They boarded the train at 9:30, but this time they couldn't get seats on the side. They had to haggle with the other passengers for a while before they could get seats on the side. It wasn't that they didn't want to be in the middle, but they had too much stuff, and it was blocking the aisle.
They wouldn't feel at ease unless the item was placed to the side and they weren't sitting there. The theft on the train last time had left them traumatized.
After all that commotion, more than an hour had passed. They hadn't eaten dinner; the Tang brothers were exhausted from a day of shopping. They ate a simple meal of steamed buns and then sat down to doze off.
Lin Cuicui packed the food, and Tang Shengkai fetched hot water so that everyone could drink it after it cooled down.
Old Li had been on edge for the past few days, and coupled with poor sleep at night, he looked noticeably haggard. Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui took good care of him. However, without proper sleeping facilities, things weren't quite right.
Fortunately, this was the last train. They just had to get off the train again to reach their destination. They wouldn't have to go through all this trouble anymore. Now that they were safely on the train, Tang Shengkai and Lin Cuicui felt much more at ease.
After going through several places and changing trains, those spies should be unable to find them now, right?
Just as everyone had finished packing and started to doze off, Tang Yue thought of checking the entire train to eliminate any dangerous individuals.
Tang Yue's consciousness slowly enveloped the entire train. In the past few days, she had been able to freely choose the area her consciousness covered. Previously, she would cover large areas, even distant open spaces outside the train, which was very mentally taxing.
She's been spending a lot of time on the train these past few days, so she's been trying selective coverage and has already made some progress.
As Tang Yue looked through the carriages, she was surprised to find that the group of people who had gotten off the train with them that morning, the ones known as "stinking intellectuals," were also on the train, though they were four carriages away from them.
Tang Yue felt it was too far to go and help them. Besides, if something happened between them, they wouldn't be able to explain themselves.
Just as Tang Yue finished her check and was about to withdraw her consciousness, she heard a ticking sound. At first, Tang Yue didn't pay attention, but after listening carefully for a few breaths, she realized that the sound was unusual.
The sound seemed to follow a certain pattern. Intrigued, Tang Yue followed her intuition to find its source. The location she ultimately pinpointed left her quite embarrassed.
The sound was coming from the toilet. Of course, she didn't have the habit of peeping at people using the toilet. Could this be a normal human sound? But it didn't sound like it at all.
Tang Yue carefully listened to the person's breathing inside again. The person's breathing was extremely shallow, unlike the breathing rhythm during physiological needs. Tang Yue stopped worrying about it and went straight into the toilet.
Under the dim light, a man wearing a black overcoat and a round felt hat that covered most of his face was standing in the toilet. He was holding a black box-like object in one hand and pressing up and down on a handle on the black box with the other hand.
Tang Yue carefully observed the man's expression and sensed something was amiss. She didn't recognize the object, but she was certain the man wasn't playing around or having fun; it was clearly a method of transmitting a signal.
But how can that black box transmit signals?
Tang Yue didn't understand, but seeing that her parents both looked drowsy, she didn't know who to ask.
Tang Yue thought to herself, "Forget it, it has nothing to do with me anyway." She wanted to rest after running around all day.
Thinking about it, I withdrew my consciousness and closed my eyes.
In just a few breaths, Tang Yue suddenly opened her eyes; she was still worried. She also remembered who she should consult.
Seeing Tang Shengkai's head begin to nod, she gently nudged him, "Hmm?"
Tang Shengkai opened his eyes and saw his daughter looking at him. He rubbed his face and said, "Hmm, daughter, what's wrong? Do you want some water? Dad will get you some."
Tang Yue leaned close to Tang Shengkai's ear and whispered, "Dad, I noticed that the people who sat across from us this morning are also on this bus. I'll go say hello to them."
Tang Shengkai's sleepiness vanished as soon as he heard that his daughter wanted to run away. He dared not let her run away alone; it was too dangerous.
Looking at the carriage where the lights were already off, Tang Shengkai was still worried. "Honey, we're going to be sitting here for several days. Can you go tomorrow?"
Tang Yue looked at Tang Shengkai and said, "Dad, it's only when those people watching them fall asleep that things will be alright."
Tang Shengkai thought about it and agreed. He sat up straight and said, "Oh, let's go then. Dad will go with you."
As he spoke, he reached out to wake Lin Cuicui up so she could see the things.
Tang Yue quickly grabbed Tang Shengkai's arm. "Dad, it's not far. You don't need to come with me. You're too tall; you'll attract too much attention if you go."
"No, you can't go alone."
Tang Yue felt both warm and helpless. He knew that what happened last time had frightened his parents.
The little girl took her father's big hand and asked, "Daddy, do you believe me?"
Tang Shengkai looked into his daughter's eyes and finally sighed, "Daughter, you are my own daughter. This has nothing to do with whether I believe you or not, I..."
Tang Yue heard the ticking sound about to stop. She didn't have time to explain anything to Tang Shengkai. She quickly passed through Tang Shengkai and went into the corridor. Turning back to Tang Shengkai, she said, "Dad, believe me. You can protect yourself no matter what."
After speaking, she nimbly darted out. Tang Yue didn't go to find Lu Zhanheng and the others first. Instead, she went to the toilet door. She knew how to choose a spot; it was the very last toilet in the last carriage.
