Chapter 80: Who among the young people nowadays doesn’t have dates in the middle of the night?

After preparing dinner, Li Susu quietly slipped back to the bedroom.

The sound of mahjong tiles colliding in the living room felt like it was about to penetrate the walls at any moment.

Li Susu took a deep breath and carefully took out her cell phone from her bag.

The moment it was unlocked, the dense red dots made her pupils shrink slightly.

The latest news was posted an hour ago.

[Susu, call back immediately after seeing the message.]

Her eyes felt slightly hot, and with trembling hands she opened the dialog box and typed in the text.

"Dear, I'm back home. My brother came to see me today. He said my grandma has Alzheimer's disease and doesn't recognize people anymore after surgery. I want to see her. I'll be back in Jiangcheng tomorrow afternoon. I'll take good care of the baby. Don't worry."

The moment the send button was pressed, the screen immediately lit up with a new message: [Send me the location.]

She did as she was told.

After sending the location, he added, feeling uneasy, "My mom and brother are very good to me, don't worry. I'll go to the hospital tomorrow morning and take a ride back this afternoon."

【good. 】

Li Susu stared at the phone screen and could almost imagine Bo Junyi with a gloomy face and a tense jawline.

She sighed softly, turned off her cell phone, wrapped it in layers of old sweaters, stuffed it into the bottom drawer of the wardrobe, and pressed it tightly with folded clothes.

Suddenly, there was a harsh sound of tables and chairs being moved in the living room.

"You damn girl! Where have you been running off to again?" Zhou Caiying's familiar roar came through the door. "It's so late, are you trying to starve me to death?"

Li Susu froze and rushed into the kitchen, just in time to see her mother standing in front of the stove with her hands on her hips.

"Where have you been?" Zhou Caiying asked coldly.

"I'll go to the bedroom and clean up a bit, then I'll serve the food."

She lowered her head, her hair falling to hide her panicked eyes.

Steaming hot air wrapped in the aroma of food wafted out from the kitchen, and Li Susu carefully carried the porcelain bowl across the living room.

The roar of Li Ruilin playing games came from the next room.

Zhou Caiying leaned on a half-worn fabric sofa, leisurely eating melon seeds and watching short videos, and laughed out loud when she saw something happy.

"Mom, it's time to eat." Li Susu put the last dish on the table.

Zhou Caiying didn't even raise her eyelids, her fingers already grasping the chopsticks: "Go call your brother."

Li Susu walked to the next room.

The moment she opened the door, the smell of cigarette smoke mixed with the sour smell of the instant noodle bucket hit her in the face, making her feel nauseous.

"Brother, it's time to eat." She reminded him softly.

Li Ruilin leaned back in his gaming chair, waving at her without even looking up. "Can't you see you're busy? Eat later."

"The food will get cold soon."

"If it's cold, just warm it up." He pulled off his headphones, his tone impatient and matter-of-fact, "Don't get in the way here!"

Li Susu pursed her lips, closed the door silently and walked out.

Back in the main room, Zhou Caiying saw her and deliberately poked the vegetables with her chopsticks, sneering:

"This soup is so bland, it's not even fat enough to feed pigs. You didn't even buy some meat when you passed by town? Did you come back here to piss me off?"

"The supermarket closes at eight o'clock."

"They're all excuses!" Zhou Caiying slammed her chopsticks on the table.

Li Susu lowered her head, took a bite of the steamed bun silently, and said nothing.

Zhou Caiying seemed to have thought of something important and took the initiative to break the silence.

"By the way, your sister-in-law Xia from the east wants to introduce you to a guy. He's very handsome, has a car and a house, and works on a construction site with his father. It's hard to find someone with such good conditions. I've written down his WeChat ID, add him now!"

A yellowed piece of paper was handed to him, with a string of numbers written crookedly on it.

Li Susu wanted to refuse, but when she thought of the scene in high school when her mother slapped her until the corner of her mouth was red, swollen and bleeding, her throat felt like it was stuffed with cotton.

"Add more after dinner."

"Right now!" Zhou Caiying said firmly, "Don't try to fool me."

"My phone is out of battery and is charging." Li Susu made an excuse.

"Don't play tricks on me!" Zhou Caiying glared at her viciously, "I'll call your sister-in-law Xia later..."

"Got it." Li Susu said expressionlessly, "I'll add it later."

After dinner, Zhou Caiying pushed the dishes aside and went out to play mahjong in her slippers.

After cleaning the kitchen, Li Susu locked the door and took out her cell phone from deep in the closet.

The message about Bo Junyi lay quietly in the dialog box.

The new friend request that popped up made her breath stop - it was the number on the note.

She stared at the verification number jumping on the screen, and finally clicked pass.

I put my phone back into the cabinet and went to the yard to wash up. When I came back, I found that the boy named He Jiahang had sent me a lot of messages.

[Susu, I'm He Jiahang. You still remember me, right? We were classmates in junior high school. You were good at studying and pretty, so I was quite impressed by you.]

She stared at the screen for two seconds, without any impression.

New information popped up again, and the words between the lines were overly familiar.

[I just got back yesterday and am currently having dinner at your restaurant in the east end of the village. I wonder if I can see you later.]

Li Susu quickly replied: [I'm very carsick and want to go to bed early. Otherwise, see you tomorrow.]

The other person immediately sent a puppy emoji with droopy ears, with the caption: [Okay then, go to bed early, see you tomorrow.]

Li Susu was indeed a little tired, so she turned off the lights and prepared to go to bed.

But just as I was about to fall asleep, the door was slammed loudly.

Li Ruilin's loud voice pierced through the door: "Li Susu! Cook two packets of instant noodles and fry two poached eggs. Don't overcook them! Send them to my room when you're done."
