, unable to pull herself out. It took her a few minutes to hear Grandma Yao comfort her, "Oh, Xiao Xu, don't worry too much. Nan Yina is just too worried. She's lived alone in the mountains since she was little, and has never interacted with anyone before. She's so immature, and she only has one little sister. She's just too nervous to react like this... She's a good child, don't blame her."
Xu Xiaomeng lowered his eyes and smiled wryly, "Of course not. Well, Grandma Yao, you've exercised enough, haven't you? How about I take you home?" he said, forcing a smile.
Sister Yao waved her hand, "No need, no need. Your hand is all cut; you should go back and put some medicine on it! Don't worry about it."
Xu Xiaomeng did not refuse. In fact, he was also a little annoyed, so even after returning to the dormitory, he kept thinking about it and frequently looked at the Tu Luo Mountains that were faintly visible across from the dormitory building.
She's probably in her bathroom at home, halfway up the valley, busy giving her sister a hot bath or wrapping her in a blanket to sweat it out!
Xu Xiaomeng was lost in thought, her mind wandering elsewhere, when she turned and went into her room in frustration.
By the time Xu Xiaomeng was nearing the end of her life, she had barely finished her day's work and tidied herself up; it was already late at night.
He, who always goes to bed early, was about to lie down in bed, but he couldn't help but go out onto the balcony.
However, when he looked out from the fifth floor and gazed at Chen Nanyi's house, which was about the same height as his own, he always felt as if he were looking up at the sky, so far away.
Before he could figure anything out, his roommate, who was originally supposed to stay in Tulo Community Service but had been "forced" to switch areas, walked in. The roommate probably guessed Xu Xiaomeng's thoughts, so he asked him teasingly, "Did you get the phone number?" and "How is he?"
Xu Xiaomeng's face suddenly turned red. Without thinking, she jumped onto the bed, pulled the covers over her head, and hesitated for a long time. She didn't know whether to answer or not, so she just mumbled, "Never mind... I'm going to sleep!" and then ignored him.
The sound of his roommates' giggling laughter suddenly stirred a strange flutter in his heart, causing a peculiar sensation in his body. This strange feeling made his pale face, nestled under the covers, turn bright red, and his heart pound wildly.
"Go to sleep, go to sleep," he thought helplessly, "I'll explain it to you in my dreams..."
Xu Xiaomeng has been having the same dream lately.
In his dreams, he always saw a vast expanse of clouds, and on those clouds, shimmering with magnificent colors, sat a man as serene as a wisp of smoke, named Chen Nanyi.
She wore a white gauze dress, the hem of which fluttered in the wind, and her deep eyes shimmered with an exceptionally beautiful, glassy hue.
She often stared blankly at the distant horizon, as if she could see through the boundless sky to the unknown and vast universe, and even see the traces of stars wandering and dancing in the sky, her thoughts drifting and ethereal...
The scene was so ethereal—yet for some reason, Xu Xiaomeng always felt surrounded by boundless sorrow, pouring out a deep sense of melancholy.
Seemingly hearing a sound, she turned around and looked down, then saw herself on the ground looking up at herself.
But this time she didn't look away. She just stared intently, motionless, like a predator assessing the danger of another prey, or like a picky hunter during courtship.
The sunlight cast shadows on the profile of her face, and a gentle breeze ruffled the ends of her hair—all of this gentleness made her appear graceful, and ultimately, all of this seemed to stem from the fact that she was a girl born to live in the clouds—something he could never obtain or get close to.
Finally, as if she had made a decision, she smiled slightly, and then colorful flowers bloomed at the end of the clouds, extending to the ground and creating a magnificent flower path.
Xu Xiaomeng was startled, as if encouraged, and then mustered her courage to walk along the long path lined with flowers towards her.
I felt a mix of trepidation and anticipation.
Xu Xiaomeng walked on, feeling that she was almost at the end.
Although he was a little tired, he was in a very good mood, so he continued walking, trying his best to touch her flowing hair.
But when he was exhausted and on the verge of collapse, he seemed to realize that he could never reach that road.
When will it arrive, or will it never arrive? Nobody knows.
All he knew was that the journey, which seemed short to him, appeared to stretch infinitely under the pull of some mysterious force—making it impossible for him to find any trace of Chen Nanyi, while she seemed to be getting further and further away from him.
Feeling a bit panicked, he started running, but running obviously didn't close the distance between them.
Sweat gradually welled up with tears, seeping into my eyes and causing a touch of pain.
Moisture rose from within, and tears welled up at the corners of her eyes, sliding down her throat and into her chest, following the glow of the afterglow, burning little by little within her full breasts...
The thin oxygen in his blood made his heart ache with a burning pain; his whole body was feverish and burning hot. A strange, stimulating sensation surged up, causing him to involuntarily gasp, abruptly waking him from his dream...
Xu Xiaomeng suddenly woke up from her dream, feeling somewhat unsatisfied. She saw that it was still only barely dawn, but she couldn't fall back asleep.
He's been having these kinds of dreams lately, like dreaming of snakes to represent sexual desire, which is embarrassing and shameful.
So embarrassed that he would lower his head in shame every time he saw the cleaned sheets on the balcony—he had been washing the sheets for several days in a row, he couldn't very well lie to people that he had wet the bed, could he? Who would believe him?
Even lying in bed, she couldn't stay still. Xu Xiaomeng was lost in her own thoughts, feeling melancholy and having all sorts of wild ideas.
Actually, he had a lot to do today, but he kept thinking about Chen Nanyi, who was far away, and was also troubled by the irreparable mistake he made yesterday. He couldn't even concentrate on the freshman assignment that the teacher had given him in advance before the start of the semester. Although he kept trying to grab his thoughts back, he couldn't find a way to distract himself and instead wasted more time.
Xu Xiaomeng herself didn't know why this was happening.
He was usually a peaceful person who didn't force anything, but this time, for some reason, his obsession was so strong. He kept having the same thought in his mind—he desperately wanted to get closer to her, even at all costs, to possess and have her.
That's different from a little boy wanting to use force to get something by brutal means, even though he's never done that before—it's just that he wants to do it now.
He looked up to Chen Nanyi as a girl living in the clouds—this did not change because of her struggles in reality, nor did he judge her as inferior because of her temperament.
On the contrary, he simply wanted to cherish and hold such a person in his hands and in his heart.
This was different from his upright behavior towards others, though it seemed similar... He couldn't quite explain the feeling, so he could only bury everything in his heart.
At that time, Xu Xiaomeng was a junior in the School of Life Sciences, and his second major was economics and management. He planned to learn some economic methods to manage the funds left by his mother.
Logically, he shouldn't be so at a loss, but based on certain unchangeable realities, he's such a grown man, yet he's still worrying about these "childish" things.
Speaking of which, Xu Xiaomeng is probably the kind of "overly kind" class monitor that every class has.
Because he was alone at home, he spent a lot of energy learning other skills or interacting with others—things he wasn't good at.
So he can play a little piano, and also practice calligraphy, he can do a little bit of everything—and he gets along well with almost everyone.
In class, good people befriend him because of his sincerity; those who are neither good nor bad associate with him because they can benefit from him; while those with bad intentions do so because they can exploit his "honesty," "fairness," and "naiveté" to shift difficult or troublesome tasks onto him and then slip away unscathed...
Therefore, although Xu Xiaomeng seems to have many friends, she doesn't have many truly close confidants.
This may be why, despite his good relationships with everyone, most people keep their distance from him.
He himself was vaguely aware of this, but his life had always been like this, so it was not easy to change.
Xu Xiaomeng served as class monitor in both her major and elective classes, and naturally had many responsibilities at the beginning of the semester.
In particular, he became the vice president of the student union last year, which means he has even more student activities to organize.
Normally, students don't have that much time to prepare for the start of the school year, but people like him who hold student positions have to report to the teachers in advance and make arrangements for the start of the school year, so they have to get busy beforehand.
People in the dormitory got up in twos and threes, had a quick breakfast, and then went about their own business since there were no classes.
Xu Xiaomeng finally mustered up some energy, turned on her computer, and planned to handle today's matters first before doing anything else.
Xu Xiaomeng had a file on her computer containing the application for skills activities for this year's freshmen winter training, sent by student council members. She hesitated, about to skip it, when she suddenly remembered that she seemed to have heard from Grandma Yao a few days ago that Chen Nanyi, although living here, had just entered the university department of Lu's Academy and would probably participate in this year's winter training.
Looking at Xu Xiaomeng's event planning on the computer, a thought flashed in his mind: Maybe he could consider approving this application?
In the past, these extra activity applications were often ignored, even if they were seen, because of the limited time for winter training and the complicated procedures. The teachers had also instructed that these applications should be skipped.
After all, military training is just like that; it's exhausting, and you don't leave after the exercises, otherwise it would be even more arduous.
Xu Xiaomeng secretly thought that he would have to attend classes and wouldn't have any way to see Chen Nanyi.
But if they could get together at other times, then he could see her openly, right?
Therefore, looking at the application that he should have ignored, Xu Xiaomeng was hesitant and just frowned.
However, the freshmen winter training lasts for half a month, which should give him a chance to apologize to Chen Nanyi. After all, it was his fault that things turned out this way and that made her look at him so angrily... With these thoughts in mind, Xu Xiaomeng's expression darkened again, and she became upset.
But he has always been the kind of person who makes preparations as soon as he thinks of something, and he is quite efficient.
With great enthusiasm, he quickly completed the application for the "Freshman Life Skills Competition" in almost no time.
Thanks to his mother, who was a professor at Lu's Academy, most of the professors at Lu's Academy knew Xu Xiaomeng and took good care of him.
And he was very supportive of the activities advocated by such a good student—even if they were a little troublesome.
Xu Xiaomeng herself was aware of this, which is why she dared to have such thoughts.
Unfortunately, Xu Xiaomeng was filled with anxiety and was so fragile and sensitive that he was always afraid that others would know about his dark thoughts. So, he dragged out the application he was supposed to submit to the counselor on the same day he completed it until the winter training for freshmen was about to begin.
No matter where you are, planning any simple event requires advance preparation time to plan the venue, personnel, time, and the collection and borrowing of related items.
There was only one day left before the start of the semester. He checked the list of new students in the School of Life Sciences this year but couldn't find Chen Nanyi's name. So unless there was a skills competition and he had to find a way to get Chen Nanyi to participate, he wouldn't be able to see her again anytime soon, as he was busy helping with the arrangements for the new students.
Xu Xiaomeng lingered outside the counselor's office for a long time, so long that he grew tired of his own procrastination.
But whenever he mustered the courage to go in, he was puzzled as to why they had to expend so much energy on such trivial things during this busy time of school.
But he was rather unwilling to leave without doing anything, so he paced anxiously outside.
Just as Xu Xiaomeng was still struggling, the office door suddenly opened from the inside with a knock.
The teacher's shift has ended.
The sound of conversation came from behind the door, and Xu Xiaomeng unconsciously tightened her grip on the event plan in her hand.
He had been determined to go to meet the teacher, but for some reason, just as he was about to see the teacher's face, he suddenly turned around and hid behind a pillar at the corner.
Clutching the crumpled paper in his hand... he still couldn't hand it in in the end.
Xu Xiaomeng: "Nanyi, Nanyi, come and recommend an official position for me—I'm playing a newly developed ancient political game, what official position do you think I should be?"
Chen Nanyi, "Why not become emperor?"
Xu Xiaomeng |( ̄3 ̄)|, “Do you really want me to have three palaces and six courtyards? Oh dear, of course I know that's impossible, so hurry up and help me choose one!”
Chen Nanyi, "Hmm, there's a pretty good position. It connects you to the Emperor above and the princes below; all officials respect you, and concubines fawn over you..."
Xu Xiaomeng (>y<), “Quickly, tell me, what is it?”
Chen Nanyi: "The chief eunuch!"
Xu Xiaomeng (¥_¥), "Believe me, once you play this game, you'll realize you've ruined your own career."
Chen Nanyi, "Pervert*(…………&¥¥#")
