Chapter 51 Promise

Chapter 51 Promise

The price of a whole night of joy was sleeping until noon. When Han opened his eyes, he saw sunlight filling the room. The sheets on his body still had a slight fishy smell and the smell of Gu Ningwei, but the person next to him was nowhere to be seen.

She got up from the bed, her waist was weak, her steps were unsteady, and she felt dizzy. She held onto the bed railing to steady herself, took a deep breath, bent down to pick up the clothes scattered on the ground, put on her underwear, and then looked at the shirt and pants in her hands. They were already wrinkled and could no longer be worn.

Han had no choice but to open the bedroom closet, where rows of men's clothes were neatly hung, shirts, suits, and casual suits, all in black, white, gray, and varying shades of blue and beige.

She found a white shirt of Gu Ningwei and put it on. It was made of pure cotton and was comfortable and breathable. However, the shirt was too long, reaching her thighs. Han went to the bathroom to wash up briefly, rolled up her sleeves, and went downstairs with her wrinkled clothes, wanting to find the laundry room to wash and dry them.

The living room and dining room downstairs were empty. The dishes from their dinner yesterday had been cleared away. There were a few paper bags from the shopping mall on the sofa in the living room. Han glanced at them and vaguely saw that they were women's clothing, but she didn't touch them. She still wanted to find a washing machine with her clothes. After searching for a while, she couldn't find one. She was so thirsty that she had to go to the bar, find a clean glass, fill it with water from the water dispenser, and drank a few big gulps. When she turned around, she saw an elderly aunt coming out of the room with a mop. She bumped into her head, and Han was startled. She choked on the water several times before she calmed down.

When the aunt saw her, she was slightly stunned, then smiled and said, "Miss Han, are you awake? I'll go make breakfast, please sit for a while." Then she put down the mop, went to the refrigerator in the kitchen, took out milk and eggs, honey ham, and a box of bagged sandwiches. She asked Han Que's opinion: "I didn't prepare it before. Ah Wei usually likes Western food. Is that okay with you?"

Han nodded, still holding the pile of dirty clothes in her hands, and asked, "Auntie, where is the washing machine?"

Auntie quickly waved her hand: "Leave it here, I'll wash it later." She walked to the sofa, picked up the shopping bags and handed them to her, "Awei said, you wear these first."

Han nodded, took the shopping bags, went upstairs to the bedroom to change clothes, opened the shopping bags, and found everything from underwear to shirts, pants, and skirts. She found a simple shirt and a suit skirt to change into, and the size was just right.

But when she turned around and saw the messy bed sheet on the floor, her cheeks flushed. She pulled off the bed sheet, rolled it into a ball, and threw it into the dirty clothes basket in the bathroom.

The water stains in the bathroom have dried up, and the face reflected in the mirror has eyes as clear as water and a charming and rosy complexion.

Han's mind flashed with all kinds of beautiful and affectionate scenes from last night. He couldn't help but breathe hard, his cheeks flushed, and his heart was surging.

When Gu Ningwei is gentle, he is like water, which can drown her from head to toe. When he is passionate and brave, he is like fire, so domineering and reckless that she has no choice but to surrender and enjoy herself under his body.

If having sex was a sign of love, she would really think he was in love with her.

but………

Han sighed, turned on the faucet, scooped up a handful of water and splashed it on his face to make himself more awake.

After she washed up again, she went downstairs again. Her aunt had already placed breakfast on the island in the dining room: milk, eggs, a ham sandwich, and an orange cut into quarters.

Her dirty clothes had been taken away for washing, but the aunt was still mopping the floor.

Han Que drank a sip of hot milk and asked, "Gu... Where is Mr. Gu?"

Auntie was busy mopping the floor and didn't even look at her: "Well, he said he had something to do in the morning and had to go back to the city first."

Han was slightly stunned.

Auntie smiled again and said, "But Awei said he would come back for lunch. I have to go buy some more food later. It's rare for him to eat at home, so I have to make something he likes."

Han responded slowly, eating breakfast while checking WeChat on his phone.

Gu Ningwei left her a message at 8:30, "I'm going back to the group first. I saw you were sleeping soundly and didn't want to disturb you. I'll be back at noon. Wait for me."

Han sighed, and while her aunt was washing the mop, she called Director Pan and said she had a bad cold and wanted a day off. Her voice was hoarse and nasal, so Director Pan didn't ask any more questions, just told her to get some rest.

Han breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Director Pan had actually known it for a long time, but he was a smart person who saw through it but didn't say it out loud.

Thinking of this, she felt bored and uninterested again. She had always said that she could not care less about other people's gossip. That was in the past. She was upright and had nothing to fear. But now? As Gu Ningwei's secret lover, she no longer had such confidence.

Looking around, I felt more like a bird in a cage in this empty and unfamiliar villa.

Is this the life of a canary, waiting for the favor of her wealthy master in loneliness and boredom?

Han thought again, fortunately she only needs to live like this for three months.

After breakfast, Han didn't want to stay in the room. Seeing that it was still early, he took out his mobile phone and told his aunt that he wanted to go to the scenic spot.

She wandered around alone, walked out of the villa area gate, and strolled aimlessly along the scenic area road.

When she went up the mountain yesterday, it was already late. The mist had dissipated and the sun was beginning to shine. In the distance, there were undulating mountains, thousands of peaks and ridges, and lush pines and cypresses. In the near distance, there was clear water and birdsong, making the scene even more quiet. She walked and stopped, and her depressed mood gradually calmed down.

If Gu Ningwei had not told her so clearly that he would marry He Lian in three months, she would have treated it as an ordinary love affair. What was the difference between her and dating Jiang Jin, Lu Xiaoping and others? What's more, as a sponsor or a lover, Gu Ningwei was more gentle and considerate than them, and was more able to take her thoughts and feelings into consideration. Even in matters like sex, she would put her feelings first.

Han got tired after walking for a while and sat down on a bench in the bamboo forest to rest. He looked down idly at the ants on the ground busy carrying half a piece of candy that no one knew who had left behind.

She thought again, this is not her fault. She once wanted to win respect with her own abilities, and to make money with her own efforts, education, and abilities, rather than relying on beauty and body. She has tried, but people cannot resist God's will. After all, she still has to rely on these two biological genes. Since the greatest resource God has given her is beauty, why should she be so resentful and pretentious?

But would Gu Ningwei think so? After getting out of bed, there was no one around. Was there really something so urgent waiting for him to deal with?

When Han thought of this, the rippling emotions began to dissipate, and she sneered slightly.

Gu Ningwei woke up at five in the morning. To be more precise, he was woken up by He Lian's WeChat messages. She sent him messages left and right, and her words were full of decadent and suicidal emotions.

Gu Ningwei looked at the time again. She had started at midnight. At that time, he was completely focused on Han Que and would not let go even if the king came. His cell phone was thrown in some corner.

The more he didn't reply, the more unwilling He Lian became, and she started bombarding him with messages. Fortunately, Gu Ningwei had the habit of turning his phone to silent mode, otherwise he would have been scared to death by her.

"Gu Ningwei, if you don't reply to my message, I'll call you. I don't care who you're with now."

Gu Ningwei knew she was acting up again. He glanced at Han Que, who was sleeping soundly beside him, and could only get up, put on his clothes, and go to the living room. Before he could sit down for a minute, He Lian called, complaining tearfully, "Why didn't you answer my calls or reply to my messages?"

Gu Ningwei was helpless and could only whisper: "Miss, look at what time it is now. If you don't sleep, won't you let others sleep?"

He Lian sobbed softly on the phone, "But I can't sleep. I can't sleep at all."

Gu Ningwei frowned and advised slowly, "Do you still have the medicine the doctor prescribed? Go take one. Don't worry, Director Lu said this medicine has few side effects and is very safe."

He Lian said stubbornly: "I don't take medicine, I'm not sick, don't tell me I'm sick, I just can't sleep."

Gu Ningwei sighed, paused, and continued to persuade him in a good-tempered manner: "He Lian, whether you are sick or not is determined by the doctor, not by your opinion. Director Lu already told you this last time. Did you forget?"

Every spring, the melancholy remains. Not only He Lian, but even Gu Ningwei feels indescribable melancholy.

He was silent.

After a while, He Lian said, "Awei, come and keep me company."

Gu Ningwei frowned and flatly refused, "I can't."

He Lian was unwilling to accept this and angrily said, "Gu Ningwei, I'm your fiancée. You can't treat me like this. Come here right now."

Gu Ningwei knew he couldn't provoke her at this moment, so he had to patiently reason with her, "He Lian, we agreed that before the official announcement, we wouldn't interfere with each other. You have your freedom, and I can live the life I want. You can't ask this of me." He continued to coax her, "It's getting late, go to bed. After a good night's sleep, there will be nothing to worry about tomorrow."

He Lian said: "I can't sleep. I'm scared to be alone at home."

"Home alone?" Gu Ningwei laughed and joked with her to distract her: "What? Where's your little wolfdog? Isn't he with you?"

"I told him to get out." Perhaps because someone was talking, He Lian's emotions gradually calmed down. Gu Ningwei heard the click of a lighter and the sizzling sound of a cigarette burning. She exhaled lightly, "He's been trying to get money from me all day long. I don't bother to pay attention to him. I am rich and don't care about money, but my money didn't come from the wind. Why should I give him everything he wants? I'm just not happy."

Gu Ningwei remained silent. He didn't want to comment on He Lian's private life.

"Ah Wei, I just dreamed about He Jun. He told me that he hated me for being like this..." After a while, He Lian choked up and paused before sobbing softly and speaking incoherently, "Ah Wei, you promised He Jun, didn't you? You would take care of me, right? Why don't we get married right away? I really don't want to endure this any longer."

Gu Ningwei was silent for a moment, then spoke slowly and quietly, "He Lian, I promised He Jun that I would take care of you. The reason I agreed to marry you, besides being a business marriage, was more because I wanted to fulfill my promise. But this doesn't mean I don't have my own feelings, nor does it mean I will go against my will. You're overthinking it."
