The few of them kept playing until it was completely dark. After several calls from his uncle and aunt, Yan Cuo got up and prepared to go back. Su He also got up and picked up his phone, only to find that it had been muted at some point. It now showed many missed calls, all from Su Changsheng.
Su He hurriedly called back. The caller on the other end picked up the phone immediately and began to accuse Su He harshly, "Su He, look at the time now. It's dark. Why didn't you answer my call? Look at how many times I called you. I didn't want to scold you during Chinese New Year, but you're really going to piss me off to death! You know I was so worried I ran out to look for you everywhere but couldn't find you."
Su Changsheng finished speaking in one breath, still a little frightened. Su He had always been obedient and this had never happened before. He had made countless calls but no one answered. His heart was in his throat and he felt an intense panic inside.
He was afraid, afraid that Su He would leave like her mother, without saying goodbye. How could he accept this blow now?
When she called back, she was excited and angry, and all she could think of was blaming her. She felt a little regretful when she came to her senses, but she didn't want to apologize to her, so she just felt awkward.
The girl on the other end of the phone felt a little aggrieved by his series of accusations. She knew that it was because she didn't pay attention to her phone and shouldn't have been outside so late, making her father worry.
She choked up a little and apologized to the man on the other end of the phone, "I'm sorry, Dad. It's my fault. I don't know when the phone was muted, and I didn't hear your call. I shouldn't have stayed up so late and made you worry. I won't do it next time."
Su Changsheng's heart softened when he heard the girl crying, but he was still a little angry when he thought about what happened today. "Don't do this again next time. Remember to tell me when you go out to play. Don't mute or turn off your phone. Don't let Daddy find you. Daddy is the only one at home. I've been waiting for you all the time, but you never come back. Daddy is so anxious and worried."
Although he said that, his tone was much better. Su Changsheng sighed. He simply couldn't be mean to this girl. She was everything to him, like the apple of his eye. How could he bear to let her cry?
Su He's voice was still a little choked, but he quickly made a promise to the person on the other end of the phone, "Don't worry, Dad, I won't do it again next time. I won't make you worry anymore. Don't be angry, Dad."
"Well, come back quickly. Dinner has been ready for a long time and is getting cold. I also made your favorite braised pork ribs today. If you come back later, I will eat it all."
Su He suddenly became excited and was about to run out, "Dad, please leave some for me, I'll be back soon."
Yan Cuo looked at the figure running out quickly in front of him and stood up anxiously, "Wait for me, I will go back with you."
Su He stopped and waited for her for a while, and kept urging her, "I want to go back quickly to eat the braised pork ribs made by my father. My father's braised pork ribs are unique, super delicious. I have never tasted this kind of taste outside."
Yan Cuo was used to her greedy look. "Go back and apologize to your father. He must be worried sick."
Su He nodded, "I know. It's rare for him to be so mean to me. He must be really worried. I'll go back and apologize and comfort him."
Yan Cuo nodded, looking at her with sympathy, "I'll probably get scolded when I go back. I've been out for too long, my uncle and aunt must be worried."
Su He patted her shoulder and said, "Come on, face the storm."
The two separated at the intersection ahead and returned to their respective homes. When Yan Cuo returned, Zhong Hongmei and Yu Ruhai had not yet eaten dinner and were sitting on the sofa waiting for her, their expressions a little serious.
Yancuo walked over and sat down opposite them, a little nervous, "Uncle and aunt, haven't you had dinner yet?"
Zhong Hongmei's expression was very serious at the moment. She looked at Yan Cuo with some reproach, "Yan Cuo, today is the first day of the Lunar New Year. You've been out all day and you've only just come back. How can this be said of a grown woman?"
Yan Cuo looked at her aunt, who seemed to have returned to her old self. She felt a little guilty and held her hand. "I'm sorry, aunt. I went out to play with Su He and the others today. I was so happy that I forgot about the time. I won't do that next time."
Zhong Hongmei deliberately ignored her. Seeing her apologizing pitifully to herself, she couldn't help but feel a little soft-hearted. "Forget it, forget it. Don't do it again. If you do this again next time, I won't forgive you."
Yancuo smiled broadly at her, "I know, auntie, I know you're the best to me."
Seeing that the matter had been quickly turned over, Yu Ruhai pulled her and said, "Didn't we agree to talk about her together? How come it's over so quickly? I haven't even opened my mouth yet."
Zhong Hongmei tugged at her sleeves and shook off his hand, leaving him with a cold look at the back of her head. "The child already knows she's wrong, why are you still saying so much? Yan Cuo has always been obedient, and I'm very satisfied with her."
After saying that, he pulled Yan Cuo towards the dining table without inviting him to join them, which made him sit there in confusion. He then stood up and walked towards the dining table.
Sitting down, he saw the two people opposite him sitting there motionless. Yan Cuo wanted to get up to serve the food but Zhong Hongmei told him to sit down again. "Let your uncle serve the food. Look at how much he drank yesterday, and I haven't said anything to him yet."
Yu Ruhai sighed, "Okay, okay, I'll serve you some food. Don't bother with me. I won't drink so much next time."
After thinking about it, he realized something was wrong. "That's not right. Weren't we supposed to talk about Yancuo together today? Why are you talking about me again?"
Zhong Hongmei glared at him and said, "I'm not happy with you, so what?"
He reluctantly packed their food and placed it in front of them, "Okay, okay, it's all my fault, eat quickly."
The three of them ate together. The food was a little cold, but they still ate happily. However, Yan Cuo felt a little guilty and looked at them, "Uncle and aunt, I won't come back so late again. If it happens again next time, don't wait for me. I'm fine."
Yu Ruhai glanced at her and said, "What nonsense are you talking about, kid? You're still growing, how can it be okay? Besides, we're a family, shouldn't we be neat and tidy?"
Yan Cuo stood up and said, "The dishes are a little cold. I'll heat them up." As he was about to go to the kitchen, he was stopped by Zhong Hongmei.
"I'm almost done eating. No need to heat it up. Don't be so pretentious. Sit down and eat."
Yan Cuo sat down obediently and didn't say anything else, but he couldn't help feeling a little guilty. He remembered in his heart that he must not come back so late next time and must not make them worry again.
