"We have no food, you should leave now." The older brother's voice was cold.
Xu Hongchang and Chang Yin stared at each other again. Chang Yin's cold voice rang out, "We're not here to ask you for food. We are soldiers."
A hint of mockery flashed in the elder brother's eyes. "What you are has nothing to do with us. Get out of here!"
He spoke, but gripped the stone in his hand even tighter.
Both of them knew the children were wary of them, so neither of them approached, and no one else appeared. Just as they were wondering how to break into the children's arms, Tang Yue stepped out from behind them.
The older brother was dumbfounded. Why were they with a child, and the child was even dressed in military uniform? Were these human traffickers, specifically targeting children? But how did they find them?
The older brother quickly took a few steps back, and his younger sister-in-law followed behind him. The two children didn't understand what was going on, but they both obeyed their older brother.
Tang Yue tilted her head to look at the children, "Are you afraid of us?"
The little girl's soft voice rang out in the quiet mountain forest, which made the two children behind the older brother peek out again. The older brother tensed up, afraid that he would not be able to protect his younger siblings.
"Don't be nervous, we are really Chinese soldiers. We are not child traffickers, nor are we bad people."
"Human traffickers will never admit that they are human traffickers."
Tang Yue shrugged. She had overheard the children's conversation and knew they had come to hide in the mountains. But Xu Hongchang and Chang Yin were unaware that they were also on guard against the children.
Tang Yue immediately drew the pistol from her waist. Chang Yin saw this but it was too late to stop her.
Tang Yue placed the gun in her palm. "Don't worry, they're not human traffickers. If they were, a little kid like me wouldn't have a handgun."
Second Brother Xiaoyu was clearly somewhat tempted, but he didn't say anything or look at Tang Yue again.
The eldest brother glanced at the gun in Tang Yue's hand, then at Chang Yin and Xu Hongchang. They all appeared righteous, but the eldest brother didn't trust anyone now. Perhaps this young girl was someone they had brought along to lure someone in.
In just over a month, they had experienced all the ups and downs of life, and he would never trust anyone again.
"Whoever you are, get out of here. You are not welcome."
Chang Yin remained silent, but Xu Hongchang was the first to lose his temper. These children were about the same age as his son, Xu Zhenfei, and he hadn't forgotten how he and his wife felt when Xu Zhenfei was kidnapped by human traffickers.
“How can you children live in the mountains? It’s too dangerous. You should come out with us and we’ll take you home.”
"Get out! Get out of here right now! You're all bad people!"
