Run'er stood at the bow of the ship, carefully looking left and right. "I am Run'er, and I am certain that there are no ships docked in the direction we are heading."
Takumi and Daigo were in charge of rowing. They stopped what they were doing. "That's impossible. I remember we came in this direction."
Da Wu sneered, "Hey, sir, when did you come to China? How many years ago? Do you still remember the route so clearly?"
Takumi was somewhat annoyed by Daigo's shout, but he felt he hadn't misremembered the direction. Junji didn't let the two continue their conversation.
"Gentlemen, I think we should find the right direction, otherwise we will continue to be left in China. If we can't even find our way back home, I think our entire ship will become abandoned pawns."
Takumi immediately stood up. "My name is Takumi, and I agree with Junji's opinion."
Daigo remained seated on the boat, but introduced himself, "My name is Daigo. Junji is right. However, are you sure we don't need to continue?"
When did Run'er-kun come to China? Was this the route he took last time?
Tang Yue stood beside Run Er, a smirk playing on her lips. These Japanese are really something. They've barely walked a short distance and already expect to see a ship? Are they kidding me?
And this Junji is really interesting, isn't he just trying to get attention? He even made a point that they could have seen the ship waiting for them just a few nautical miles ahead.
However, Tang Yue wouldn't help; she wanted to see how these Japanese would continue their commotion.
Junji looked at Daigo with disapproval. "Daigo-kun, I think you also really want to go back to your hometown. If we take the wrong path, how will we get back?"
The ship's waiting time for us is certainly limited. If we continue to linger at sea, we might truly lose our chance to return home.
There were eight people on the small boat, excluding Tang Yue. The others agreed with Run Er's point, and the only woman on the boat spoke up.
"I'm Maki. Junji-kun, which way do you think we should go now?"
Run'er wasn't entirely sure himself; he'd only asked the question because he couldn't see the ships ahead. But nobody knew exactly where the old port of Gutang was. The docking places for large ships were all random.
He casually pointed in a direction, "I think going that way should be the right way."
Takumi looked in that direction, feeling that it was the wrong way, but no one else seemed to have any objections. He looked at Daigo, who remained silent. "Let's go," he said, "I don't think I can see the direction either."
And so, they rowed towards a direction at a several-degree angle to the other boats. Tang Yue sat leisurely at the bow; if it weren't for the need to avoid arousing suspicion, she would have taken off her shoes and waded in the water.
It feels wonderful! The boat isn't big, and it's slowly drifting along on the boundless sea—it's so pleasant. As for why they use such a primitive boat, it's probably to minimize the noise. They've certainly done a pretty good job of being discreet.
Because of Junji, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and slowly began to introduce themselves.
When Tang Yue heard that Run Er came from near her hometown in Northeast China, Tang Yue narrowed her eyes.
Da Wu laughed, "Run Er Jun, the Northeast should be the place in China where you can eat your fill. How could you mess things up in such a good place? Tsk tsk tsk!"
Junji was indignant. "Daigo-kun, you talk as if you're so capable. You're still going to be sent back to Japan anyway. How are you any better than me?"
Daigo didn't take it to heart. "Heh, I'm different from you guys. I returned home honorably after completing my mission. The Emperor might even want to meet me."
Everyone else turned to look at him, and Maki looked at him with admiration. "Daigo-kun, is what you're saying true? Our missions have been getting harder and harder to complete this past year. How did you manage to complete them, Daigo-kun? You're amazing!"
Daigo arrogantly raised his head, but he didn't say what task he had completed.
The others felt a little uncomfortable seeing that Da Wu didn't say anything, but since he was returning home after completing his mission, they thought they might have a bond from traveling back together and could help him in the future. So none of them showed their dissatisfaction.
They rowed for another half hour, and now they were completely alone on the sea. Daigo stood up, and he vaguely saw faint lights a few nautical miles to his right.
He turned angrily to look at Run'er, pointing in the direction of the lights. "Run'er, I think you should explain to us why the direction you're pointing at is so different. If you hadn't suggested changing direction, we would already be on the ship by now."
The others could barely see what was happening in the distance, but Daigo's angry accusations clearly showed that his eyesight was much better.
Run'er was speechless after being accused, and everyone else glared at him with resentment. The other men quickly came over to help row. The boat was now moving much faster than before.
"Hurry up, damn it, I feel like the ship is about to leave. If we don't hurry, we might not make it back in time."
As Da Wu spoke, he unconsciously touched his chest—as if something important was stored there. Tang Yue raised an eyebrow; it seemed the mission he spoke of was indeed on him.
From afar, they heard the roar of the ship about to set sail, and everyone immediately panicked. Clearly, they were too late. Tang Yue had intended to eliminate them all now, but she knew that Run Er was likely a spy lurking near Qiligou, and that Da Wu harbored secrets.
