Chapter 237 Lai Xiang Discovers Something Fishy

237

Lai Xiang didn't think much of it. "Yes, she came to Kyoto. We ran into her outside today."

Nie Youyu thought to himself, it seems the army didn't lie to them today, that girl really did go out.

Nie Qianwen had just told him about how Lai Xiang and Tang Yue met, and he remembered that he had eaten quite a lot of wild game recently. It turned out that Tang Yue had sent them all.

"I heard the little girl is quite young. It's not easy for her to come all the way to Kyoto. Lai Xiang, ask her when she's free and invite her to our house for a meal."

Lai Xiang looked up in surprise. When did her uncle become so concerned about her affairs? He usually didn't care about family matters.

She turned to look at her aunt, who was smiling and nodding at her. Wenwen's smile was a little forced, but she didn't object.

No objections? Lai Xiang's heart skipped a beat. Wenwen usually disagreed with her, so what was wrong with her today? Why was she actually willing to invite her friend over?

"Yes, thank you, Uncle. I'll ask about it next time we meet."

Nie Youyu was a little anxious, but he didn't want to show it. "Okay."

Nie Qianwen became anxious, "How can that be? You should invite her tomorrow."

Lai Xiang looked up at her, and Wu Jinghui tugged at Nie Qianwen under the table and smiled at Lai Xiang.

"Lai Xiang, don't mind Wenwen. Actually, this is what I thought. I did something wrong at the state-run restaurant today. I didn't know that the girl was your good friend, so I didn't even greet her."

"She's gone to all the way from the South Island to the capital; as the host, you should invite her to our home."

Lai Xiang smiled and said, "Okay, I'll go find her when I'm resting and ask her when she'll be free."

Wu Jinghui wanted to say something more, but knowing that too much of a good thing could be bad, she smiled and said, "Okay, then let me know in advance so we can prepare properly to receive them."

Lai Xiang nodded and then lowered her head to eat silently. She didn't see the tense expressions on the faces of the Nie family members.

"I will not go back, never."

Xiao Mohe reacted extremely strongly when Chang Yin said he wanted to send someone to escort them back to Panyun County.

Xiao Moyu and Xiao Moyan remained silent, clearly disagreeing as well. Before Chang Yin could explain, Xiao Mohe continued, "Commander Chang, if we've caused you trouble, I can take my sister-in-law and leave. However, I can't repay the money I owe you for now."

"Once I've settled down for a while, I'll find a way to pay you back."

After speaking, he bowed to Chang Yin and Tang Yue with his younger brother and sister-in-law, then turned to leave with his sister-in-law in his arms.

"You have quite the temper."

Tang Yue's soft voice sounded from behind, and Xiao Mohe paused but did not turn around.

Tang Yue stared at Xiao Mohe's back with an unfriendly look. "Are you polite? Can't you listen to what others have to say? You're leaving without even understanding anything. Do you really think you can survive anywhere?"

"Do I only ever run into good people?"

Xiao Moyan quickly turned her head, "Yueyue, don't be angry, my brother didn't mean that."

"What does that mean?" Tang Yue looked at Xiao Mohe, who had turned around and lowered his head. "We kindly brought you out of the Qinling Mountains, but you didn't want to stay in the nearby county town, so we brought you to the capital with us on a mission."

What? Can't you even hear a word of thanks?

Xiao Mohe blushed slightly at Tang Yue's words. He looked up and said, "That's not what I meant. I came here because I wanted to join the army with you."

Tang Yue looked at him. "Join the army? Is it something you can just do whenever you want? You haven't even told us your true identities. You think the army will accept you just because you want to join? Why should they?"

Xiao Mohe lowered his head silently. "Our identities don't qualify us for military service at all." His voice was very soft, but the people in the room all had excellent hearing and heard what he said clearly.

Chang Yin patted Tang Yue on the shoulder, saying, "This little girl has quite a temper."

Don't you want to know about your grandmother's condition?

"Whoosh!" The three siblings looked up at the same time, staring hopefully at Chang Yin, anxiously waiting to see how their grandmother was doing. Xiao Moyan couldn't hold back any longer, and tears were already welling up in her eyes.

Chang Yin felt a pang of sadness. "Your grandmother is alright, she's doing very well now."

Xiao Mohe's eyes widened. "Impossible! You're lying to me. How could my grandma be alright? How could she be?" His voice trailed off until he was sobbing uncontrollably. The three children hugged each other and wept bitterly.

They never dared to mention their grandmother in front of their older brother, fearing he wouldn't be able to hold on any longer. Although the two younger children were small, they knew their grandmother was probably no longer alive.

They hated those people, they hated Panyun County. They escaped because they wanted to become strong; they wanted revenge. They absolutely had to get revenge.

After they had cried for a while and their emotions had gradually calmed down, Tang Yue slowly said, "I have met Grandma Qin."

Afterwards, Tang Yue truthfully recounted what she had seen to the brothers. She didn't deliberately hide anything; the three of them must have gone through a lot along the way, and it would be a bit of an underestimation to treat them like children now.

Tang Yue felt that their choice after learning the specifics was their true choice.

The three siblings couldn't believe what they were hearing; their grandmother really did want to die. Heh, that's good, Grandma didn't die, that's good.

Xiao Mohe wiped away his tears. "Xiao, Yueyue, is what you said true?"

Tang Yue nodded.

"Panyun County, is it really not up to those people to decide? Have they all been arrested?"

“Yes.” Tang Yue pointed at Chang Yin. “Battalion Commander Chang led his men and wiped them all out. They should have finished the cleanup by now. If you go back and find any suspicious people or anyone harassing your family, you can report them to the police station or the county government.”
