Chapter 171 Old Li Reproaches Himself

171

In Commander Kang's office, Chang Yin and the others sat with grave expressions. Commander Kang took a sip of water and asked Tang Yue, "Company Commander Tang, do you think this was done by Japanese spies?"

Tang Yue thought for a moment and shook her head. "I don't know. It's very likely, but other possibilities cannot be ruled out."

A glint flashed in Commander Kang's eyes. "Oh? Tell me your opinion."

Tang Yue had thought about it on the way, so it wasn't difficult to say it now. "The news that we brought back the American warship should have spread by now."

Commander Kang and Chang Yin exchanged a glance, then both looked away, having forgotten to tell Tang Yue about it, which led to her current speculation. However, Tang Yue continued.

"That Albert must have passed a message to the United States. I was the one who confronted him directly at the time. It might be retaliation from the United States."

Tang Yue thought it was possible that it was Japan or the United States, but she really didn't know who had come up with this dirty trick.

Commander Kang thought Tang Yue's considerations were quite comprehensive, and took out a few newspapers from the drawer. "Take a look at these. You've been busy on the warship for a while, so I haven't had a chance to tell you."

Tang Yue inexplicably took the newspaper from his hand. She flipped through the pages, her expression growing increasingly grim. Commander Kang, who had been watching Tang Yue's expression closely, was waiting for the young girl's questioning. However, when Tang Yue looked up, a sharp glint flashed in her eyes.

"So, you're planning to return all those American soldiers and warships?"

A chilling glint flashed in her usually soft voice, as if Tang Yue would strangle them the moment Commander Kang said "yes." Even the surrounding air seemed to turn cold instantly.

Commander Kang looked out at the bright sun and wondered why the temperature inside the room had suddenly dropped.

Commander Kang knew that the little girl's anger was not about her own safety, but rather about her concern for the entire country of China. He was both pleased and felt that the little girl was not living like a child.

Despite feeling somewhat overwhelmed by Tang Yue's oppressive aura, Commander Kang still answered honestly, "They should be allowed to go back."

Ignoring Tang Yue's murderous glare, he said, "However, China won't release them so easily; they'll always get some benefits from the United States."

"Is it that simple? What can you possibly get back?"

Commander Kang...

How was he supposed to answer that? The US certainly wouldn't give them their high-tech stuff.

"It must be something that China can use right now." As for what the US has already phased out and no longer uses, he didn't say, because he was afraid the little girl wouldn't be able to control herself and might concoct some kind of poison to throw at Albert and his people.

Tang Yue had already withdrawn her aura. Although she didn't understand the actions of those in the upper echelons of China, she seemed to understand the saying "If you fall behind, you will be bullied" even more clearly.

Commander Kang? Why is it getting hot again? Sigh, in the middle of summer, it's actually good that the little girl is angry, at least it keeps us cool.

"Commander, when will the test results be available?"

Tang Yue now deeply regrets not having learned enough in her previous life. If she had worked harder and paid more attention to alchemy, she might have been able to discover what had been smeared on those dishes today.

Although she doesn't know how, she has read quite a few books in the collection, so she can study them on her own when she gets back.

Commander Kang felt that the chances of finding out were slim, but the properties of the medicine could certainly be determined.

"It's already been tested, but our technology here is limited, so we don't know if it can detect anything. But the efficacy can definitely be tested."

Tang Yue nodded, "If there's nothing else, I'll head home now."

Commander Kang wanted to ask her if she wanted to go to the garbage dump, but seeing that the girl wasn't in a good mood, he decided against it. He had already promised her two days off, so he decided not to rush her.

After Tang Yue left, Commander Kang's face immediately darkened. "Investigate! Investigate thoroughly and find all the spies hiding in the South Island. They've gone too far! They've even extended their reach into the military! They're incredibly arrogant!"

Chang Yin accepted the order, and for the next two months, spies throughout the southern islands suffered. The crackling of gunfire was frequent, and the people lived in constant fear, terrified that spies were among them, making them extremely cautious in their actions. But that's another story.

When Tang Yue returned home, her family members all looked grim, and Lin Cuicui sat in a chair, looking haggard and lost in thought.

"Mom, I'm home."

Lin Cuicui then came to her senses, "Yueyue is back. How did it go? What did the commander say? Can we catch those damned Japanese spies?"

The three Tang brothers also looked at Tang Yue hopefully. They hadn't even gone to training today, just to see how the army would handle this matter. Old Li sat on the doorstep, lost in thought, holding his pipe.

Tang Yue smiled and said, "Grandpa, Mom, brothers, don't worry. The army will definitely not let this go. They will find out the truth. We can just live our lives in peace."

Her family members looked at her, their faces expressionless.

Tang Yue...

Does this mean they don't believe her?

"Mom, have you made breakfast yet? I'm hungry."

As she spoke, Tang Yue touched her tummy, indicating that she was really hungry.

Old Li seemed to wake up and quickly stood up. "Your mother doesn't need to go, Grandpa will make it for you." He said without looking up and went to the kitchen.

Tang Yue noticed that Old Li was in a bad mood, so she followed him into the kitchen.

"Grandpa, what's wrong?"

Old Li bent down to scoop water. "It's nothing, you can go out now, the food will be ready in a bit."

Tang Yue knew that Old Li had a knot in his heart, which wouldn't do. Her grandfather hadn't been able to sense the spiritual energy around him yet, and if he had a knot in his heart, it would be even more difficult for him to cultivate.
