Chapter 58 Floating Marks
Han looked down at the thick stack of documents on the table, silent.
Gu Ningwei was silent for a moment. Seeing that she didn't refute him, he became even more angry. He continued stiffly, "Didn't I tell you from the beginning that I really like you? I didn't mean to..."
"Is there a difference?" Han Que suddenly spoke, interrupting Gu Ningwei. Her dark eyes stared at him with a bright look. "What is the difference?"
"?" Gu Ningwei was stunned, seemingly not understanding what Han Que meant. "What do you mean by different? What is different from what?"
"You really don't understand?" Seeing Gu Ningwei shake his head, Han smiled slightly and continued, "Whether you did it intentionally or not, what difference does it make to the outcome? Yes, you did say you liked me, and I know you weren't deliberately using me. He Lian even said you've never lacked women around you, so there's no need to go to all that trouble for me."
"Yes, I've never lacked women." Gu Ningwei: "Even if Chengguang Group is finished, with me, Gu Ningwei, I won't lack women."
"Then, since you've never lacked women, why do you have to stare at me?" Han bit her lip, paused, and asked sarcastically, "Why do you have to stare at me? Why do you have to be angry about what I said? The two of us, I mean you and I, have never made long-term plans. You said you were going to get engaged to He Lian and get married in three months, and we were going to have a countdown relationship. Okay, I agree." Seeing Gu Ningwei open his mouth to say something, she waved her hand and stopped him from continuing: "Listen to me, since you have thought so from the beginning and have formulated the rules of the game according to this path, I have not expressed any objection and am also following the rules of the game you set. Do you have any opinions now?"
"I don't have any objections." Gu Ningwei said, "Did I mention I have any objections?"
Han nodded, "Okay, as long as you have no objection."
After a moment, she raised her eyes and said softly to Gu Ningwei, "Don't be greedy.
Gu Ningwei was stunned when he heard this, pursed his lips and did not speak for a long time.
Han stopped looking at Gu Ningwei and began to tidy up the items on the desk. She turned off the computer, put the organized written materials into the drawer, locked the drawer, picked up her canvas bag, stood up, and said to Gu Ningwei: "Well, Mr. Gu, I'm going to get off work. When you leave, please lock the door." As she said that, she pulled out the chair and prepared to go out.
Passing by Gu Ningwei, he reached out and grabbed her, pulling her hard, but Han lost her balance and fell into his arms.
Gu Ningwei stared at her with his dark eyes, his deep gaze seemed to look into her eyes, but Han turned her face away, trying to avoid his gaze. She struggled to stand up, but Gu Ningwei's arms were tightly wrapped around her waist. Her breathing was disordered, her chest was heaving, and her palms were pushing away his body that was leaning over her, and her eyes suddenly turned red.
Gu Ningwei suddenly stopped moving, staring quietly at her trembling eyelashes. After a pause, he said, "What's wrong? Are you crying?"
Han turned his face away, not looking at him, and shook his head in denial: "Who is crying?"
Gu Ningwei's fingers gently brushed across her dense eyelashes, like butterfly wings trembling in his palm. He whispered, "Then why are these eyelashes wet?"
Han closed his eyes and spat at him, "It's eye drops."
Gu Ningwei chuckled and pinched her nose: "What brand of eye drops does it take so long?"
Han Queyi bit her lip and ignored him. The thoughts in her heart were like plankton swimming in the deep sea, floating silently and uneasy.
Gu Ningwei stared at her intently for a moment, then pulled her into his arms. His rough chin caressed the delicate skin beside her temples, and he said softly, "Okay, don't be angry. It's all my fault."
Han bit his lip and was silent for a moment, then said, "There's nothing wrong with you, and you haven't done anything wrong."
Gu Ningwei was silent for a moment, then he sighed deeply and looked out the window. He whispered, "You're so stubborn. Can't you say something nice, even to comfort me?"
Outside the floor-to-ceiling glass windows is the dark blue sky. The skyscrapers opposite are dotted with stars and brightly lit. A half moon floats in the thick clouds, overlooking everything in the world.
The glass windows of the studio face the garden. Late May, late spring and early summer is the season when grass and trees grow wildly. The branches and vines of the plants emerge from the cracks in the wall, climbing tenaciously, entwining on the fences and window frames, dividing the floor into different shadows.
He Lian lay on the floor, squinting her eyes, staring at the shadows entwined on her fair skin. As her body moved, the shadows became more and more chaotic, turning into a tangled mess. She closed her eyes and seemed to have entered a state, but the next second she suddenly exerted force, pushed away the man crawling on her, turned over and sat up, turned on the floor lamp, walked naked and barefoot to the easel beside her, picked up the oil pastel, and painted on the canvas in one breath.
The young man she pushed away was obviously used to her behavior. He sat on the floor, took a few deep breaths, picked up his pants from the floor, and put them on. He Lian heard the sound and without turning her head, she ordered coldly: "Don't leave."
The man was stunned. His pants were half on and the other half was still hanging by his leg. He didn't have time to pull them up. He was stunned for a moment, then simply took off the other leg of pants and sat naked on the floor.
He Lian looked back at the embarrassment and confusion on the young man's face and giggled. She raised her arm holding the paintbrush and pointed to the bed next to her, "Go to bed."
The man stood up obediently and prepared to walk to the bed. He Lianbai rolled his eyes and said, "Go take a shower first. You're so dirty. Don't dirty my bed."
The sound of running water could be heard in the bathroom. He Lian looked at the canvas in front of her, the entangled branches, the naked body, the vague and blurred faces, another homogeneous work. She threw down the oil pastel in her hand in annoyance, picked up the silk pajamas, shook them, and casually draped them over her body. She walked to the bed, crossed her legs, picked up her mobile phone, looked at it for a few seconds, and threw it down in annoyance again.
The water in the bathroom stopped, and a man came out with a white bath towel around his waist. He walked in front of He Lian. He looked up at him. He had broad shoulders, a thin waist, eight abdominal muscles, and muscle lines full of the power of ancient Roman sculptures. She stroked the young body, but her eyes were empty as she looked through his body to the window.
It seemed like an endless desert with no end in sight.
The man waited for a while, knelt on one knee beside the bed, looked up at He Lian's delicate and indifferent face, then carefully opened the hem of her pajamas and leaned over her body.
When He Lian heard that Gu Ningwei was coming, she hadn't gotten up yet.
According to her previous schedule, she usually only slept until 11 o'clock in the morning, but she played too hard last night and was extremely exhausted.
She struggled to get up, but couldn't hold on any longer and fell back down. So, out of spite, she decided to stay in bed for a while longer and asked Gu Ningwei to wait in the living room. The male model from last night had already left, and He Lian never let people like them spend the night here, so as to prevent them from having any improper thoughts.
Twenty minutes later, He Lian finally emerged from the studio. Gu Ningwei turned around and saw her wearing an ankle-length cotton silk dress, her hair tied in a loose ponytail, and her face clean. She smiled at Gu Ningwei without saying a word, "Ah Wei, why are you here? Aren't you afraid of being photographed?"
Gu Ningwei chuckled and shrugged nonchalantly, "What's there to be afraid of now?"
He Lian nodded in agreement. "Yeah, let's film it. It's trending now, so we're really famous." She sat down on the sofa, picked up a bottle of Evian mineral water from the table, and drank it slowly. Gu Ningwei stared at her neck and frowned slightly.
He Lian pulled her collar a little uncomfortably to hide the dark red marks.
Gu Ningwei also sat down on the sofa in front of her, crossed his legs comfortably, and said with a smile, "He Lian, I want to know what kind of promise did my uncle make to you that you wanted to take out those old photos and give them to the media?"
He Lian was stunned for a moment, then curled her lips and said, "What do you mean by that? When did I collude with Gu Zhiguang? He was only looking for my father and my grandfather, and it had nothing to do with me."
Gu Ningwei raised his eyebrows: "Those photos weren't provided to them by your father or grandfather, were they?"
He Lian asked, "Which photos?" She pretended to think for a moment before understanding what he meant. She said disapprovingly, "You mean those old photos? I didn't give them to you. To be honest, it's not like the media didn't take pictures of them back then. If they have the guts to dig them up, there's nothing I can do about it."
Gu Ningwei chuckled and said, "I've already had all the photos taken by the media deleted. They won't be circulated."
He Lian frowned and argued, "If I delete it, there won't be any records left? Besides, they're all electronic versions, so it won't be easy to retrieve them."
Gu Ningwei crossed his arms and looked at her sarcastically.
He Lian knew she couldn't hide it, so she could only smile disguisingly: "Don't worry about those photos, they've been exposed now anyway. You never come to my house without a reason, so why are you here today?"
Gu Ningwei sighed slightly and said, "I don't want to visit you, but if you and I go to a public place now, it will only cause unnecessary trouble."
He Lian smiled and said, "Why is it a problem? Your Chengguang Group's stock has been revived these past few days and has risen a lot. Isn't it all thanks to the scandal between us? You think it's a problem, but your father and your uncle don't think it's a problem."
Gu Ningwei lowered his head, touched his nose, and chuckled.
As she spoke, she picked up the mineral water bottle in her hand, raised her head and drank it all in one gulp. Her fingers wiped the water droplets from her lips and continued to smile: "Are you looking for me just to question me about the photo?"
Gu Ningwei said calmly, "I want to make it clear to you. Don't forget the agreement we made, and don't create new topics. My uncle's affairs are his business, but if you still consider me a friend, don't get involved." He paused and said, "I don't care what your purpose is."
He Lian's expression changed slightly, and she squinted at him, "Ah Wei, are you warning me? For a poor, insignificant girl, you took it seriously?"
Gu Ningwei frowned slightly and looked at He Lian in surprise. "He Lian, I really didn't expect you to have such thoughts. When you were dating He Jun, he was also a poor boy."
He Lian's face suddenly darkened, and her voice rose sharply, "Don't mention He Jun." She gritted her teeth and said, "I hate him, but he's so good. He just died and didn't care what I had to do."
Gu Ningwei was silent for a moment, then stood up and said, "I'm leaving now. I don't want to argue with you anymore. You should have a good rest."
He turned and walked to the door, thought for a moment, then turned back to He Lian and said, "Send me the address of next month's touring art exhibition. I'll see how much I can arrange for you then." He glanced at her and smiled, "Gu Zhiguang is a miser. Don't trust his promises."
