Chapter 50 A Chance Encounter

50

The young men were quite loud, and half the people in the carriage were looking in their direction. They didn't seem uncomfortable at all and casually sat back down in their seats.

I don't know if they felt those people were unlucky, but the tickets they bought were a distance apart.

Those people kept their heads down, not looking up at anything. Tang Yue turned her little head around to see what was going on.

Prisoners? She had heard that prisoners in the mortal realm were always herded away in shackles by soldiers. But did such things still exist in this era?

Tang Shengkai turned Tang Yue's little head to the side, "Daddy, what happened to them?"

Tang Yue's voice was soft and gentle. Tang Shengkai shook his head; he wasn't quite sure either. But why did these people look like the people living in the cowsheds back in the commune?

Lin Cuicui didn't look in that direction and didn't know what was going on.

Tang Yue sat on one side with Tang Shengkai and Old Li, while Lin Cuicui sat opposite them with the three Tang brothers.

The people in the row behind Lin Cuicui knelt on their seats, their hands resting on the back of Lin Cuicui's seat, and looked at the people opposite them. "Pah! Let's see if you're still so arrogant? Aren't you supposed to be more powerful than us ordinary people?"

Now they're even more arrogant, going to live in a cowshed. Serves them right! A bunch of stinking intellectuals.

Tang Yue was surprised. This person shouldn't know those people, so why was he cursing them for no reason?

One of the people who were being scolded couldn't sit still. He clenched his fists and tried to stand up, but was pulled back by two people next to him. The others glanced at the person who was scolding them and then lowered their heads.

Seeing this, the one who was cursing got even more emboldened, "Hey, what's going on? Everyone come and see! You think you can't be talked about like that? What's wrong with me cursing you? If you don't behave, I'll beat you up. Try glaring at me again!"

Some people stood up and looked this way, while others remained seated. The young men in charge of these people glanced over, a sarcastic smirk playing on their lips, but said nothing.

Seeing that no one was stopping him, the person who was cursing became even more enthusiastic. He kept spewing insults, and many people in the carriage were watching the spectacle. Tang Shengkai and his family listened expressionlessly, and no one uttered a sound.

Through that person's curses, Tang Yue learned a lot. What kind of era is this?

She felt sorry for these people. The man finally finished cursing, turned around and sat down, and soon after, snoring could be heard from behind him.

Tang Yue asked Tang Shengkai to take a cloth bag out of the basket; inside were the books they had bought at the bookstore that day.

Despite being very busy lately, Tang Yue still managed to finish studying Tang Bei's first-grade textbooks. Right now, she's flipping through the second-grade textbook. The rest are simple; although the characters look incomplete and aren't very neatly written, they're not difficult to learn.

Tang Yue spent several days studying this thing called Pinyin. Even now, she sometimes can't quite remember it clearly. But she's managed to learn it, albeit barely.

This subject called math doesn't seem difficult now, and she's quite interested in it. Seeing Tang Yue studying so intently, the Tang brothers each picked up a first-grade textbook and started looking at it too. They would occasionally discuss it amongst themselves.

Occasionally, even a slightly louder voice would attract the attention of the people on the other side of the corridor, who would glance over discreetly a few times. There was no malice in their eyes, so Tang Yue didn't pay them any mind.

Soon it was time for dinner. Tang Yue's family ate quite late, after almost everyone on the bus had eaten, before they took the steamed buns they had bought in Shencheng out of their basket.

It was cold, and the train wasn't warm either, so the steamed buns were a bit hard. But there was hot water on the train, so I could manage to eat a bite of steamed bun with some hot water.

Tang Yue and her group had eaten halfway when she heard someone's stomach rumbling from the other end of the aisle. Only then did she realize that the young men hadn't brought any food for them at all.

This has become a form of punishment, hasn't it? Tang Yue didn't want to cause trouble for her parents, so she opened her mind in the carriage and saw that the man who was cursing was fast asleep, while the young people had finished eating and were taking a nap.

Tang Yue grabbed a few steamed buns from the table and swiftly moved to the other side of the aisle. The group of people were surprised to see a little girl come over and looked up in astonishment, but no one made a sound.

Tang Yue smiled at the group, stuffed the steamed buns into each person's hand, silently said "eat," and then darted back.

Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui couldn't do anything about Tang Yue, but Yueyue was doing a good deed. They had heard every word that person said, and if someone has the ability, that's their ability; how could that be wrong?

They didn't understand, but such things were common at that time. They were just ordinary people with no right to say anything; they could only listen.

The two knew that none of the people had eaten, so Yueyue brought them steamed buns, and they had no objections.

Tang Yue sat in Tang Shengkai's lap and started eating a steamed bun. She didn't look over there, because if someone else saw her, it would cause trouble.

Those people only glanced at Tang Yue's family a few times, and then made no further moves. Instead, they secretly hid the steamed buns in their sleeves and ate them discreetly.

It was the middle of the night, and the carriage was quiet; the lights were long gone. Almost everyone was asleep. Tang Yue's basket was behind Tang Yue and her companions' seats; they were leaning against the edge, where there were some extra seats.

The baskets were too big to fit on the luggage rack. Each basket was packed full. That evening, Tang Yue's family ate steamed buns. Although they tried to be discreet, someone still saw them.

It was a time when people were most drowsy, and two men, one tall and one short, quietly approached Tang Yue and the others. Their movements were so light that they made almost no sound.

When they reached the basket, one of them looked at the movement inside the carriage, while the other reached out to search for it.
