Tang Shengkai saw that his family members' expressions had changed, and he didn't know what to say.
Tang Nan glared at his father angrily, "Dad, don't you know what Grandma and Uncle and Second Uncle did? I'll tell you again now."
Tang Bei tugged at Tang Nan's sleeve, but Tang Nan struggled free. He wiped his face haphazardly with his sleeve and spoke angrily.
“My sister isn’t dead, but my uncle wants to bury her. Dad, don’t you know? Why is he doing this? It’s because of the grain the production team just distributed a couple of days ago.”
Tang Nan's voice choked with sobs, "If it weren't for... if it weren't for Mom, my little sister would be gone now. Waaaaah!"
Tang Nan broke down in tears, and Tang Bei and Tang Dong followed suit, wiping away their own tears. Tang Yue had personally witnessed what Tang Shengjun and Tang Shengli had done, and she couldn't accept her father's blind filial piety.
If her father is like that, then many things need to be reconsidered.
Tang Shengkai beckoned to Tang Nan, but Tang Nan took a step back and didn't go forward. Tang Shengkai sighed and beckoned again. Tang Nan had no choice but to reluctantly step forward.
Tang Shengkai patted Tang Nan on the shoulder, "Dad didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Dad has his own reasons."
"So, what do you think, Dad?"
Tang Dong stared intently at Tang Shengkai, as if trying to ascertain the truthfulness of his words from Tang Shengkai's eyes.
Tang Shengkai chuckled and patted Tang Dong's head, then looked at Lin Cuicui. Lin Cuicui hadn't spoken since hearing Tang Shengkai offer money, keeping her head down the whole time.
“Cui Cui, I’m not simply trying to give her money. I know all the suffering you and the children have endured from them over the years. I’m not heartless; how could I not know how difficult things have been for you?”
Even myself..."
Tang Shengkai looked up at the roof, swallowed subconsciously, and forcibly endured something.
"Over the years, I've often wondered if I'm really my mother's biological child. Otherwise, how could she be so heartless? When she wouldn't let me join the army, for a moment I really thought she was afraid she'd be heartbroken if I died."
Who would have thought that she privately told my two older brothers that if I became successful in the army, I would surpass them. This was also beyond her control. At that moment, my heart sank.
Later, she insisted that I get married. I thought she would choose a wife carefully, but instead, she wanted to marry me off to her cousin's mentally challenged daughter. If I hadn't met you in the mountains back then, my life...
Lin Cuicui was in tears and angrily punched Tang Shengkai. "You know everything, so why, why do you still want to give her money? Have you forgotten what she did when you were going to marry me?"
In the dead of winter, with heavy snow falling, she kicked us out of the house. If it weren't for, if it weren't for Third Grandma, would we be alive today? You tell me.”
Lin Cuicui completely broke down. She couldn't bear all the suffering she had endured over the past few days, and this latest ordeal completely broke her.
Tang Shengkai forcibly pulled her close, drawing Lin Cuicui to his side to help her catch her breath. "Cuicui, let me finish."
"I won't listen, I won't listen. I never want to hear you speak again."
"I wanted to give her some money and sever my relationship with her as mother and son."
Tang Shengkai roared. After struggling with Lin Cuicui for a while, Tang Shengkai was covered in sweat and his breathing became much more rapid.
After he shouted that, the room fell silent, as if someone had pressed the pause button.
Tang Yue was also surprised; she hadn't expected her father to think that way.
Tang Bei and the other two were also shocked and didn't know how to react.
Lin Cuicui's outburst stopped. What does that mean? What did the head of the household say? Does he want to sever their mother-son relationship? Is that true? Is it even possible?
Tang Shengkai took a few heavy breaths, and only continued speaking after his breathing had calmed down.
"You all know what kind of person your grandma is. If I wanted to get some plastic back, that would be impossible. I want to cut ties with her for nothing, but how could she agree to that?"
That's when I started thinking, why not just buy it out?
"If she knew you had money, would she still be willing to break off the relationship with you?"
Although Tang Yue's voice was soft and sweet, it was incisive and to the point.
Tang Shengkai listened to Tang Yue's words and fell into thought, it seemed that his daughter was right.
"What should we do then?"
Lin Cuicui asked anxiously, "If your grandma knew your dad was going to join the army, she would definitely be the first to try to stop him."
Tang Yue smiled. "Simple."
"What?"
Lin Cuicui asked the question aloud, and the others stared at Tang Yue anxiously.
Tang Yue looked at them, then used her small hands to collect all the large coins on the kang (heated brick bed) into the black box and closed it. "I think this material should be fine if we just bury it in the ground. We'll be leaving in a few days, so we'll definitely have to take it out then."
After saying that, she looked up at Tang Shengkai and asked, "Dad, what do you think?"
Tang Shengkai touched the black box and nodded, agreeing with his daughter's reasoning.
"Hmm, it looks about right. Let's take out some bullets for backup, and bury the rest."
Tang Yue pointed to the hole on the right side of the stove. "Let's dig a hole under here. It's not safe to put it in the backyard. If the spies find it, we'll have hidden it for nothing."
Lin Cuicui thought Tang Yue's words made sense, so she immediately went down to the field to get a shovel and started working. The three Tang brothers also went to help.
Tang Shengkai sat on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed). "Daughter, how do you plan to sever ties with your grandma?"
Tang Yue smiled slyly, "Dad, now everyone in the village probably knows that our family is being watched by spies. Do you think Grandma and the others know?"
Tang Shengkai suddenly understood and grinned.
"Yes, daughter, you're right. They must be thrilled right now."
