Tang Yue used her senses to quickly navigate the winding streets and alleys of Kyoto, and soon located the Red Soldier Society's stronghold. Late at night, the Red Soldier Society's stronghold was still lit by dim yellow lights. At this time, no matter how powerful the Red Soldier Society was, the wattage of light bulbs was limited, so it did not appear very bright from a distance.
She swaggered in without anyone noticing. Inside, she saw several people busy organizing their belongings; the floor was piled high with all sorts of things, mostly antiques, jade artifacts, and gold bars—clearly the "spoils" they had plundered that day.
Tang Yue had no interest in these things at the moment and walked straight towards Director Zhao's office.
The office door was ajar. Tang Yue gently pushed it open and stepped inside. At that moment, Director Zhao was sitting behind a large desk, holding a beautiful piece of porcelain in his hands, his eyes filled with rapt attention.
Tang Yue appeared suddenly like a ghost, startling Director Zhao so much that he almost dropped the porcelain on the ground.
"You... who are you? How did you get in?" Director Zhao stared at the unfamiliar "composed man in his thirties" with a gloomy look in his eyes. His voice was lowered unconsciously. At the same time, his hand quietly reached for the self-defense weapon hidden under the desk, and a ruthless killing intent flashed in his eyes.
Tang Yue's lips curled into a casual smile, but she didn't rush to answer Director Zhao's question. She slowly walked to the desk, her gaze sweeping over the porcelain on it, and said softly:
"This is a really nice thing, but shouldn't this be something to be destroyed? Why do you seem to like it so much? What? You're reluctant to part with it?"
Director Zhao was startled. He subconsciously and carefully put down the porcelain, sat up straight, and stared at Tang Yue warily, but his hand was still tightly gripping the weapon under the table. He said coldly, "What exactly do you want? If you don't explain your purpose, don't blame me for being impolite!"
"Heh? Is that so? But your pistol probably can't outrun my knife." As Tang Yue spoke, a delicate little knife inlaid with rubies appeared in her hand without her noticing. The knife spun rapidly in Tang Yue's hand.
Director Zhao's pupils contracted slightly. Indeed, given the current distance between them, a single shot to the head wouldn't be as fast as the knife in the man's hand. Director Zhao slumped back in his chair, dejected.
"Speak, you came directly to me without alerting anyone outside, so you must have something you want me to do, right?"
Tang Yue didn't answer directly, but instead asked, "Director Zhao, I heard that recently the higher-ups have been intensifying their crackdown on hidden counter-revolutionaries?" Director Zhao frowned slightly, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes, and nodded, saying:
"Indeed! But what does this have to do with you? Who exactly are you? Tell me why you broke into my office in the middle of the night?" His tone remained wary, showing no sign of letting his guard down around Tang Yue.
Tang Yue stepped forward, placed her hands on the desk, stared intently into Director Zhao's eyes, and said, word by word, "I discovered three families whose actions are utterly outrageous."
Several important foreign language books were also hidden in their homes, some of which originated from hostile countries. These books were most likely used by them to communicate with foreign powers.
Upon hearing this, Director Zhao feigned a serious expression, knowing full well how serious the matter of being labeled a "counter-revolutionary." However, what did it matter to him whether someone was a counter-revolutionary or not? If there was no profit to be made and it had nothing to do with them, he wouldn't bother taking action.
However, now there was a "whistleblower" in front of him, and Director Zhao knew that those families must have some kind of grudge against him. He spoke righteously and sneered, "Hmph, do you think you can just say whatever you want? Where's the evidence? Do you think I'll believe you just because you utter nonsense?"
The Red Army Society can't just arrest people based on your word. Besides, who knows if you're deliberately trying to stir up trouble and disrupt our work?
His eyes were full of doubt, and he remained skeptical of Tang Yue's explanation.
Tang Yue sneered, "Director Zhao, there's no need for you to pretend to be so upright with me. If you didn't have so many large bills and receipts in your drawer, and so many boxes of gold and silver jewelry in your backyard storeroom, what you're saying would be more believable."
Director Zhao's face flushed red and then paled. He hadn't expected that this man had already figured out everything about him. Looking into the man's eyes, it seemed he harbored no ill will towards him, and merely wanted to retaliate against a few families.
Director Zhao gritted his teeth and said, "Speak, what are your conditions?"
Tang Yue shrugged indifferently, "I'm here to give you credit, Director Zhao. I've already told you the evidence. As for whether you want to go or not, that's none of my business."
However, if this evidence falls into the hands of someone else, do you think you, Director Zhao, can still gain the upper hand in this matter?
You might even be suspected of having connections with these counter-revolutionaries. Then, all the status and benefits you've worked so hard for would be gone.
Her words were like a bombshell, sending shockwaves through Director Zhao's mind, but he remained unmoved. His position wasn't one that could be easily taken away. However, he did know that quite a few people were eyeing his position.
A struggle flashed in Director Zhao's eyes. After a moment of contemplation, he looked at Tang Yue with continued vigilance and said, "What exactly do you want? Are those three families your enemies, or am I your enemy?"
"Your coming here like this isn't enough to make me act easily. What if this is a trap you set? Wouldn't I be ruining my future?" He remained suspicious of Tang Yue's motives and wasn't easily persuaded by her.
