Extra Chapter 23
Aunt Chang was the last to sit down, and she immediately stood up, saying, "I'll go get him!"
The others sat at the table waiting, when Aunt Chang said "Hello" and turned to look at Chang Yin in shock. Chang Yin got up, walked over, and took the phone. "Hello, this is Chang Yin."
Suddenly, Dongfang Xiao's voice came through the phone, "Wow, Chief Chang, so your name is Chang Yin. What a nice name, I'll remember it."
Chang Yin frowned. "Comrade Dongfang, is there something you need?"
Dongfang Xiao felt like her ears were pregnant from listening to Chang Yin's voice on the other end of the phone. She had been so focused on Chang Yin's face today that she had completely overlooked his wonderful voice.
After waiting a while without a reply, I said, "Comrade Dongfang, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up. Also, we're not close, so please don't call me again."
"I have something to do!" Just as Chang Yin was about to hang up the phone, Dongfang Xiao's urgent voice came through.
Chang Yin brought the microphone to her ear. "Chang Yin, I'm calling to let you know that I'm home safely."
With a "snap," Chang Yin hung up the phone.
Aunt Chang stood quietly to the side, her eyes gleaming with gossip.
Seeing the smile on Chang Ershen's lips, Chang Yin said helplessly, "Ershen, dinner is ready."
Although the people at the table couldn't hear what the person on the phone was saying very clearly, those with sharp ears could tell it was a woman.
Feng Guiping was no longer in a hurry for Chang Yin to get married. She had an idea in mind, but she was worried that her son wouldn't be able to fulfill it.
Aunt Chang wanted to ask who the person on the phone was, but the Chang family always maintained the rule of not talking during meals. So, Aunt Chang was feeling very uncomfortable.
After dinner, Chang Yin went to the study with Grandpa Chang and the others. Aunt Chang and Feng Guiping helped clear the dishes.
In the kitchen, Aunt Chang stood quietly beside Feng Guiping. "Sister-in-law, the person who just called Chang Yin was a girl. Oh dear, from what I heard, the young lady is very satisfied with Chang Yin."
"Sister-in-law, do you think we should ask Chang Yin? He's really getting on in years."
The image of Aunt Chang crying at the door was still vivid in Feng Guiping's mind. Feng Guiping knew she genuinely cared about Chang Yin. Feng Guiping sighed, "I'll ask Chang Yin when he comes out later. If he's willing, I'll go and propose marriage."
Aunt Chang nodded in agreement. However, based on her experience as a mother, Chang Yin didn't seem to like the girl on the phone. Otherwise, she wouldn't have hung up before the girl finished speaking.
When Chang Yin came out of his grandfather's study, Feng Guiping was making his bed in his room.
"Mom, I can do it myself."
Feng Guiping tidied up one corner of the bed, saying, "It's all done." She then sat down on a chair. Chang Yin knew his mother had something to say, so he sat upright on the bed.
He hadn't sat down and had a proper conversation with Feng Guiping like this in a long time. Chang Yin suddenly noticed that his mother's hair was now streaked with gray. In that instant, Chang Yin felt a lump in his throat.
As if remembering something, he wondered if he could let his mother and the others learn Qi cultivation too, even if it was just for physical fitness. He wanted to contact Xiaoyueyue right now.
Seeing her son staring at her without saying a word, Feng Guiping smiled at Chang Yin and asked, "What's wrong? Don't you recognize your mother?"
Chang Yin reached out and stroked her mother's hair. "Mom, you have gray hair."
Feng Guiping slapped his hand away, "Nonsense, don't you know how old your mother is? How could I not have gray hair?"
At this moment, Chang Yin felt very guilty. He had been willful and hadn't been by his mother's side for so many years. His mother was getting old.
"Mom, I'm sorry!"
Chang Yin choked up as he said this, and Feng Guiping couldn't help but burst into tears. She reached out and patted her son, "You silly child, why are you apologizing to your mother? I'm so proud to have a son like you!"
Chang Yin forced back his tears, took out a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to Feng Guiping. "Mom, don't cry." He wanted to add, "It hurts me to see you cry," but the "straightforward man" Chang Yin couldn't bring himself to say it.
Feng Guiping took the handkerchief, and upon seeing its material and pattern, she froze. "Did Yueyue give this to you?"
Often hidden...
He looked down and nodded. "Yeah, she gave me quite a lot. She said these things are consumables, and you have to throw them away when they get dirty. These weren't bought with money, so there's no need to feel like you're wasting them."
As he spoke, Chang Yin himself was unaware that the corners of his lips were slightly upturned, and even his voice carried a hint of pleasure.
Feng Guiping paused for a moment, then looked at him a few more times. Yes, she was sure this was still her son. He did smile when he mentioned Xiao Yueyue, and he was quite talkative now.
Feng Guiping tentatively asked, "The girl who called you tonight..."
Chang Yin's face immediately fell. "I don't know him, we're not familiar with each other! It's just a coincidence."
Feng Guiping was now certain. She asked, "Why did you give her our home phone number if you don't know her?"
Chang Yin felt it couldn't be explained in a few words; he found that Comrade Dongfang quite annoying. "It's just a misunderstanding."
Feng Guiping knew immediately that the girl had no chance. "Chang Yin, you're really not young anymore. If this continues, you'll be a bachelor forever. What are your plans?"
Chang Yin didn't seem to have thought about this question yet. He wanted to refuse as he used to, but when he saw the white hair on his mother's head, he couldn't bring himself to say no.
Feng Guiping sensed that her son seemed less resistant than before. She continued to probe, "Son, why don't you tell me what kind of person you're looking for? I'll ask around and see if there's anyone suitable."
Feng Guiping wasn't worried about Chang Yin not finding a wife. With his current position and family background, he could find someone willing to marry him whenever he wanted. However, his age was getting too old, which wasn't ideal. She also wanted to hold her grandchildren while she was still young.
Chang Yin began to consider what Feng Guiping had said. What kind of person does he like?
"Be smart, but it's okay to be a little absent-minded sometimes. Be cute, with big eyes and a pleasant, soft voice, the kind that's sweet and gentle. Be capable, able to solve problems on your own, and also able to use your skills to help others."
"You need to be skilled in combat, able to take on dozens of people at once. You also need to be patriotic and have a broad mind..."
Feng Guiping couldn't listen anymore. What else could she say? She knew perfectly well whose standards were being used to find them.
Chang Yin couldn't continue speaking because his heart suddenly clenched, as if he had suddenly realized something. His brows furrowed deeply. How could this be? He felt like he didn't recognize himself anymore.
How could he possibly fall for...?
Chang Yin closed his eyes briefly, while Feng Guiping watched her son's constantly changing expression without blinking. She found it amusing. It seemed her dim-witted son still hadn't grasped the situation. Was he only now realizing the seriousness of the problem?
She noticed it the last time he brought a little girl home. Her son had never been so gentle with anyone. Chang Yin stood up abruptly, pulled Feng Guiping up and pushed her outside, "Mom, it's getting late, you should go back to your room and rest. We can talk about it tomorrow."
Feng Guiping let Chang Yin push her out of the house, then went back inside with a smirk. Sigh, it might be another ten years or so before we see Chang Yin get married.
