Chapter 84 Short Story 35

I took a deep breath and said, "Okay, I'll go."

I hung up the phone and walked to the dressing table. The girl in the mirror had beautiful features, yet still retained a touch of childishness. I gently stroked the sandalwood bracelet on my wrist. Grandma, in this life, I will definitely live a wonderful one.

The next evening, I arrived at the agreed-upon club on time. The moment I pushed open the door to the private room, I froze.

Besides Gu Chengze, Lu Jingxing was also there.

"Miss Su, please have a seat." Gu Chengze stood up, dressed in a well-tailored black suit, exuding an air of nobility in every gesture.

I suppressed my surprise and sat down gracefully. Lu Jingxing sat next to Gu Chengze, still with a cool and aloof demeanor, but his gaze towards me held a hint of inquiry.

"I've heard that Miss Su is quite knowledgeable about metaphysics?" Gu Chengze asked bluntly.

I was startled, but I didn't show it on my face. "Mr. Gu is joking. I only know a little bit about it."

"Is that so?" Gu Chengze chuckled lightly. "Then, Miss Su, what is your explanation for this talisman?"

He pulled a yellow talisman from his suit pocket; it was the one Lu Jingxing had given me. Only then did I realize that the talisman had disappeared sometime earlier.

"This talisman..." I looked at Lu Jingxing, but he avoided my gaze.

"This was given to me by Dr. Lu," I said truthfully.

Gu Chengze raised an eyebrow at Lu Jingxing, "Jingxing, when did you start drawing talismans?"

Lu Jingxing said casually, "Just a quick sketch."

"Just casually?" Gu Chengze laughed. "A talisman that can make vengeful ghosts retreat, you're saying you just drew it casually?"

My heart trembled. A vengeful ghost? Had Gu Chengze encountered something unclean?

"Mr. Gu..." I was about to speak when the lights in the private room suddenly flickered. A gust of cold wind blew by, and the temperature plummeted.

"Here they come." Lu Jingxing stood up, his sharp gaze fixed on the doorway.

I instinctively reached for the sandalwood bracelet on my wrist, only to find it was slightly warm. At the same time, a blurry figure appeared in the doorway.

It was a woman in a red dress, her long hair covering her face, exuding a chilling aura. She floated in without her feet touching the ground.

"Gu Chengze..." the female ghost cried out in a shrill voice, "Give me back my life..."

My body stiffened, and I couldn't move. This was the first time in my life, past and present, that I had ever seen a real ghost.

"Don't be afraid." Lu Jingxing had appeared beside me at some point. "I'm here."

As soon as he finished speaking, the female ghost suddenly screamed and lunged at us. I instinctively closed my eyes, but then I heard a loud "bang".

Opening his eyes, he saw that Lu Jingxing had somehow acquired a peach wood sword, the tip of which was pointing directly at the female ghost. The female ghost was trapped by a golden light and could not move.

"Dust to dust, ashes to ashes," Lu Jingxing murmured. "Your grudges shouldn't involve the innocent."

The female ghost let out a piercing scream, and her figure gradually disappeared. The temperature in the private room returned to normal, and the lights stopped flickering.

I slumped into the chair, my back soaked with cold sweat. It all felt like a dream.

"It seems Miss Su is indeed completely ignorant of metaphysics," Gu Chengze's voice came, tinged with a hint of mockery.

I looked up at him, only to find his gaze fixed on my wrist. There, the sandalwood bracelet was emitting a faint glow.

"This bracelet..." Gu Chengze narrowed his eyes, "Where did it come from?"

I instinctively clutched the bracelet, thinking, "This was left to me by my grandmother."

"Really?" Gu Chengze chuckled. "Then do you know what this bracelet is made of?"

I shook my head.

"A thousand-year-old piece of wood struck by lightning," Lu Jingxing suddenly said. "It can ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune; it's a rare treasure."

I stared in shock at the bracelet on my wrist. No wonder the female ghost hadn't dared to approach me earlier; it was because of this.

"Miss Su." Gu Chengze stood up. "I have a suggestion."

I watched him warily.

"Since you have this bracelet, why not join us?" he said with a smile. "Shengshi Entertainment is currently preparing a variety show about metaphysics, and we need someone like you."

I was stunned. A variety show about metaphysics? This show didn't exist in my previous life. Could it be that because of my rebirth, some things have begun to change?

"I..." I was about to answer when my phone suddenly rang. It was Sister Yang.

"Wanwan, something's happened! Lin Yue revealed on Weibo that you stole her role through underhanded tactics!"

I gripped my phone tightly, a cold smile playing on my lips. Lin Yue, you really couldn't hold back anymore.

"Mr. Gu, I agree." I stood up. "However, before that, I need to take care of some personal matters."

Gu Chengze raised an eyebrow. "Need any help?"

"No need." I glanced at the sandalwood bracelet on my wrist. "This time, I'll handle it myself."

As I left the club, I opened Weibo. Sure enough, #SuWanUnspokenRules# was trending. Lin Yue posted a long article, tearfully accusing me of stealing her role and implying that I had an improper relationship with the director.

The comments section has exploded; my Weibo is flooded with insults.

I sneered and edited a Weibo post:

"The innocent will clear themselves. Tomorrow morning at 10 AM, I will go live on Weibo to give everyone an explanation."

After posting on Weibo, I dialed a number.

"Hello, is this Detective Zhang? I need you to investigate someone for me..."

After hanging up the phone, I looked up at the night sky. The countless stars seemed to be foreshadowing something.

In this life, I will let everyone know that I, Su Wan, am not a pushover to be manipulated!
