Chapter 18 Breakup
Zhou Wenwen followed Han Que and asked as they walked, "Why are you leaving? Are you waiting for Lu Xiaoping to pick you up?"
Han didn't even turn his head: "Let's take a taxi. Who asked him to pick me up?"
As he was speaking, the phone in his hand rang, and the words "Lu Xiaoping" flashed and jumped on the screen.
Zhou Wenwen saw it, squinted her eyes and smiled, "Someone is here to pick you up, I'll take a taxi and leave first."
"No, you're on your way, so you can just give me a ride." Han pulled her arm, and with his other hand, he turned off the screen of his phone and put it in his bag, leaving it vibrating in the bag.
Zhou Wenwen signaled her with her eyes. The phone in her bag was still vibrating, but Han curled his lips and snorted, "I don't want to bother with him."
After leaving the bar, the two waited for an online taxi on the side of the road. The evening breeze was a bit chilly, but Han straightened the collar of his suit with one hand, and brushed his blown hair with the other hand, sneezing several times in a row.
Zhou Wenwen glanced at her and asked, "Are you catching a cold?"
"No." Han tightened his collar and muttered, "I've been annoyed so much that my immunity has dropped."
Zhou Wenwen thought for a moment and then asked, "Because of Lu Xiaoping?"
Han nodded. "By the afternoon, he must have sobered up. He kept calling and texting, explaining and apologizing. It was so noisy that it was annoying. I didn't have the heart to pay attention to him."
Zhou Wenwen sighed and felt a little sympathy for Lu Xiaoping. He probably didn't know that the girlfriend he had spent half a year pursuing had changed her mind.
"If you want to break it off, you have to break it off properly." She said softly
Han turned his head and gave her an ambiguous look, then turned away again. The trunks of the sycamore trees on the roadside were wrapped with light strips, like stars.
After a moment of silence, she whispered to herself, "Actually, I shouldn't have provoked Lu Xiaoping. Since I didn't like him, I shouldn't have agreed to him. But unfortunately, I'm not the kind of woman with a will as strong as steel. I can't be loyal to a lost relationship for the rest of my life. I'll be soft-hearted, comfort myself, and numb myself..."
She shook her head: "Actually, you're asking for trouble."
Zhou Wenwen remained silent. After a while, the car she called arrived. She asked Han Que to get in first and she sat in the front seat.
The online taxi was traveling on a quiet road, with thick-branched sycamore trees on both sides, dark and deep.
At another street corner, the lights gradually brightened, and the trees along the road were newly planted cherry trees. When the wind blew, the petals fell in a riot of color.
There were people vaguely checking in and taking photos under the tree. A girl in a Japanese school uniform was holding a transparent umbrella and laughing under the tree.
Zhou Wenwen looked out the window and sighed, "Student days were so good, carefree. Unlike now, it's full of worries."
Han smiled and said, "Wenwen, what worries do you have? You have no worries about food and clothing, a happy family, a leisurely job, money and free time. You just lack a boyfriend now. And I..."
She smiled bitterly and didn't want to say anything more.
Or maybe everyone has their own troubles, she doesn't know Zhou Wenwen's, she only sees her carefree appearance.
Zhou Wenwen sat in the front row, also silent.
The two of them were silent all the way, each with their own thoughts.
When they arrived, Han got out of the car, opened the door, and turned back to Zhou Wenwen and said, "I'm going to talk to Lu Xiaoping tomorrow and cut off this relationship so you don't have to look at me with such critical eyes."
Zhou Wenwen said: "I'm not sympathizing with Lu Xiaoping, I'm worried about you. You've changed people around you one after another, but you've never met someone who can understand you."
Han smiled and said, "My grandmother always said that a man who is reliable can climb a tree like a sow. You and I are educated young people who have been to college, so we must be better than an old woman."
After she finished speaking, she got out of the car and walked into the dim alley. A dim street light stretched her shadow long, making her look even lonelier.
Zhou Wenwen looked at her back in the car and sighed silently.
The next day, Han sent a message to Lu Xiaoping, asking him to meet and put an end to the matter.
Lu Xiaoping did not respond.
Han felt something was wrong, but she didn't think much about it. She was very busy organizing various data and information.
She hadn't slept well the night before, having a restless night of dreams. When she woke up this morning, her memory was hazy. She only remembered being transported back to her school days, kissing Jiang Jin in the darkness of an alley after evening study, their breaths entwined, nearly suffocating. She could still remember his hand slid into the collar of her school shirt, pushing aside her cotton bra, kneading her breasts until they hurt. She whimpered, almost crying... and then she woke up, drenched in a cold sweat, her chest still aching.
Han couldn't sleep anymore, so she played with her mobile phone in bed for a while. When it was dawn, she got up, washed up, and went to the entrance of the alley to buy some sesame cakes. She came back and boiled water in the small kitchen and cooked a pot of porridge.
While she was boiling eggs, she saw the door of the room opposite open. Grandma Jiang came out with a plastic bag, going out to buy groceries. She looked up and saw Han staring at her. She was startled and rolled her eyes, "Girl, why don't you sleep in so early in the morning? You're scaring me."
Han thought for a moment and asked her, "Grandma Jiang, you went out to buy groceries so early in the morning. Do you have any guests coming to your house?"
When Jiang Jin came back, he always went to visit his grandmother. This was where he had lived since he was a child and it was his safe haven during his youth.
Grandma Jiang shook her head and sighed, "Who would come to see an old woman like me who is about to be buried? You know that."
Grandma Jiang doesn't interact with her son and daughter-in-law. Except during the holidays, she rarely sees them visit her.
Han paused and asked her, "Where is your grandson? Why doesn't he come to see you?"
Grandma Jiang was stunned for a moment and pretended to be deaf and dumb: "What?"
Han leaned in front of her and deliberately raised his voice: "Where's Jiang Jin? He's rich now, why doesn't he take you away to enjoy a peaceful life, or come to visit you?"
A trace of panic flashed across Grandma Jiang's sunken eyes. She waved her hands and walked away, muttering all the way: "Hurry up and buy groceries. You hurry up and do your own things. You young people can't be late for work. If you are late, your salary will be deducted..."
Han didn't say anything. She looked at the old lady's back as she tried to avoid her and sneered slightly.
This old lady knows everything.
She didn't believe that Jiang Jin would do anything extreme, but seeing Grandma Jiang's attitude reminded her that her existence was a time bomb that could explode at any time for Jiang Jin today.
It brought out the past that he didn't want to mention and couldn't bear to look back on.
Lu Xiaoping didn't reply to Han Que's message for the whole morning. During lunch break, Han Que was eating rice with toppings and called him, but a mechanical female voice told her that the phone was turned off.
Han had Chen Yayi's WeChat, so he thought about it and decided to give up.
Lu Xiaoping's abnormality naturally has his reasons. He is a throwaway lover and now he is just returning to his original nature.
Two days later, Han received a strange text message from someone claiming to be Lu Xiaoping's mother.
In the text message, she called Han Que a bitch and warned her to stay away from her son, otherwise she would be rude to her. She also told her that she would not pay her a penny and not to blackmail them by relying on her relationship with Lu Xiaoping.
Han did not reply or delete the message.
She thought about it, took a screenshot of the text message and sent it to the small group with Zhou Wenwen and Fang Jiayan.
She actually wanted to send it to Zhou Wenwen alone, but doing so would be too deliberate and would hurt Zhou Wenwen's face.
Zhou Wenwen didn't say anything. Fang Jiayan gave her a rose and said, "Congratulations on breaking up."
A few days later, Han saw Lu Xiaoping's circle of friends, which showed that he was already traveling in Thailand, enjoying the blue sea and sky, yacht parties, and bikini beauties by his side, and he didn't want to leave.
Han gave a thumbs up.
