Chapter 33 When do you want your leg to heal?

33

Li Mingxuan was thrilled to hear that the girl had come to see him. The little girl had helped him so much, and he didn't know how to thank her properly. She must have something to tell him.

That's for the best; he really doesn't like owing people favors, especially such a big one. Those people just now...

"Yueyue, you said that I will definitely help if I can."

"Uncle Li, let's find somewhere to talk."

Li Mingxuan turned his head and saw several nurses pretending to be busy, wandering around. Li Mingxuan nodded, "Let's talk in my office."

He took Tang Yue to Li Mingxuan's office. Li Mingxuan washed his hands, poured Tang Yue a glass of hot water, and then sat down opposite her. "Yueyue, what's wrong?"

Li Mingxuan thought the girl was probably alright. Could it be that her family was really short of money and she came to him to borrow some?

Li Mingxuan had already made up his mind: if Tang Yue asked, he would give her all the money he had. Just as Li Mingxuan was calculating how much money he had left, Tang Yue's soft, sweet voice rang out.

"Uncle Li, my dad wants to join the army, but when he went to apply today, they said he was too old, and also, he had just recovered from his illness and was too thin. They said he couldn't do it. But my dad really wants to join the army."

Li Mingxuan almost choked when he heard this. What? Tang Shengkai, looking like that, still wants to join the army? His leg is crippled; he'll walk with a limp from now on. Which army would want him?

"Little girl, even if your father's leg heals, he'll still have some trouble walking. Joining the army might not be suitable for him..."

"My dad's leg is all better now, really better. He can walk just like us now!"

"How is that possible?"

As soon as Li Mingxuan finished speaking, he seemed to remember something. "Right, this little girl isn't ordinary. If she makes a move, she should be able to stand up without any problems, right?"

"Really, it's all better?"

Tang Yue just stared at him without saying a word.

Li Mingxuan understood that it was true.

"Little girl, could you..."

Seeing that the little girl was looking at him with her clear, big eyes, Li Mingxuan finally gave in.

"Actually, if your dad could really stand up, it wouldn't be difficult for him to join the army. But why does your dad insist on joining the army? It's actually quite dangerous now."

Tang Yue pouted, "Uncle Li, do you know how my dad got injured?"

Li Mingxuan shook his head, but Tang Yue didn't wait for his response and continued.

"My father went hunting in the mountains and encountered some spies from the Japanese government killing several Chinese hunters. My father joined the hunters and killed the spies."

Later I found out that one of those spies came from a powerful family. That family was very powerful, so they sent many spies to take revenge.

Uncle Li, our family has already encountered two groups of spies in the past few days. Our family can't keep going in and out together all the time. Now we're all afraid to separate.

After much thought, the only solution seemed to be for Dad to join the army. Surely a spy couldn't kill people inside the military.

Li Mingxuan was somewhat surprised; he hadn't expected it to be so dangerous.

"What will you do if your father goes to join the army? The whole family consists of children."

Tang Yue smiled and said, "So we're going with Dad. Dad's going to join the army, so we'll go to the production team near the army base to work. That way, the whole family will be close by, and it'll be safer."

Seeing that Tang Yue spoke logically and clearly, Li Mingxuan understood that this was a decision the family had made after careful consideration.

He lowered his eyes and thought for a moment, "Actually, it's not difficult. Come on, I'll take you there."

Tang Yue didn't understand what Li Mingxuan meant, but she still slid off the chair and followed behind him.

The two followed the corridor to the western ward area. Tang Yue looked up at Li Mingxuan, wondering why he had brought her here.

Pushing open the ward door, the patient whose leg Tang Yue had just treated was practicing walking with crutches in the room. Seeing the door open, he looked towards the entrance and his gaze met Li Mingxuan's.

Only the middle-aged man and the elegantly dressed woman remained in the room. Upon seeing Li Mingxuan, they quickly stood up from their seats, opened their mouths as if to say something, but found it difficult to utter a word.

The patient nodded to Li Mingxuan, "Dr. Li, thank you for your hard work today."

Li Mingxuan shook his head, then looked at him and said, "Can we talk alone?"

The patient didn't understand what Li Mingxuan meant, but he still turned to look at his parents. The two exchanged a glance, smiled at Li Mingxuan, and left the ward first.

"Thank you for today. Also, I want to apologize to you on behalf of my parents. They were too anxious at the time, so they said some inappropriate things."

"It's nothing, I understand how they feel. After all, it wouldn't be good for anyone to experience something like that."

"My name is Zeng Chen. Dr. Li, you can just call me by my name."

Li Mingxuan smiled. "I've heard of Major General Zeng's name before, but seeing him in person is truly an honor."

Zeng Chen smiled and said, "But our meeting wasn't pleasant."

Li Mingxuan smiled as well. "What does Dr. Li want to discuss with me privately?"

Li Mingxuan looked down at Tang Yue. Zeng Chen had already seen Tang Yue, but he didn't show any other emotion.

"Comrade Zeng, to be honest, this young girl deserves a lot of credit for ending today's farce."

Zeng Chen had also heard about what happened from his parents. They had just said they wanted to ask the girl's name so they could thank her.

"Hello, I am Zeng Chen."

Zeng Chen didn't mistreat Tang Yue just because she was young. Tang Yue had a pretty good impression of him. Major General? That seemed like quite a high-ranking position.
