Chapter 61 Visitation
Gu Ningwei walked out of the elevator and saw Han Que sitting on a bench in a daze.
Han walked closer and looked down at her. Her face was haggard and her eyes were dull, completely unlike her usual lively self.
He felt a pain in his heart. If he had known this would happen, he should not have involved her in this cannibalistic circle.
But it's too late now.
He extended his fingers and gently touched her shoulder.
Han was startled and looked up. Seeing Gu Ningwei, she was stunned for a moment and asked softly, "Why are you here?"
Then he understood that it must be Director Pan who told him. Although Director Pan usually looks serious and stern, she is actually Gu Ningwei's confidant. Otherwise, Gu Ningwei would not keep her by his side.
Gu Ningwei frowned and sat down on the bench next to her, completely ignoring the dirty shoe prints on the bench. These were left by the families of patients who lay here to rest at night.
Han pushed him and asked him to stand up. He took out a wet wipe from his bag and wiped the chair before motioning him to sit down: "There is no place to rest here. You can only sleep on the bench."
Gu Ningwei asked, "What about you? Did you sleep here last night too?"
Han nodded, then shook her head. How could she fall asleep? She just sat on the bench all night, and waited for visiting time the next morning to go in and take a look.
Liu Suping lay on the hospital bed with her eyes closed, breathing oxygen. The needle of the indwelling needle on the back of her hand was inserted into the drip, and her wrists and ankles were clamped with clips of dynamic monitoring devices. She also had an unknown monitoring device on her back.
There was a beeping sound from the monitor next to the bed.
Hearing the noise, he opened his eyes, looked at her, then turned his back and ignored her.
Han felt upset but didn't dare to say anything. The doctor said the patient had a sudden myocardial infarction and his indicators were more than 20 times higher than the standard. If he had been sent to the hospital later, he would have died.
I specifically told her not to irritate the patient anymore.
Han Que nodded repeatedly. She was very scared that day. The moment Liu Suping fell down, she felt like the sky was falling. She didn't think of anything else until Grandma Jiang helped call an ambulance to send her to the hospital. Fortunately, the doctor on duty was young but experienced. After a series of examinations, he determined that it was a heart attack and rushed her to the ICU, isolating Han Que outside.
After Han finished a series of procedures and took a breath, she remembered to send a message to Director Pan, telling her that her mother was sick and she needed to take a leave and would not be able to come to work for a few days. Thinking of the documents that had not been sorted out, she was afraid that Gu Ningwei would ask about them anxiously, so she asked Director Pan to keep them well and not let the news leak out.
Director Pan's attitude remained calm. He asked her which hospital she was in and whether she needed to find someone to say hello. However, Han said that she didn't need to for the time being. Her good friend was a doctor in this hospital, so it shouldn't be a big problem.
Director Pan said, that’s good, and told her to just stay with the patient and not to worry about anything else.
Han was very grateful. Director Pan sighed and said, "It's good that you haven't come to the company recently. The 24th floor is not peaceful. There are people who come here to spy on information. Mr. Gu won't be coming here recently."
Han was stunned for a moment, then whispered, "I'm sorry for causing you trouble."
Director Pan said in a flat voice, "You don't need to apologize. Mr. Gu pays me, so it's only natural that I follow his instructions."
Han Que originally thought that given Director Pan's age and personality, she would be prejudiced against people like him, but he didn't expect that she really kept her public and private lives separate.
"How is your mother?" Gu Ningwei asked softly, "Did the doctor say there are any treatment options?"
"Not yet. The doctor said to stabilize the condition first, and then conduct examinations and observations. He hasn't talked to me about the treatment plan yet." Han Que said softly.
"Hmm." Gu Ningwei frowned, thought for a moment, and asked in a low voice, "Does your mother have heart problems?"
Han shook her head: "She didn't have it before, but she hasn't had a physical examination for several years, so I don't know..." Her voice gradually became lower and she couldn't continue. She felt extremely guilty. Liu Suping refused to go to the hospital, saying that she had been to the hospital enough and didn't want to step into the hospital again even if she died of illness.
However, Han knew that she had accompanied Han Yourong to see the doctor during those years and had suffered enough torture. She hated the hospital to the core, so she naturally did not dare to take her for a physical examination or to see the doctor. If Liu Suping had not fainted and lost consciousness this time, she might not have been able to move her at all.
"Then why did the disease suddenly occur this time?" Gu Ningwei asked again.
Han looked up at him again, biting his lip and saying nothing.
Gu Ningwei raised his eyebrows and stared at her with a questioning look.
Han could only say, "Yesterday evening, a few strangers came to my house... They probably said something to my mother or showed her something, and she..." She paused and lowered her voice, "... My mother is a conservative person, she can't stand this..."
Gu Ningwei's eyebrows twitched, and he asked again: "Who did you meet?"
Han nodded, "I saw a few, but I don't know if anyone else has been here before."
"Who are they?" Gu Ningwei asked with a frown.
"Some said they were from financial media, some said they were from self-media... Anyway, it was a mess. I didn't let them in and didn't ask." Han sighed. She felt a little regretful. If she had known earlier that it was the reporter named "Xie Ming", she should have told Gu Ningwei the first time that day.
But that night, she was angry with him because of He Lian. In fact, what right did she have to be angry? She was his real girlfriend and they were about to get engaged.
"Financial media?" Gu Ningwei sneered, his eyes dark and sneered. "What financial media? Have you ever seen a serious financial media pay attention to gossip or rumors?"
"But? There are some things I can't figure out." Han looked at Gu Ningwei and hesitated to speak.
Gu Ningwei took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and calmed himself down. When he opened his eyes again, he had regained his composure.
"Ask whatever you want to ask." Gu Ningwei saw her confusion and said, "Just ask whatever you have."
Han thought for a moment, frowned, and whispered, "I remember you had already decided to acquire Li Zhekai's company before you met me. Why did you later spread the rumor that it was because of a woman? I've been thinking about it, but I still don't understand."
"Well, it turns out you were eavesdropping on our conversation that day." Gu Ningwei glanced at her.
Han Que's ears burned, but he continued to argue, "I didn't mean it. You spoke so loudly, mentioning Li Zhekai. It was hard for me not to hear it."
"Look, I'm not blaming you, but you're getting anxious." Gu Ningwei smiled. He pondered for a moment and said, "Actually, after talking with Lao Lin that day, I did hesitate. Because of Chengguang's timing, my every move will be monitored, including the flow of funds."
Han's eyes widened in surprise.
Gu Ningwei nodded seriously and whispered, "It's that serious."
"Since my actions are under surveillance, my acquisition of Li Zhekai's company will undoubtedly cause a lot of speculation outside. This speculation is detrimental to both me and Cheng Guang. Furthermore, this is a very sensitive time, so all sorts of speculations will arise."
"So you used me as a cover and said that you were just joking for a woman?" Han Quebiao looked up at him deeply, pretending to be calm, but she was frightened in her heart. She initially thought that Gu Ningwei was a frivolous young man who was attracted by beauty, but gradually she found that he was actually scheming with every step he took.
"Did you plan this scheme in the teahouse that day before attending Lu Xiaoping's birthday party?"
Gu Ningwei stared at her for a long moment, then gently brushed her hair with his hand and said softly, "It's not good for a girl to be too smart."
"I'm not smart, I'm just too stupid." Han turned her head away, dodged his hand, and murmured, "I just said that we can't mess with people like you. Now..." She thought of the overwhelming scandals on the Internet and was almost in tears.
"I'm not a bad person. I do have a lot on my mind, but I'm forced to do so." Gu Ningwei put his arm around her shoulders. "I'm sorry I've wronged you. Don't worry, I'll make it up to you after this period of time passes."
Compensation? Han sneered. What kind of compensation? Money again?
Besides money, what else can Gu Ningwei give her?
But on second thought, wasn't it agreed at the beginning that the only thing he could give her was money?
But now that her affair has been exposed, her reputation has been damaged, and Liu Suping's body obviously cannot withstand the blow. Her relationship with Gu Ningwei is also coming to an end.
All this will be over soon. She can get the money and what she wants. Anyway, the storm of public opinion will soon pass. Within a month, no one will remember her as an insignificant pawn.
But why do I feel so sad?
Gu Ningwei looked at the expression on her face and saw that she had her head down and a few tears in her eyes.
He thought she was worried about her mother's illness, so he leaned over and rested his head against hers, saying softly, "Don't worry. I've already spoken to the vice president before going upstairs. Your mother's condition is fine. Once she can be transferred to a regular ward, I'll arrange for her to stay in the high-ranking cadre ward over there. It's safe and quiet there, and she won't be disturbed. Don't worry."
Han sniffed and muttered, "If you transfer her to the high-ranking cadres' ward, what should I tell her? Tell her that it was my shameless daughter who found a man to get her in? My mother would rather hang herself than go there."
"Don't worry about this, I have already arranged it. Don't you have a good friend in this hospital? Just mention her relationship when the time comes." Gu Ningwei smiled confidently.
Han sighed and did not refuse again. Now, as long as she could settle Liu Suping, she would not care about so many things.
The ICU ward does not allow free visiting, so there are not many family members. The corridor is quiet with people coming and going, most of whom are doctors and nurses. They are walking hurriedly and are so busy that no one pays attention to the young man and woman wearing baseball caps.
Gu Ningwei sat side by side with her, silent and quiet for a while. After a while, Gu Ningwei's fingers slowly stretched along the edge of the plastic seat, held Han Que's fingers, intertwined their fingers, and applied a little force.
The two of them held hands and sat in silence for a while. Gu Ningwei stood up, lowered his head and said, "I'm leaving."
Han nodded and said, "Go ahead and get busy."
She knew that he still had a lot of troubles to deal with, unlike her who could temporarily avoid them.
Gu Ningwei nodded: "I'll come and accompany you after I'm done with my work."
Han shook her head: "You don't have to come again. What if someone sees you..." She wanted to say that it would cause a lot of trouble again.
Gu Ningwei shrugged, smiled playfully, and said to himself, "It's already like this, what's there to be afraid of? I might as well just give up. What can they do to me?"
He was about to leave when Han said, "Wait." She stood up and walked over to Gu Ningwei, raising her hand to touch a small bruise on his cheek. Gu Ningwei hissed, "Don't move."
Han put down his finger, frowned and asked, "What happened to you? Did you bump into something?"
Gu Ningwei shook his head and said with a smile, "I got slapped by the old man."
Han stared at him in surprise again. Gu Ningwei sighed and said half-jokingly, "You see, we, this pair of ill-fated lovers, are really suffering." After that, he turned and walked to the elevator entrance and stood with his back to her for a long time.
After a while, the elevator door opened and Fang Jiayan came out. She almost bumped into the person in front of her. She looked up and felt that the face was familiar. Just as she was about to take a closer look, the other person nodded at her and then entered the elevator.
Fang Jiayan turned around and said to Han Que, "Why does this person look so familiar to me?"
Han sighed and said, "Of course it looks familiar. I saw it online a few days ago."
Fang Jiayan's eyes suddenly widened: "Him? It's Gu..."
Han hissed and nodded.
