Chapter 36: Exchange Everything

Grandma struggled to hold on for a long time. This old woman who had been strong all her life wiped her tears again and again behind Yan Cuo's back. She couldn't bear to leave her poor granddaughter. She blamed her son and daughter-in-law for their cruelty, and at the same time she was deeply reluctant to let her go.

In the blink of an eye, Yancuo graduated from elementary school. She refused to go to junior high school no matter how the old man persuaded her. The old man was helpless and deliberately scolded her angrily, but she did not get angry and still served her as usual.

They say there are no filial sons by the bedside of a long-term patient. During the time the old man had been ill, Yan Cuo's parents had only visited a few times, and they had always left after a short visit. Yan Cuo could see the disgust in their eyes, and he felt a little numb in his heart.

I have long been accustomed to two such ruthless people. They are so cruel that they are not worth having any hope for.

In the golden autumn of September, the weather gradually turned cooler. This day seemed no different from any other day. Yan Cuo got up early, fetched some water and prepared to wipe his grandmother's body. When he walked to his grandmother's room, he saw many people gathered there.

There were so many people here. Yan Cuo had never seen so many people appear here together. She had a bad feeling in her heart. She ran over quickly and saw several uncles standing in front of her grandmother's window. Several grown men were also crying at this moment.

Yan Cuo was startled and the washbasin fell directly to the ground with a loud noise. Many people turned to look at her, their eyes slightly red. Yan Cuo walked forward hesitantly, looked at the person on the bed and called out blankly, "Grandma?"

The old woman's consciousness was already somewhat hazy, and she couldn't speak clearly. She just held out her hand to her, and Yancuo hurriedly shook her hand. Grandma's hands were so cold, as if they were about to disappear. Yancuo hurriedly breathed on them, trying to warm them up.

These hands have made so many delicious meals for me and washed so many dirty clothes, but now they are full of wrinkles and are so cold that they are almost temperatureless.

Yan Cuo's tears suddenly fell. She didn't make any sound, just cried silently, all the time looking at her grandmother. Her grandmother slowly reached out her hand to wipe her tears, and moved her mouth to say something, but the voice was too soft for Yan Cuo to hear clearly.

She leaned in closer to listen, and only heard her grandmother say with difficulty: "Don't cry, our Yanyan, don't cry, our Yanyan is a good child."

Yan Cuo held her grandmother's hand tightly and kept crying. She could feel that her grandmother was really going to leave her this time, but she was so scared and sad, she felt like dying.

The old man moved with difficulty at this moment, his eyes looking in the direction of Yan Cuo's parents, who hurried forward.

"Mom, go ahead." Yan Bing held the old woman's other hand and listened to her patiently.

"You, you must treat Yanyan well. She is still young and you are her parents." After the old man said this, tears couldn't help but fall from the corners of his eyes, and he just looked at his granddaughter beside him.

Yan Bing and his wife were both holding the old man's hand, and they promised solemnly: "Don't worry, we will definitely treat Yan Cuo well and let her grow up happily like other children."

The old man just looked at them, then put their hands together forcefully, his eyes full of reluctance, his gaze always looking at Yan Cuo.

Yan Cuo kept crying, as if she had lost consciousness of her tears. As she watched her grandmother getting weaker and weaker, she finally burst into tears.

"Grandma, grandma, please open your eyes. Don't leave me alone. What will I do if you leave me alone?"

Yan Cuo rushed forward and hugged the old woman tightly. Feeling her body getting colder and colder, he was filled with fear.

Finally, the hands dropped down. No matter how much Ren Yancuo cried and shouted, the old man closed his eyes and could no longer hear.

Yancuo's world seemed to be quiet all of a sudden. She could not hear the people shouting, nor could she hear the adults crying sadly to her grandmother.

Those people who were rarely seen throughout the year seemed to have lost the whole world at this moment, and let out earth-shaking cries of grief to the old man.

Yancuo looked at his grandmother. She was so thin, like skin and bones, with no flesh on her body. She had been fighting the disease for so long, it must have been very tiring and difficult. She had been holding on all this time, probably just worried about herself.

This old woman, who had been kind all her life, worked hard for herself until her death. Looking at her hypocritical parents crying and wailing in the crowd, she felt it was extremely ironic.

What a burden I am to them, and I must be so worried about what to do with myself now.

Just like before, I threw it away for more than ten years and no longer cared about how I was doing.

Yan Cuo had already given up on them. The promises they and their grandmother made were a joke to him.

From now on, even if I am alone, I will never have any hope for them again.

Yan Cuo looked in their direction with red eyes, her eyes were calm, as if she was looking at a stranger. Yu Hui looked up at that moment and met her eyes.

She was a little shocked. She had ignored her daughter for more than ten years, and now she felt so unfamiliar with her.

She wanted to go to her, but Yan Cuo walked past her and stubbornly came to her grandmother's side, wiping her body carefully with a towel, not daring to be careless at all.

My grandma loves cleanliness, so even when she passes away, she wants to leave cleanly.

Everyone present was moved and wanted to persuade her, but Yan Cuo refused to listen to anyone and just kept wiping it stubbornly.

She didn't know how long she wiped until someone pushed her away. Then she saw many people's mouths moving, saying something. Then she looked at many people doing something around her grandmother.
