Chapter 53 A Dismal Ending

53

Tang Shengkai counted them; there were 11 in total. None of these young men were particularly burly; they all looked rather thin, but they must have been in the underworld for a while, as they all had a ruthless air about them.

Seeing that everyone had arrived and there was no lookout at the alley entrance, Tang Shengkai simply stopped pretending and stood up straight with Tang Yue in his arms. "They really are persistent."

The thug who had just spoken raised an eyebrow. "Oh ho, what's wrong? You don't like me? But it's no use."

"Hand over your money and leave those baskets and bundles you're carrying, and I'll spare your lives. Otherwise, the consequences will be unbearable."

Tang Shengkai smiled and said, "I've heard that kind of talk a lot. I'm not easily intimidated. Show me what you've got."

As he spoke, he had already put Tang Yue on the ground. Seeing that Tang Shengkai showed no fear whatsoever, the man thought that this person, who had never been out before, was quite brave.

A thug in the crowd loudly mocked Tang Shengkai, "I'm telling you, with the old and the young with you, you'd better be smart and hand over your things quickly, lest you end up losing your life instead of your belongings. That wouldn't be good."

We have principles. As long as you obediently hand over the items, we won't punish you.

Tang Yue clapped her hands together, "Stop talking nonsense and get started. I'm going shopping later."

His voice was soft and sweet, sounding utterly intimidating, which the group of thugs found quite amusing.

The leader of the thugs took two steps forward, pulled his hand out of his pocket, and said, "Little girl, you're so young and already don't know what's good for you. Since you're so eager to taste the power of my fists, then I'll grant your wish."

As he spoke, he waved his hand, and his fist slammed towards Tang Shengkai's eye.

Tang Shengkai had already assumed a defensive stance, and as the man approached, he extended his arm as well, but the powerful punch missed its mark.

Because at this moment, the leader of the thugs had already flown away into the distance with a wail.

Tang Yue had already pulled her small feet back, and her figure nimbly weaved through the group of thugs.

These people initially didn't take Tang Yue seriously and were all after Tang Shengkai. However, Tang Yue was small in stature, and she moved through the crowd with ease, using both her hands and feet without any spiritual power, and easily took down all these numerous and powerful thugs.

Afterwards, Tang Shengkai, Lin Cuicui, and Old Li led Tang Bei and the other two to attack from both sides, while Lin Cuicui mainly dealt with the two thieves in the car. Cries of agony echoed through the alley.

Within two minutes, these people began to wail and beg for mercy, but Tang Yue had no intention of letting them go; letting them go would only bring harm to more people.

When she asked for directions, Tang Yue had already asked for the location of the police station.

After binding the thugs with the scraps of cloth from her basket, Tang Yue left the alley and randomly picked two pedestrians to go to the police station to report the incident. Some kind-hearted people went, while others, just curious onlookers, followed her into the alley to watch the commotion.

Seeing the thugs beaten so badly, the onlookers' lips twitched. Who was really trying to harm whom? They felt these thugs were suffering even more than the victims.

Not long after, several bicycles with bells rang came from afar, and the police officers ran past while shouting loudly, adding a tense atmosphere to the cold street.

Upon hearing this voice, the thugs' bruised faces couldn't hide the complex emotions in their eyes. They should have been terrified and uneasy, but at this moment, they seemed to feel a sense of relief.

"What do we do when the police come?" A thug's voice trembled.

"What else can we do? Run!" the leader of the thugs shouted weakly. Although the police seemed less ruthless than this family, who would want to go in for reformation when they could breathe the free air outside?

He tried to get up from the ground, but Tang Yue gently kicked him, causing him to fall back to the ground.

The police arrived quickly and swiftly brought the situation under control, handcuffing the thugs one by one. Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui stood by, relieved smiles on their faces. They had caught the group of thugs; they would pay the price for their actions.

"Are you alright?" a police officer asked Tang Shengkai with concern.

Tang Shengkai shook his head. "We're fine, thanks to your timely arrival."

The police officer nodded, his gaze falling on Tang Yue, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.

He was skilled at solving cases and saw the fear in the eyes of those petty thugs towards this little girl. He didn't know what this girl had done to instill fear in those desperate criminals who roamed the edge of darkness every day.

Could this seemingly frail little girl be the key figure in subduing these thugs?

The policeman shook his head, dismissing the unrealistic thoughts from his mind, but out of curiosity, he still asked, "Is this your daughter?"

"This is our daughter, Tang Yue," Tang Shengkai introduced, a hint of barely perceptible pride in his eyes.

The police officer nodded and gave Tang Yue a thumbs up, "Good job, young lady."

The little girl looks quite young. For such a young child to not cry or make a fuss in such a situation is a kind of courage in itself.

Tang Yue smiled slightly, realizing she had misunderstood. She didn't say much, but she felt much more relieved. Finally, she didn't have to keep an eye on those hooligans anymore, and her belongings were safe for the time being.

There's one downside to this era: you can't just deal with bad people as you please, it's too tempting to do something about it.
