Chapter 144 Inquiry
The busy tone of the phone sounded particularly harsh in the silent room, but Han held the phone with a slight chill in his fingertips.
After a long time, Xie Ming's cold voice finally came from the receiver: "Ms. Han, what can I do for you?" His tone was cold and distant.
Han was stunned for a moment, but she suppressed her discomfort and said softly, "Xie Ming, I'm sorry to bother you, but I have something I want to ask you for a favor..."
"Help?" Xie Ming snorted coldly and said sarcastically, "Oh, Miss Han, why would you ask me for help? What can an unemployed young man like me do for you? Besides, don't you have Gu Ningwei? How can it be my turn to help you?"
Han, listening to his strange tone, knew that he and Gu Ningwei had offended him before, and he was still angry, so he had to patiently apologize: "Xie Ming, we offended you before. I apologize and ask for your forgiveness, but now I really need your help with something, and this matter is also of interest to you..."
Han paused deliberately, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated, and his tone seemed to reveal something.
"What's the matter?" Xie Ming was indeed aroused by her attitude. As a professional reporter, he was sensitive enough to quickly catch the hint in Han Que's tone, and the coldness in his voice faded a little.
"It's related to Chengguang Group." Han Que said briefly.
He glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw Gu Ningli beside him looking at him with surprise and vigilance.
Han ignored her look and continued, "Let me tell you this, the audit report you've always wanted is now in Jiang Jin's hands."
"I know that." Xie Ming interrupted her impatiently, "Anything else?"
"Perhaps there are more things in his possession that you didn't know about before." Han deliberately lowered his voice: "Those things I think you will be more interested in."
"Something I'm interested in?" Xie Ming pondered for a moment, then suddenly sneered, "Han Que, I've asked you to help me time and time again, but you refused. Why are you suddenly looking for me now? Just tell me, what are you planning?"
His tone was sharp, like an angry hedgehog, and he clearly didn't believe her sudden advances.
Han sighed slightly after hearing this. He had obviously underestimated Xie Ming's intelligence. So, he had no choice but to tell the truth. He simply confessed, "Xie Ming, Jiang Jin is missing and we can't find him. This involves Cheng Guang's inside story, so we can't call the police for now. I'd like to ask you for a favor. Can you use your connections to find out where he is?"
"Missing?" Xie Ming's voice suddenly rose, his journalistic sensitivity instantly alerting him. "When? How was he discovered? Who was his last contact?"
In front of Gu Ningli, Han didn't want to explain too much. He just briefly described the situation Gu Ningli had described, and finally said directly: "We haven't received any information from the traffic police yet, so it shouldn't be a car accident..."
"Don't speculate yet. I'll go get some information first." Xie Ming interrupted Han Que and regained his composure. "We'll contact each other when we have news."
After saying that, he simply hung up the phone.
After putting down their phones, Han Que and Gu Ningli sat in silence. The only sounds in the room were their heavy breathing. After a moment, Gu Ningli seemed to have thought of something. She stared at Han Que suspiciously and asked, "Who is this person? Why is he so interested in Cheng Guang's affairs?"
Han pursed his lips and could only say vaguely, "He's a reporter who has reported on Cheng Guang's case before."
"Reporter?" Gu Ningli narrowed her eyes slightly and asked, "What did you say his name was?"
"Xie Ming." Han Que said, noticing something was wrong with her, and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Xie Ming?!" Gu Ningli suddenly stood up from the sofa, her face flushed. She stared at Han Que's face and shouted angrily, "You actually went to find Xie Ming? Do you know who he is? Han Que, my brother said you were here to help me, but you found a reporter instead. What are you thinking?"
Her voice trembled with anger, her eyes staring straight at Han Que, pointing at her: "You..."
She was so angry that she couldn't continue.
Han did not expect her to react like this. She knew that something was wrong and was secretly glad that she had insisted on getting Gu Ningwei's consent. Otherwise, this girl would have jumped three feet high, thinking that she was deliberately harming them.
She gathered herself, looked up at Gu Ningli's angry face, and said calmly, "What's wrong with Xie Ming? He's a reporter, he has connections, and only he can find out what we don't know. Otherwise, do you have someone more suitable to ask for information?"
"But do you know how much negative material Xie Ming has written about our Gu family and Chengguang?" Gu Ningli was trembling with anger. "If my father hadn't used his connections to suppress it, who knows how much more trouble he would have caused. And you actually...actually went to him..."
She choked up, sat down on the sofa again, and said dejectedly: "You all said you would help me, but who knows what tricks you were plotting behind my back? You actually went to our enemy..."
"That's because your family has also done things they shouldn't have." Han said mercilessly, "Since you know it's black material, then you know these things exist. If you don't want others to know, then don't do it yourself. Don't you understand this principle, Miss Gu?"
"But some things cannot be made public. Xie Ming simply has bad intentions."
Han looked at her, a hint of mockery playing on his lips. "Gu Ningli, don't forget that your Chengguang Group is a listed company, a public company. According to the law, it is required to disclose information on its own initiative. You didn't disclose it on your own initiative, and even hired someone to use their connections to suppress something that the people should know. Who do you think is wrong?"
Gu Ningli stared at Han Que: "..."
Han ignored her and said coldly, "If you think I shouldn't ask Xie Ming, then you can find someone else to ask. I don't have anyone else to ask, so you can decide for yourself."
After saying that, she leaned back on the sofa and looked at her phone without saying a word.
The room was silent.
It was so quiet that you could hear the breathing between the two people.
It seemed like a lot of time had passed before Gu Ningli started crying again, and her low sobs could be heard.
Han ignored her and continued looking at her mobile phone. She did not go to the company today, and there were many unfinished things to be dealt with in her mobile phone's mailbox and OA system.
While handling her affairs, she forced herself to suppress the restlessness in her heart.
She was wondering where Jiang Jin would go.
When he agreed to meet Gu Ningli, did he not realize that he would be in danger?
Han thought about it again and felt that something was wrong. She knew Jiang Jin's personality. He was a very cautious person. Since he was able to remind Gu Ningwei and ask him to pay attention to his own danger, he would not have thought about what problems he would encounter once the report was exposed.
But where is he now? Where is the data he has?
Gu Ningli cried for a while, but when she saw Han ignored her, she gradually stopped crying. She covered her cheeks and murmured anxiously, "I really don't know what to do. You all have ulterior motives. I really don't know who to trust."
"Trust your brother." Han put down his phone and said firmly, "I have discussed this with your brother. You can ask Xie Ming for information. This decision was made by me and your brother as well."
Gu Ningli raised her head and looked at her confusedly.
"It is precisely because Xie Ming knows the inside story of Chengguang that he was able to find out the news." Han Que explained in a gentle tone.
But in his heart he was thinking, "I'm afraid he wants to know Jiang Jin's whereabouts as soon as possible even more than you do."
Xie Ming quickly replied to Han Que: "I've inquired, and there were no traffic accidents on the road from Chengguang Group back to the address I gave you yesterday. You can rest assured about this."
Han glanced at Gu Ningli, and only then did their tense nerves relax a little.
"Thank you, that's great." Han Que said, and after thinking for a while, she asked, "Can we adjust the traffic monitoring to track the vehicles in Jiangjin?" As she spoke, she looked up at Gu Ningli and motioned for her to report the license plate number.
Gu Ningli reluctantly reported Jiang Jin's license plate.
Xie Ming said: "This is a bit difficult. You have to give me some time. I will find someone to try it." Then he hung up the phone again.
Han glanced at Gu Ningli and said softly, "We can't help but ask Xie Ming for information. I heard Ah Wei mention that Jiang Jin has some evidence that others don't want to expose..."
She paused, her eyes deep, "If anyone wants to harm him, that person definitely won't be Xie Ming."
Gu Ningli stared at her blankly, and after a long pause she stammered, "Are you talking about my dad?"
Assistant Jin came out of the tea room holding a teacup. As he passed the door of the conference room, he seemed to suddenly remember something, stopped, and looked hesitant.
Dong Xue, the secretary in Gu Zhicheng's office, also walked past him with a teacup in hand. Seeing this, she smiled and said, "Assistant Jin, why are you here?"
Assistant Jin glanced at her and didn't intend to hide it from her: "I want to see what's going on inside. Our Lao Gu..."
He sighed deliberately: "Our Mr. Gu has high blood pressure. He told me he had a headache this morning. I was worried that he wouldn't be able to handle it. I wanted to send him some medicine, but I felt it was inappropriate..."
Dong Xue nodded, expressing her understanding. "Yes, the meeting lasted all day yesterday. Our old Gu was also..." She shook her head and said in a low voice, "He has a terrible temper. I heard him scolding Old Xie early in the morning when I came to work."
Assistant Jin said "Oh" and frowned, his expression thoughtful: "What did he curse at? What does it have to do with Old Xie..."
Dong Xue grumbled, then muttered even more quietly, "What else can I say? He's the secretary of the board, and he doesn't know what's going on. He had to wait until the two little ones exposed the matter before he found out. Now he doesn't know what to do next..."
Assistant Jin frowned even more: "That's what Director Gu said..."
Dong Xue nodded and tiptoed to Assistant Jin's ear. "Director Gu even scolded Young Boss Gu, saying he was ignorant and only cared about breaking the sky without thinking about how to mend it..."
She shook her head after saying that: "Well, the group was already in trouble, and now..." She paused: "I think we all have to think about finding other jobs..."
"Don't talk nonsense, it won't be that bad." Assistant Jin deliberately scolded her softly, and then reminded her seriously: "You can say these things to me, but don't tell anyone else."
Dong Xue nodded, lowered her head, and said obediently: "Thank you, Brother Jin, I won't say anything more."
"Hey, I have to deliver medicine to Lao Gu. It seems like this won't be over in a short time." Assistant Jin changed the subject.
"Then you can send a message to Secretary Xie and ask him to come out and get it." Dong Xue gave him advice.
Assistant Jin nodded: "You are right."
Just as he was about to turn around, he suddenly heard a bang in the conference room, as if a teacup had been broken.
"Oh, you're so angry." Dong Xue stuck out her tongue and quickly slipped away, not forgetting to remind Assistant Jin: "Assistant Jin, you should wait a while before delivering the medicine. Be careful not to harm the fish pond."
Secretary Jin was stunned. The blinds in the conference room were drawn tightly, making it airtight and impossible to see anything going on inside.
He stood there for a while, then turned and left.
