Chang Yin's car stopped not far from the village entrance.
After getting off the bus, I spoke a few words to a child, and then the children took off running away.
A moment later, an elderly man in his forties or fifties wearing a hat ran towards them.
Upon approaching, he said, "Hello, comrade, I am the village head of Daobei Village, and you are?"
Chang Yin handed over the letter of introduction that he had prepared beforehand. "These are the military family members who were arranged to live in your village some time ago. Have they been provided with housing?"
Village Chief Li nodded as he took the letter of introduction, "Yes, it's all arranged."
He then looked up at Tang Shengkai's family and continued, "However, my village has a large population, and there are almost no empty houses. Currently, there's only one place that's vacant and uninhabited, that place..."
Chang Yin didn't listen any further. "I'd like to trouble the village chief to get in the car and show me the way."
"Okay, okay."
Before long, the group arrived at a spacious courtyard with three thatched huts in the middle.
Village Chief Li was a little embarrassed. "Comrade, firstly, we didn't know how many people would come in total, and secondly, there really aren't any houses left in the village. So..."
Chang Yin had no expression, but looked down at Tang Yue, who was clearly not satisfied with the house.
She looked around. The other houses were all some distance away and spacious enough, but this room was simply not enough for her.
Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui knew there wasn't enough room, but since Tang Shengkai would be living in the military base from now on, and his father would live with his three sons, while Cuicui would live with Yueyue, they could all sleep comfortably.
Thinking about it this way, the two were quite satisfied with the house. As long as it didn't leak when it rained, they didn't have any other requirements.
"Grandpa Village Chief, can we add more to this house ourselves?"
Village Chief Li looked down at the little girl who was talking to him. He hadn't expected that these words would come from a little girl.
He looked at the adults in his family and saw that they were all looking at him. He scratched the back of his head.
"That's possible. However, since your household registration isn't here, this house is only for you to live in. If you leave in the future, this house will still belong to our brigade."
Upon hearing this, Lin Cuicui didn't want to move anymore; otherwise, the money would have been wasted.
Tang Yue nodded and did not offer any further opinion.
Seeing that everyone was alright, Village Chief Li said, "Then you can start packing up first. I'll have someone bring your grain over later. You've just arrived, so start working in three days."
Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui thanked him repeatedly, and then saw Village Chief Li off.
Chang Yin and Wang Ming did not enter the courtyard. They told Tang Shengkai that they would return to the team in three days, and then drove away.
The family looked at the thatched hut before them, exchanged glances, and their eyes filled with smiles. After all this time, they finally had a home of their own.
The yard wasn't locked, so they went inside. Tang Bei and Tang Nan were the first to push open the door and go in, and then Tang Nan exclaimed "Ah!"
