Chapter 55 Sleep

The next day, the sun was already high in the sky. Gong Shangjiao waited and waited, but Yuanzheng's younger brother and Ruanruan did not come. He ordered Jin Fu to go and see what was going on. Not long after, Jin Fu hurriedly returned and told Gong Shangjiao that Young Master Zheng had not yet gotten up.

Upon hearing this news, Gong Shangjiao felt strange. At this time of day, his younger brother Yuanzheng would have been up long ago, and he hadn't seen Yuanzheng looking tired yesterday. Thinking of this, Gong Shangjiao stood up and decided to go and see for himself. The servants of the Zheng Palace were all afraid of Yuanzheng and probably wouldn't dare to approach him without permission, so as not to offend him.

Along the way, Gong Shangjiao thought that it might be because the weather was turning autumnal, and that Yuanzheng had kicked off his blankets while sleeping. But Yuanzheng was no longer a child, and shouldn't be kicking off his blankets now.

As they drew ever closer to the palace, Miyako's anxiety grew...

Conquering the Palace

Gong Yuanzheng and Gong Ruanruan were sleeping soundly, except that Ruanruan would occasionally twitch slightly, like a cat shaking its fur. It was probably due to the effects of the medicine, combined with that unusual drug, triggering a special period in her animalistic state.

The commotion didn't stop until dawn. There were no people living around Gong Yuanzheng's room, and it was even less likely that the servants would run to his door to knock, unless he/she was tired of living and wanted to die.

The cook was also puzzled early in the morning. Where was Gong Ruanruan, who was usually the most enthusiastic cook, today? But when she heard that Young Master Zheng was still asleep, she understood. Perhaps Young Master Zheng was also tired from working so hard every day and wanted to rest.

It's okay to sleep a little longer, thinking that the cook will put the prepared rice in the pot to keep it warm.

At this moment, Gong Shangjiao walked lightly to Gong Yuanzheng's door. He first politely extended his hand and knocked lightly on the door a few times, then asked in a low voice, "Brother Yuanzheng, are you awake?" His voice was gentle and warm, full of concern.

After waiting for a while without any movement coming from the room, Gong Shangjiao, who was worried about his younger brother, couldn't sit still any longer. He pushed open the door and strode in. As soon as he passed the screen, what he saw made him speechless—his younger brother, Yuanzheng, was lying quietly on the bed with his eyes closed. A white-haired girl was lying quietly on his chest. Her hair was like the first snow of winter, pure white, crystal clear, pure and dazzling, shimmering with a silvery luster in the morning light.

Her eyes were gently closed, her long eyelashes casting two soft shadows on her eyelids, like a work of art meticulously painted by nature. Her breathing was steady and even, but her brow was slightly furrowed, as if she were encountering some trouble in her dream. The corners of her mouth twitched occasionally, as if silently telling the story of what was happening in her dream.

Miyazaki: "!!!!!!!"

Even someone as usually calm and composed as him couldn't help but crack a smile at this moment, his eyes widening in astonishment. However, when his gaze fell upon the girl's bare, smooth shoulders, he abruptly turned away as if electrocuted, unable to bear looking at her any longer. After regaining his composure, Gong Shangjiao began to think, and ultimately decided to turn and leave.

After closing the door, Gong Shangjiao turned to face Jin Fu and solemnly instructed, "You stay here and guard this place. Don't let anyone in. When Yuanzheng wakes up, tell him to go to his study."

Jin Fu respectfully nodded and replied, "Yes," then stood guard at the door.

Gong Shangjiao took a deep breath and walked slowly toward Gong Yuanzheng's study with slightly heavy steps. After entering the study, he raised his hand and gently picked up a book on the table, casually flipped through a few pages, then turned the cover and his eyes fell on the title of the book - "A Collection of Strange Tales".

Looking at the book title, Gong Shangjiao felt a surge of curiosity. He found it hard to believe that his intelligent, meticulous younger brother, Yuanzheng, would be interested in this kind of book. After all, Yuanzheng seemed more interested in researching and concocting poisons than reading these strange and fantastical stories.

Just as Gong Shangjiao was lost in thought, he suddenly remembered the scene he had just witnessed. Recalling the situation, he realized that he hadn't noticed many details. Thinking back carefully now, the woman's hair seemed to be as white as snow, and inside the room, he neither heard anything nor saw a soft figure.

A bold guess surfaced in his mind, causing Gong Shangjiao's narrow eyes to fixate intently on the book in his hands. The more he thought about it, the more likely the guess seemed, but further confirmation was still needed...

Nearly an hour later, Gong Yuanzheng slowly opened his eyes. When he felt the heavy pressure on his body, he looked down and saw that Gong Ruanruan's little head was gently resting on his body, already sound asleep.

From his perspective at this moment, one could glimpse something indescribable—those once fair and snow-white skins were now covered with crisscrossing blue and purple marks, which pained Gong Yuanzheng greatly.

Ever since his brother gave him that mysterious book, he had been diligently studying its secrets. Last night, he even tried to apply what he had learned, but recalling the events of the previous night, Gong Yuanzheng couldn't help but blush. However, in an instant, he remembered that both of them had lost their minds due to the Chinese medicine, and it wasn't their intention.

Actually, he was willing, blushing.

At this moment, Gong Yuanzheng cursed inwardly, "Mingwu Ji is truly cunning! She knows perfectly well that Baicao Cui cannot harm us, yet she still resorts to such a despicable trick!"

Myo-hime: I'm truly innocent!!!

With a tender heart, Gong Yuanzheng carefully moved Gong Ruanruan away from his chest, afraid of waking her. He needed to make an ointment to remove the bruises. What had happened had actually made Gong Yuanzheng very flustered.

His first thought was to tell his brother... but in an instant, he shook his head violently, banishing the idea from his mind. No! He absolutely couldn't let his brother know!

Just then, a soft groan reached Gong Yuanzheng's ears: "It hurts~" It turned out that Gong Ruanruan was unconsciously muttering.

Gong Yuanzheng dressed and tiptoed out of the door. As soon as he came out, he saw Jin Fu standing at his door like a guardian deity, which startled him.

"Jin Fu, what are you doing here? Brother, did you come over?" Gong Yuanzheng saw Jin Fu and instinctively knew his brother had arrived; the truth could no longer be hidden. (>_<~) (>_<~)
