Chapter 312 Dispute between Fishermen of Two Countries

312

In the late 1960s, the international situation was changing rapidly, and the conflict between China and Japan over maritime issues became increasingly prominent.

The boundary line between the two countries' waters is unclear and not clearly defined, which often leads to friction between fishermen when they go out to sea to fish because they enter what the other side considers to be "territorial waters".

These frictions initially consisted of minor verbal altercations and simple threats, but over time, the conflict escalated, and clashes became more and more frequent.

On this day, just as dawn was breaking, Chinese fishermen, as usual, boarded their fishing boats early, preparing to set sail. They skillfully untied the mooring lines, started the engines, and with a "putt-putt-putt" sound, the fishing boats slowly left the harbor, heading towards the depths of the sea.

Most of these fishermen have made their living by fishing for generations. The sea is their source of sustenance, and they have a deep affection for and reverence for this sea area.

They harbored expectations for a harvest, and although their eyes were full of vicissitudes, they still did not lack hope for life.

In their view, every voyage is an intimate dialogue with nature, a prayer for nature's gifts, and a challenge to life.

They hoped to catch enough fish in this vast sea to support their family. Despite knowing the unknown dangers at sea, they pressed on relentlessly.

Meanwhile, on the distant opposite shore, Japanese fishermen also set out to sea. Their fishing boats appeared to be more advanced and better equipped than those of China.

These Japanese fishermen, taking advantage of their superior fishing boats, frequently act arrogantly and bully Chinese fishermen in the border area between the two countries' waters. They not only seize the fishing areas of Chinese fishermen, but also often deliberately ram and capsize their boats, causing huge losses to Chinese fishermen.

Although the fishermen of China were filled with anger, the magnanimity of China prevented them from doing anything petty, and most of the time they would silently endure it.

However, on this day, when the Chinese fishermen arrived at the waters where they usually fished, they found that the Japanese fishermen had already occupied the area and were constantly driving them away.

The Chinese fishermen could no longer tolerate this humiliation, and they picked up their tools and confronted the Japanese fishermen.

From the perspective of Chinese fishermen, they could tolerate you coming to catch a few fish, but now it seems you're trying to seize this sea area for yourselves. How could that be? How could your own territory and sea areas be invaded by an enemy country?

Those humiliations were only a few years ago? Their usual forbearance wasn't out of fear, but rather to avoid escalating conflict between the two countries. But now the situation is completely different.

"Leave here immediately! This is Chinese waters! We resolutely oppose any encroachment on Chinese territorial waters!" An elderly Chinese fisherman stood at the bow of his boat, angrily pointing at the Japanese fishermen and shouting loudly.

His face was etched with the marks of time, yet his eyes revealed unwavering determination and resilience. The sea breeze howled, whipping his worn-out clothes as if cheering him on.

However, the Japanese fishermen couldn't understand what he was saying at all. They only saw the angry expressions and waving arms of the Chinese fishermen and thought it was a provocation. But they were quite happy to see them angry.

They shouted triumphantly, their languages mingling in the sea breeze, yet unable to convey their meaning, only further escalating the conflict.

"Baka! This is the waters of our great Japan! You Chinese, get out of here!" A Japanese fisherman cursed viciously. He was short, with a ferocious expression on his face, and he gripped a wooden stick tightly in his hand, as if he was about to hit someone.

Although the Chinese fishermen couldn't understand what he was saying, they could understand his meaning from his expression and actions. They were thoroughly enraged and picked up tools from their boats, such as knives and sticks, ready to fight the Japanese fishermen.

"Fight them! Not an inch of Chinese waters will be given up!" shouted a young Chinese fisherman, his eyes burning with rage, as he charged toward the Japanese fishing boat without hesitation.

Other Chinese fishermen also responded, and in a short time, the fishing boats of both sides quickly approached each other, and the fishermen engaged in a fierce weapon-fighting battle on the deck.

Shouts, curses, and the sounds of objects colliding echoed across the sea, creating an atmosphere of extreme tension. In the chaos, a Chinese fishing boat was accidentally bumped by a Japanese fishing boat, causing the boat to rock violently and the fishermen to fall to the ground.

The Chinese were also furious. This was clearly intentional; they actually rammed their boat? Didn't they know how?

So the Chinese fishing boats began to retaliate. But before their boats could even collide with the Japanese boats, the Japanese on the other side had already realized their intentions.

Suddenly, some of the Japanese fishermen crawled into the cabin and took out various guns retired from the Japanese army. These weapons gleamed with a cold metallic luster under the sunlight, and they triumphantly pointed their cold muzzles at the Chinese fishermen.

The pistols and semi-automatic rifles they carried were far superior to the old-fashioned firearms used by Chinese fishermen. They were not only faster and more accurate, but also more powerful.

The Japanese fishermen rushed into the cabin to retrieve their guns, then pointed the dark muzzles at the Chinese fishermen, attempting to intimidate them and force them to back down.

"Hmph, look at these Chinese. When they see our advanced weapons, they'll be so scared they'll run away like their tails between their legs." A Japanese fisherman sneered, then laughed loudly, his smugness glaringly obvious.
