Chapter 142 Missing
"Jiang Jin?" Han was also surprised. "How could he?"
"Because of me." Gu Ningwei said concisely and looked at her with deep eyes.
Han was stunned for a moment, then he suddenly realized that Jiang Jin was Gu Ningli's fiancé and Gu Zhiguang's future son-in-law, but in the whole incident, he turned his elbow outward and helped Gu Ningwei. If anyone else was Gu Zhiguang, he would not let him go.
"What's the situation now?" Han asked again with a frown.
"Gu Ningli just sent me a message saying that she couldn't contact Jiang Jin. It has been since last night and she hasn't been able to contact him until now." Gu Ningwei said as he took a shirt and trousers from the cloakroom and put them on hurriedly.
Han also went to get a loose dress and put it on from head to toe.
"Gu Ningli couldn't contact him? That doesn't mean something happened to him. Maybe Jiang Jin just fell asleep, or his phone was turned off, and he had something urgent to do and couldn't get in touch."
Han helped Gu Ningwei analyze the situation and comforted him.
Gu Ningwei paused and was silent for a moment. "Before Jiang Jin left yesterday, he told me that he had arranged for Gu Ningli to wait for him at his place for an important discussion. Now that things have come to this, he's planning to talk it over with Gu Ningli himself. But Gu Ningli just sent me a message saying she'd waited all night, but Jiang Jin hadn't returned home, and his phone was turned off, so she couldn't get in touch with him at all."
"That doesn't mean..." Han tried to calm him down.
"Han Que, Jiang Jinshou previously participated in negotiations with Shunxin Company. He has evidence of Gu Zhiguang's money laundering. I'm worried..."
Gu Ningwei sighed and said nothing more. At this moment, he did not feel any regret for dragging Jiang Jin into this situation.
But if he doesn't involve Jiang Jin, will he not join the game?
He and Gu Ningwei both understood that the reason why Gu Zhiguang agreed to his marriage with Gu Ningli was simply because Jiang Jin's professional level made him very useful.
Jiang Jin actually had no choice. He could either go along with Gu Zhiguang or turn against him and stand on Gu Ningwei's side.
"Are you worried that they will do something bad to him?" Han asked softly, his heart pounding.
"Yes." Gu Ningwei nodded, "Not only that, I need him too."
Han Que uttered an "oh" and asked, "So what are you going to do now? Go see Gu Ningli? Don't you have a board meeting today?"
Gu Ningwei was stunned for a moment, and he suddenly remembered today's meeting.
Yesterday's meeting only reported the results of the audit investigation. There are two more agendas today, and he must attend both.
This was a meeting he could not miss under any circumstances.
Han said decisively: "You go to the meeting, I'll go to see where Jiang Jin lives, you send me the address."
"You're going?" Gu Ningwei frowned and asked worriedly, "How can you go? Your current physical condition..." He shook his head, "I can't let you take any risks."
"It's okay. Didn't you say Gu Ningli was with him? I just went to ask about the situation. It's not dangerous. Gu Ningli won't do anything to me." Han Que comforted.
"Besides, there's no point in being anxious. Even if you go to Gu Ningli, you'll just stare at each other. Just forget about it for now."
"But I don't know what the situation in Jiangjin is now..." Gu Ningwei said irritably, pulling off the tie around his neck and throwing it on the ground.
"Be patient." Han picked up his tie from the ground and stood on tiptoe to tie it for him. "Today's meeting is very important. Go to the meeting calmly. I'll go ask Gu Ningli about the situation and help her find a solution. It will always be better if we both work together..."
She skillfully tied his tie, then stood on tiptoe and pecked his lips gently, "Don't worry."
Gu Ningwei took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. "I'll let Tang Zifeng go with you. He knows Ali, and I'll feel more at ease knowing there's a man with him."
Han nodded. If Tang Zifeng was there, the impact on Gu Ningli would be smaller. She was also a little worried about what Gu Ningli might do in the impulse.
Han went to the bathroom to wash up, and Gu Ningwei was calling Tang Zifeng.
Han heard him discussing something with Tang Zifeng. After a while, he leaned against the door with his cell phone in hand and said helplessly, "Zifeng is not here. He's on a business trip."
He frowned: "What a coincidence."
Han wiped his face with a towel and said, "It's okay, I'll go by myself, it'll be fine."
The two of them went out in a hurry and didn't even have time to eat breakfast. Aunt Zhao stuffed a box of milk and an egg into Han Que's hands and told her to eat them in the car.
Gu Ningwei drove Han Que to his residence in Jiangjin and called Gu Ningli, asking her to open the door.
Gu Ningli opened the door and rushed over to Gu Ningwei when she saw him. "Brother, Jiang Jin..."
Gu Ningwei patted her shoulder and said, "Don't worry." He stepped aside to make way for Han Que who was standing behind him. "I'm going to the company to hold a board meeting right away. You can talk to your sister-in-law first. She will handle it."
Only then did Gu Ningli notice Han Que standing behind him. Her expression changed. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but Gu Ningwei had already turned around, shook Han Que's hand, and said, "I'm leaving now. I leave it to you."
Han nodded and gave him a reassuring look: "Go ahead, don't worry."
Gu Ningwei nodded without saying anything more. The elevator arrived just in time, and he turned around and got in without even looking back.
Gu Ningli stood by the door, staring at Han Que in a daze, not knowing what to say for a moment.
Han looked at her and asked, "Do you want to go in and talk, or should we go downstairs and find a place to talk?"
Only then did Gu Ningli step aside to let Han Que in, found a pair of disposable slippers and threw them to Han Que.
Han Que walked in and changed his shoes, then quickly looked around Jiang Jin's residence. It was a large flat of more than 180 square meters, neat and simple in style, which was Jiang Jin's style.
Her eyes fell on a picture frame on the sideboard.
Inside was a pencil drawing, with a few simple strokes outlining an old-style Jiangnan residence, wooden carved windows, an enclosed courtyard, and a large tree with lush branches and leaves.
There are two small bamboo chairs placed side by side under the tree.
There was no one sitting on the bamboo chair.
Han recognized that it was Jiang Jin's work. He felt uncomfortable, lowered his eyes and calmed himself down.
She entered the living room and sat down on the sofa with Gu Ningli without saying a word.
Gu Ningli looked embarrassed, clutching her hands and standing aside for a while before she remembered to go to the kitchen to pour a glass of boiled water and put it on the coffee table in front of Han Que.
Han Que's emotions had calmed down. She said to Gu Ningli, "You don't have to be polite with me. Chengguang Group is holding a board meeting today, and A Wei has to attend. He asked me to come and discuss with you what to do."
Gu Ningli didn't care about the awkwardness in her heart at this time, so she repeated to Han what happened last night.
Jiang Jin made an appointment with her to meet at his place last night. He said he had something important to tell her and asked her to wait for him to come back no matter how late it was. At around 10:30, Jiang Jin sent her a message saying that he would be home in about half an hour.
"I waited and waited, but he didn't come. I sent him messages but he didn't reply. I called him but no one answered. Later, I just turned off his phone..." Gu Ningli said worriedly, taking out her cell phone to show Han Que. She probably made hundreds of calls last night.
"Did something happen to Jiang Jin? Where was he yesterday?" Gu Ningli asked, "What important thing did he want to tell me... I really..."
Han thought for a moment and said calmly, "I heard from Ah Wei that Jiang Jin was with him at the Chengguang Group board meeting yesterday. They probably met until around ten o'clock. When he sent you the message, he must have been leaving the company."
Gu Ningli listened and thought about it, and felt that the time should be about the same.
"But why didn't he come back? Did he have a car accident on the way?" Gu Ningli was shocked again.
"If it was a car accident, the traffic police department should have notified you." Han Que said, frowning.
She made more than a hundred calls, so the traffic police would definitely have her contact information.
Now she began to believe what Gu Ningwei said. Jiang Jin's disappearance was not accidental. Someone deliberately wanted to harm him.
She closed her eyes, suppressed the panic in her heart, and asked again: "Besides sending a message to Wei, have you told anyone else about Jiang Jin's situation?"
Gu Ningli was stunned and stared at her.
Han asked again before cautiously saying, "Like your good friends, or...relatives...?"
She wanted to ask if you had asked your father before.
Gu Ningli shook her head. "I didn't... I was so worried all night..." She said this with a hint of panic in her eyes. She grabbed Han Que's hand and said, "Then... he is..."
She seemed to have thought of something, but didn't dare to think further, so she could only stare at Han Que in a daze.
Han, however, said in a soothing voice, "I was wondering if it was a coincidence that he got a call from the company midway and had to turn back." He paused and explained, "Ah Wei said their meeting yesterday was very intense. Could he have been called back to discuss something? That's also a possibility."
"You mean he was called away by my dad? That wouldn't mean he wouldn't answer the phone or turn off his phone, right?" Gu Ningli shook her head. "No."
"Why don't you ask? Maybe?" Han asked tentatively. She checked the time on her phone. The meeting hadn't started yet.
She remembered Gu Ningwei saying that Gu Zhiguang's hatred for Jiang Jin might be even greater than his hatred for Gu Ningwei.
Gu Ningli, with tears in her eyes, called Gu Zhiguang.
After a while, Gu Zhiguang answered the phone and said in a heavy tone, "Ali, what's the matter? I have a meeting soon. Please keep it short."
"Dad, Jiang Jin... Jiang Jin... Is he with you?" Gu Ningli stuttered.
"Jiangjin?" Gu Zhiguang hummed in surprise on the phone, then calmed down. "No..." He quickly asked again, "Didn't you say you wanted to meet him yesterday? He's not with you?"
"No." Gu Ningli collapsed and almost burst into tears, "Dad, Jiang Jin... is missing."
Almost at the same time, Gu Zhiguang on the other end of the phone was so shocked that he almost dropped his phone. He looked up at Assistant Jin in front of him and repeated, "He's missing?"
Assistant Jin frowned and took a step forward.
"Yes, I called him hundreds of times yesterday, but he didn't answer... I don't know where he went..." Gu Ningli's hysterical crying voice came from the microphone.
"Don't cry yet." Gu Zhiguang quickly comforted her. "I have a meeting soon. Let's talk later." After a pause, he reminded her, "Don't call the police yet. Wait until we've discussed it."
Gu Zhiguang hung up the phone, his face ashen.
Assistant Jin saw this and asked in a low voice, "Boss Gu, what's going on?"
"Jiang Jin is missing." Gu Zhiguang frowned and snorted.
"Missing?" Assistant Jin was very surprised: "When?"
"After the meeting last night." Gu Zhiguang stood up and walked out with his teapot. "At this critical juncture."
He snorted, his eyes revealing annoyance and anxiety that were difficult to conceal.
After thinking for a moment, he turned back to Assistant Jin and said, "Yesterday..."
Assistant Jin was about to say something when he saw Gu Ningwei walking towards him from the other end of the corridor. He shut his mouth and pushed the door open to go into his office next door.
