Chapter 26 Rescuing the Bride

"Young Master Yu, what brings you here?" The guards in the dungeon hurriedly bowed respectfully when they saw Gong Ziyu and Jin Fan enter. Gong Ziyu expressionlessly took out a token from his pocket and handed it to them: "Young Master wants me to take these girls to the Conquest Palace for Gong Yuanzheng to test medicine on."

"You still have to test the medicine so late..." The guard looked puzzled. After all, this was the first time he had encountered a situation where someone had to be taken to test the medicine so late at night.

"Insolence!" Jin Fan shouted before the guard could finish speaking. "Whether it's early or late is none of your business!"

"Your subordinate wouldn't dare!" The guard trembled with fright and quickly bowed his head to admit his mistake. "But... Young Master only needs to send someone down to deliver a message. Why bother Young Master Yu with your presence?"

"Oh? You mean the young master has treated me like a servant?"

"Young Master Yu, please calm down! I deserve to die! Please forgive me!" The guard panicked. He knew he had said the wrong thing; offending the person before him was no laughing matter.

"Alright, Jin Chengwei, I'll go in first." After saying that, Gong Ziyu led Jin Fan inside. The ground was wet when they went down the stairs, but luckily his cloak wasn't made to drag on the ground.

Gong Ziyu walked forward, glancing sideways at his bride in the prison cell, but quickly looked away.

Stopping in his tracks, Gong Ziyu glanced around at the brides trapped in the cages and gently reassured them, "Don't be afraid, I'm here to save you."

"Young master, what exactly happened?" One of the brides, with tears in her eyes and a slightly sobbing voice, asked timidly.

“Among you, there is a bladeless assassin.” Gong Ziyu paused noticeably as he said this, secretly observing the expressions of the brides around him.

"What is Wufeng?" The first bride looked blank, not understanding. Before she could finish speaking, another bride chimed in, explaining, "You don't even know? Wufeng is an assassin organization that has dominated the martial arts world for over a decade. Anyone who dares to oppose them will face annihilation."

Many sects have already submitted to Wufeng, only the Palace Gate can rival them, which is why my father sent me here to choose a husband, saying that this is the only peaceful place Wufeng cannot contend with.

“That’s right. Wu Feng is cruel and ruthless. After Lord Zhi Ren learned that Wu Feng’s spies were among you, he decided to execute you all in order to protect the safety of the Gong family.”

As soon as Gong Ziyu finished speaking, the entire hall erupted in uproar. All the brides' faces changed drastically, filled with panic. To execute them all simply because one of them was a hidden assassin was utterly absurd!

"How could this happen!" Gong Ziyu saw that the bride in front of him was already crying, his eyes filled with panic and shock.

"Now is not the time to cry. Come with me and I will let you out."

“They just called you Young Master Yu. You are the young master of Yu Palace, the son of Zhi Ren. Your father wanted to harm us, but you want to save us. How kind of you are! I don’t believe it.” The bride in another cell suddenly broke the silence, her tone full of suspicion and distrust.

If Gong Ruanruan were here, she would definitely shout in her heart, "That scheming, love-obsessed jerk!"

"I am the young master of Yu Palace, not the young lord, so I am being gentle with the ladies. Whether you want to come with me or not is up to you." Gong Ziyu didn't care about anything else; he just didn't want to see these brides all lose their lives because of a Wufeng assassin.

It must be said that Gong Ziyu is very kind, but this kindness is not suitable for the palace. Being too ruthless is not good, nor is being too kind.

"I'll go with you, I want to go back to my father!" A bride walked out of the cell, followed by the remaining bride. No one wanted to stay there and quietly wait to die.

One of the brides walked out of the cell with graceful bearing, and was about to bow to Gong Ziyu to express her gratitude: "Thank you..." However, before she could finish speaking, the other bride interrupted her: "Thank you, Young Master Yu."

Gong Ziyu looked in the direction of the voice and saw that the speaker was the girl who had initially been crying. At this moment, her eyes were still brimming with tears. Looking at the pitiful woman before him, Gong Ziyu couldn't help but feel a surge of pity.

Gong Ziyu and Jin Fan carefully escorted the brides out of the dungeon. Along the way, Jin Fan led the way, skillfully guiding them away from the patrolling guards by virtue of his familiarity with the palace layout.

However, halfway through, Gong Ziyu suddenly noticed that one of the brides had fallen behind. His heart tightened, and without hesitation, he turned around and caught up with her.

Jin Fan, who was walking at the front, didn't immediately notice Gong Ziyu's departure. After a while, when he turned around, he was shocked to find that Gong Ziyu had vanished!

Upon seeing Gong Ziyu return with his entourage, Jin Fan, with his sharp eyes, noticed the mask hanging from the bride's waist, which was a gift from Madam Lan.

Just as he was about to go find him, he saw Gong Ziyu leading the straggling bride back to the group.

Jin Fan looked closely and realized that the mask hanging from the bride's waist was the one that Madam Lan had given to Gong Ziyu. He had always treasured this mask, so why had he given it to her so easily?
