Chapter 57: Wanting to Give Myself the Best Future

The next morning, Yancuo said goodbye to his uncle and aunt and boarded the bus back to Yuncheng. He packed a few changes of clothes in his schoolbag and planned to stay there for a few more days to spend time with his grandmother.

After a bumpy ride, it was almost noon when we arrived. Yan Cuo got off the bus and looked at this familiar yet unfamiliar place. All the memories of the past came back to him, and an indescribable emotion arose in his heart.

I was born here and spent my entire childhood here. This is where I have the most profound memories.

Whether it was the pain of being isolated and misunderstood at school, or the touching feeling of being always loved by my grandmother, they are the most profound memories.

Stepping onto this land again, I didn't feel the fear I had imagined, but I felt that things and people had changed. Looking towards the village entrance, I seemed to still see the old man and the child walking slowly, as if I could still see my grandmother's loving smile at me, as if I could still hear the words she said.

"Our Yanyan is the best. Grandma always believes in you."

This is the sentence my grandmother said most often. That hunched figure always seemed to have great strength. He always held my hands tightly to protect me from all the ups and downs.

Yan Cuo looked ahead, sighed deeply, and walked resolutely towards his home. That was the place where his closest relatives were, and it was the place that carried many of his laughter and tears.

When the villagers saw Yan Cuo coming back, they talked about him from afar and did not come forward to say hello. Yan Cuo did not care and just walked on by himself until he reached that familiar place and stopped.

Looking at the familiar little house in front of me, I seemed to see all the things in the past again, as if I saw the little me and my grandma relying on each other in the past, the way my grandma was angry with me, and the way she smiled at me.

Everything seemed to have happened just yesterday, but so many years had passed. Yancuo found the key and opened grandma's room. Because it had not been opened for a long time, there was a strong musty smell in it and the room was covered with thick dust.

Yancuo opened the window to let in some air, then went to get some water and wiped it carefully. No one had been here in all these years, and the furnishings were still the same as before, as if grandma were still here.

Just ignore that black and white photo.

Two black and white photos hung prominently on the wall. In the photos, Grandma was smiling kindly, while Grandpa had a serious look on his face. Yancuo had never met Grandpa, but he knew from Grandma that he was an upright man who had always followed the rules and regulations and was always serious about who he saw.

In that era, my grandfather offended many people because of his personality, so my grandparents lived a relatively poor life. Fortunately, my grandmother never complained, and the two of them stayed together and gave birth to many children. They lived a poor but contented life.

Later, my grandfather fell seriously ill and passed away early. My grandmother was strong enough to shoulder the burden of the family and never complained. But slowly, the woman became more and more tired, and her back was bent little by little by the weight of life.

Looking at them now, Yan Cuo seemed to see the true appearance of love. In this life, if you don't come, I will wait for you. If you come, I will accompany you. If you leave, I will guard our home for the rest of my life.

I don’t know if my grandma drank the bowl of Meng Po soup, and whether she will still remember me in her next life, that naughty girl who made her worry.

As Yan Cuo watched, tears couldn't help but fall from the corners of her eyes, but she didn't feel bitter, because her grandmother must be very happy at this moment. She must have found her grandfather, and she could finally be the willful woman again, with someone pampering her.

Yancuo tidied the room and washed her face. The summer temperature was frighteningly high, and she was drenched in sweat in a short while. She sat down under a large tree to cool off, feeling the rare breath of coolness.

After sitting for a while, she stood up and prepared to go to her grandmother's grave. Her uncle said that her grandmother's grave was together with her grandfather's, on a mountain in the south. Yancuo locked the door of her grandmother's room again and walked towards the mountain.

The sun was blazing, and Yancuo wiped his sweat as he walked. He felt a little regretful for not bringing an umbrella with him. It would definitely be much darker when he returned. Feeling regretful, he quickened his pace and soon arrived at his grandmother's grave.

She went to her grandmother's grave and saw a bunch of flowers placed on her grave. She was a little surprised and couldn't figure out who put it there. She looked around and saw no one there.

With some doubts, Yan Cuo took out a handkerchief and wiped his grandparents' graves carefully. He looked at the people in the photos and talked to them incessantly.

"Grandpa, although I've never met you, from what Grandma has told me, I can tell that you're an upright person. You're very kind, and you're a role model for me. You must be very happy with Grandma now. You must treat her well and never bully her. Grandma has been with me for so many years. Although she never says it, I know she misses you very much. Now you can be together forever."

She looked up at the sky, it was clear and cloudless, but she smiled at the sky, as if she were her grandmother.

Grandma, you must be happy in heaven. Yanyan will definitely work hard and will not let you down.

Yan Cuo sat for a while and then prepared to get up and leave. Before leaving, he kept looking back, feeling reluctant.

Grandma, I have to leave first. I will come to see you tomorrow. I will chat with you these few days and will not let you feel lonely.

Yan Cuo walked towards the foot of the mountain, feeling a little reluctant. His mind was full of his grandmother's appearance, but he didn't notice the person who suddenly appeared in front of him.
